Any chance that second pick was on shorts?  There was a miscommunication and it wasn't necessarily BB bad.

Quote:Remember guys:  Blaine Gabbert threw 11 ints in 15 games; Bortles already has 12 in 5 games.

Remember guys:  Blaine Gabbert threw 1662 yards in 10 games.  Bortles already has 1384 in 5 games.

And it took gabbert forever just to break 300 yds passing
Quote:I still want to know when 63% became bad accuracy for a rookie QB.  And for once we're not saying "not counting drops" like we did with Gabbs.  I mean we're still having drops, but now we're not counting them in favor of our QB.  Even when they do hit them in their hands.

We need a veteran WR out there.  It'd be nice if we could trade Shorts and maybe a 6th for a good veteran WR.  I mean I like shorts, don't get me wrong.  But we need the veteran presence on the field for our Rookie QB.

Give me a break the best QB's suffer from drops. Bortles had 4 drops. Those pick 6's though...
Quote:So based on that list of QBs, we have a small and extremely unlikely chance BB turns out to be a franchise QB, considering there have been literally hundreds of QBs who turned out the opposite.

Damn.

That's not how probability works.

Gabbert also curled up in the fetal position when a pass rush was coming. What's your point?

Learn to READ. Nowhere did I say "BORTLES IS SUFFERING FROM DROPS!  HIS ACC WOULD BE BETTER IF HE WEREN"T!"

In fact I said the [BAD WORD REMOVED] opposite.
Quote:It does when people are complaining about his accuracy.

People focus only on the negative here.  "HERP DERP HE THREW TWO PICK SIXES!  TOTAL BUST!"  He made two terrible and costly mistakes.  It happens.

Eli Manning threw 3 Pick Sixes in a game against the Vikings.  Two of them thrown back to back.  The same year he won the Super Bowl.  They're terrible mistakes, but they happen.

Too many people are willing to write Bortles off because he's made a lot of mistakes.  Better for him to get them out of the way this year, than next.  The interceptions don't bother me.  If he's still throwing them at the same pace next year, then they will bother me.  This year I expect them.  Especially with the group of players we have.

You're preachin' to the choir, my friend.

But I'm totally with you.

Don't get me wrong...  Dude, those picks killed me!!!!!

But with that said, we drove the ball down the field.  BB5, the WRs, and Shoelace destroyed Miami in the 1st half  We looked great!!!

We're still a work in progress.  And it hurt really bad once I realized that the game was over.  But it doesn't change the fact that we pretty much curb stomped the Dolphins.

We just aren't quite there yet.  But we will be, soon
I'm not going to defend BB's 2 picks and fumble, but a rookie qb needs help.  In general our receivers have trouble getting separation and if it's not a perfect pass they can't catch it.  We could use a guy like Vincent Jackson.

No reason to compare any QB to BB5.

This team is practically complete.

We need a few more games...  But we're there.

Our D is SB caliber.  Babich has totally changed my mind on him.

Fish is just a couple more games from me actually spelling his name right.

We just need BB5 to figure it out.  Once he does, we're the 49'ers of the AFC

You don't throw many picks from the fetal
Quote:The worst two things to happen to rookie quarterback expectations were Cam Newton and Ben Roethlisburger.

Yup.

Cam Newton

Big Ben

Andrew Luck

Joe Flacco

Matt Ryan

Russell Wilson

Andy Dalton

,,and probably some more I can't think of right now.

Granted, about half of those guys had much more talented teams around them. But, they looked much better their rookie seasons.

The good news is that there has been some very good QBS that had bad rookie seasons (Manning of course).
Quote:Terry Bradshaw threw 24 picks to 6 touchdowns his rookie (worse than Blakes 2:1 ratio) and had four games where he threw 4 picks that same season, Jim Zorn threw 27 picks to 12 touchdowns his rookie year and 45% completion, Troy Aikman threw 18 picks to 9 touchdowns his rookie year, Joe Namath threw 16 picks to 4 touchdowns. There are other who had more interceptions but a found a few who had the qualifier of 2:1 ratio. Nonetheless this is nothing new. Just have some patience. I may not click until midway next year or year three but eventually it will. We hear this stuff every year. Some rookie plays like trash and he's a bust then 3 year later he's tops in the league. Can we at least agree that it is too early to give up on the guy right now after game 4?

Cool this new. A Terry Bradshaw comparison...

Or if your passes are constantly in the dirt.
One of the problems is that they don't throw over the middle. The DBs on the outside know the route is staying outside the numbers. They don't have to cover the inside and can wait to jump the outside routes.

Quote:Bridgewater has been awful
What has Bortles been then?
Quote:The good news is that there has been some very good QBS that had bad rookie seasons (Manning of course).

Why is that good news? What does that even matter? This "statistic" gets thrown around so much but means so little. It's like saying "Well someone once won the lotto, so I still have hope I will win one day too."

Good luck with that.

By the way, Manning set five rookie records including touchdown passes his rookie year, and did not have a 1:2 td:int ratio.

"Bortles became the first quarterback since New York's Geno Smith last year to have two picks returned for TDs in the same game. Smith did it against Cincinnati, also in Week 8." http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=400554267

The problem isn't just a bad read, but the fact that he's still throwing wounded-duck balls on the bad read.

Better than Bridgewater.

Bridgewater has two TD passes this year.
