Quote:Johnny Football will join a long list of great college QBs who's game doesn't translate to the NFL.  He'll be doing SEC Network games with Tebow in 3 years.

That would be an odd couple
Quote:You gonna cite that tweet you just ripped off or nah?

No, because it was clearly made by my twitter account.

It's almost as if the NFL scripted this
Which of the 2 will have the longer career?

Question of the day. I'll take Manziel. He'll have a couple years because Hoyer sucks

I think Sam has shown enough to be a journeyman once the stigma dies down but I really feel Manziel will flounder out in a couple of years.

I think Sam sticks on the roster for a while (8 tacks, 3 sacks) he's producing but Johhny will probably have the longer career barring injury.

Browns don't have much of a choice since Hoyer obviously isn't the solution. Johnny will be there for a couple of years. Still not completely sold on Sam, but he's done a pretty decent job so far

Quote:Except Bortles against 1s basically matched Manziel stat line for 2 of his pre-season game stats combined...
You're right. A number 3 pick is allowed time to.develope, a " red shirt " year if you will... but Manziel is bad because he had a mediocre second preseason game.

Gotcha.

probably so I just can't see Johnny staying healthy.

????

Bortles in game 3  had more yards//higher accuracy//TDS than any 2 of Manziels preseason games combined (ie games 1+3 or game 2+3)...

How do you not follow that?

ETA: Do you really think a 60 yard game by Bortles wouldn't come under scrutiny under this board?

what the hell is "develope"?

Manziel is bad for a multitude of reasons at this point. Like OP said though they're both rookies but our rookie just happens to be a lot better thus far

How do I not follow that? Because its PRESEASON.

Why is Johnny not given the same.opportunity as Bortles? Just wondering. Im as big of a Bortles fan as the next guy, but why is Manziel not given time to develop?

I was never arguing that. Bortles was taken 3rd overall, over Manziel who was 20 something, I believe. Bortles should be better.

Both have played 3 games what added opportunity do you require?

For the sake of the argument you can pick any 2 of Manziel games to compare to Bortles game 3. That gives Manziel a better opportunity than Bortles.

There is already a Bortles Concern thread...Once again do you really think there wouldn't be whining if Bortles had a 60 yard game?
Bortles is better.

There hasn't really been a debate about this since the two players took the field in the NFL the first time. They have very different trajectories, and that's not going to change.

Manziel is pretty much what people were concerned he was before the draft.

That's just the price you pay for being Johnny football and having the media circus follow you. Same situation as Tebow.
QBs either react to the immediate threat (the rush like Manziel does) or look beyond the immediate threat trusting the receivers to run the intended route and throw to a spot like Blake does.  That is the difference between the two at this point.

What added opportunity? How about a regular season game?

Again, I know how good Bortles is, I would MUCH rather have Bortles, but why is Manziel not given the same opportunity to grow?

Should they get rid of Manziel? He made plays his first preseason game, why is it different now?
Both QB's played a pre-season game in Detroit.   The difference in the media coverage for the two QB's was equivalent to the difference between day and night.    Bortles was hardly even mentioned in the news media that covers the Lions,  leading up to the game.   Manziel was getting as much coverage as the Lions key players and coaches,   which is almost unheard of for an opposing player.

Yet,  when the dust settled when pre-season football actually was played,  Blake Bortles looked like the prototype QB prospect that teams try to trade up for.  Johnny Manziel looked the part of someone who was in a reality TV football game.   There's absolutely no comparison  in terms of the two QB's.     If Bortles stays on his current track,  the Jaguars are in tremendous shape at the QB position for the next 15 years.   Maybe even longer.   Keeping him healthy and from noticeably regressing because of a problematic Offensive Line situation makes a great amount of sense.

While Bortles will likely prove to be the best QB from this draft crop,  a comparison with Teddy Bridgewater and/ or Derek Carr ( who also played against the Lions )  would seem to be much more fitting than one with Manziel.
