It seems like his mechanics are regressing to me. Overall I remain hopeful that he reduces the bad and keeps improving the good.

Yea I agree...I hope he gets good help in the off season.

I think the game is just too fast for him right now.
He's doing his best to prepare for the next team up and just doesn't have time to think about his new mechanics.
When the bullets start flying, he reverts back to being his old self.
The opposing defensive coordinators have film on him now and are making things harder on him.
I predict he does a lot better after the bye week when he has some time to get back to basics.

I was at the game and before any of the turnovers there were these Dolphins fans behind me trashing Bortles, one of which kept chanting "Pick six baby!" over and over. It was infuriating, and I really hoped Blake would have a solid game to shut them up. But then the pick-six happened. Twice. It was rather embarrassing.
I have to say you could feel the energy in the crowd when our defense was playing so well. But those interceptions just killed it so badly. At one point I was even thinking to myself if they'd bring in Henne (not that I was calling for him) if Bortles threw another pick. It was just a bit depressing.
Still, I love the kid to death and I want so badly for him to succeed and learn from his mistakes. Those two int's today were bad throws and on him this time; he really, really needs to learn from those. If he does, then we win this game in the future.

That's tough man. I wish he would be a little more like Gabbert in a sense that if the play is not there, just tuck and run or fall into a fetal position and live to play another snap.

It's just funny to me that everyone wants the glory but don't want to take the lumps that accompany it.

LOL, really?
Who has been saying anything like that?
It's funny that some are so hyper sensitive to a discussion that they create ghost critics to bash...

For instance, there was a sure TD that BB5 overthrew in the 1st quarter... That one pass probably would have changed the entire game.
But of course, if we were to critique that bad pass, we're all a bunch of jerks for bashing the rookie QB and calling him a bust right?
Or maybe, we should be disappointed that he missed that open receiver. Seriously, little plays like that change the entire complexion of the entire game.

Quote:This is my thoughts on Blake Bortles this season as our starting QB. He is trying to do too much instead of taking what the offense is giving to him and it's stunting his growth. Some of this got to be on fisch because i see other team's elite offenses throughout the league and they scheme their players open but it's not the case on this team. Although the INT's hurt but you're in denial as a fan if a person don't see in every game he doesn't make plays that most QB's in this league can't make under the same circumstances. His pocket presences is on the best i have ever seen from a QB in addition to his ability to turn a negative play to a positive one. If you look back on gabbert as a QB and besides naming the obvious flaw into his game as a former starting qb but his biggest downfall is that he had games where he threw for under 100 yds throughout a game and didn't get his team to mid field until the second half. Bortles rarely have 3 and out while being the qb and is constantly moving the ball down the field so that's encouraging to me. We're the same fans complaining about his performance but we asked for this so lets suffer through this with him and hopefully he figures this out for the betterment of his career. He HAS to do too much, but good post, I agree.
What else do we have, seriously? A converted Skinny RB in his first year. Very little Tight end help, and who is our STAR receiver? That would be Robinson, who is trying to get on the same page as Bortles. Even at that how many times did Bortles receivers get behind the DB? Never. Shorts has regressed, we don't have the speed, the game planning sucks.
Panic over the FO and Coaching, but Bortles is just out there slinging it like a young Favre, it will slow down for him, and hopefully we can give him some weapons.
Right now it's like a young Audie Murphy guiding young French Troops into battle, it will be a mess until young Blake gets some weapons and experience. The mess at Left tackle, wasting the number one pick on Jokel, is one of many issues exacerbating Bortles progress. But At least He isn't overthrowing everyone or curling up into a fetal position. The kid has an accurate arm and is learning what he can get away with.
A small minority on this board is a trip, expecting instant top 10 quarterbacking from a rooke surrounded by rookies. It aint gonna happen this year, but at least it's not JDR and 2 yards and a cloud of dust and a loss. That was a hopeless feeling, this is going to be good, have some faith.

Well I know I've been highly critical. But it's because everyone keeps comparing Borltes to Manning or Farve or whatever legendary QB. But all I see is points going to the wrong team.

Just because BB5 is a rookie doesn't excuse the fact that he misses open receivers at times.
Just because I critique is inaccuracy doesn't mean I think he's a bust.
That makes sense to everyone, right?

Yes that's what we need. Him to be more like Gabbert. Crawl up in that fetal position, and take the sack. Cause that worked out great for us. #1 sign that you don't know much about football: Saying that anybody should do anything more like Blaine Gabbert.

Again, he's not inaccurate. He has an interception problem, but just how accurate do you want him to be? Complain about the Int's. Complain about the missed reads. But accuracy?

I don't see anyone comparing BB5 to HOF players. What I see are the crazies trying to defend BB5 by showing how some HOF QBs started poorly.
But it's a stupid defense. At the end of the day, we have to watch BB5 and see if he's getting better. So far, he's been up and down.
But if someone was to argue that he's not getting better, I don't know what I would say to defend BB5 to prove that he has progresed.
What I've seen the last 2 games is a QB that is still working on getting better. But I would be lying if I said that I see any clear progression of his talent.

The fact that these guys went on to have hall of fame careers doesn't change their humble beginnings.
I'm not saying Bortles is destined for the hall of fame, but to think he should be written off at this point in his career is being ignorant of history.

No, dude... He has problems with accuracy. To say he doesn't means either you are not watching the games or you are not wanting to see the facts.
I can recall 2 key throws where he was innaccurate. The throw in the 1st Quarter that to a wide open receiver in the end zone was a clear miss by the QB. The second was in the 3rd quarter, on a 3rd down play where he had a wide open receiver in the flat and he pretty much threw it into the grass...
He has issues with accuracy. It doesn't mean he can't fix it, but to say he doesn't is to be a blind homer to his issues. The coaches better recognize his issues and work on fixing them.
We, as fans, can continue to cheer him on. But to ignore some of his weaknesses is just not something I am able to do.

If you could rewind the clock, would you rather bortles take a sack or throw the pick six?
