Quote:He ran away from the Baltimore secondary last year, for some reason, fans believe a guy has to run a 4.2 to be considered fast. There's nothing wrong with a 6'0 231 LB RB that runs a 4.5, that's actually pretty impressive. If Toby Gerhart was in this draft, he'd ranked near the top of the list as far as RB's are concerned, as his game compares to Carlos Hyde and Jeremy Hill.
What about Terrence West?
Quote:He looks really... slow
You haven't watched a lot of Vikings games, he's faster than what most people expect, he gets through the hole fast and has decent long speed for his size.
Quote:What about Terrence West?
like West, his game actually compares to Toby's as well, big bruising backs that can bang between the tackles are in high demand. At his introductory press conference in Cleveland, Kyle Shannahan said he'd rather have a guy that can consistently get 3 to 4 yards per carry, than a guy that can hit a home run; I tend to agree with that. Guys like Eddie Lacy, Alfred Morris, Marshawn Lynch etc.. wear defenses down over the course of 4 quarters, if he can pass protect and catch the ball out of the backfield (Toby can) that's a bonus.

I would agree for most of that. However I'd still take Fred over just about any RB, past or present.

Haha of course, guys like Fred Taylor and Adrian Peterson are rare, size, speed, vision, power, quickness, truly the entire package.
Yeah, really going out on a limb there.
Quote:He'll regret saying that after running behind our line.
MJD ran just fine behind the line. I simply don't think Gerhart has the talent to dominate any team. But he could be productive when we're down 3 touchdowns, I am sure the opposing team will play against run at the time.

Durability is part of the package, and Fred Taylor was not that.
He had just about everything else though. I miss watching him run.
Quote:Hey Toby, I really hope so...
But I'd rather you just shut yer yap and let the play on the field do the talking. So tired of hearing players in all sports talk a good game and the results fail to live up to the talk. Big talk is just talk, unless....yer backing it up.
Okay, I keep getting annoyed by fans who react with stop talking and just play or go practice, etc. This professional sports, and the NFL. These players are
expected to do interviews and be available to the media. Heck, during the season, if they are not available they pay fines. Reporters always ask stupid/silly questions like "How do you think you will do?" and such.
It is hard to not answer them, or not say anything important. Then fans get mad if you say "I just want to do my part." because it means they are not a leader. Or fans get mad when they say "I want to be really good and think I can be." because of potential false hope.
Guy said he could be dominant. That's it. Move on and forget it because it is all just noise/propaganda like what WWE does to advertise their project.

Please don't inject logic into this. Clearly Gerhart spoke these words without solicitation. Otherwise there'd be no reason for manufactured outrage. You take that away from some on this board and you're inviting chaos.
I think using the word dominant is a bold statement. Him saying it so early may cause some concern with some fans. However, I am assuming that he is 100% all in with his mindset and being a jaguar/part of this team. He believes in Gus & Dave. He knows that the OLine needs work. Everybody is not Barry Sanders. Barry was the only back to produce with or without an Oline consistently every yr. Gerhart has faith in the organization that they will definitely fix the Oline. He has faith that he can produce by taking care of his RB duties. He was not only displaying confidence in himself but also in Dave & Gus. The draft will determine how this plays out. Dave has to make this happen and fix our Oline. Get us a center and guard so my man Gerhart can back his words up....................

I don't agree. See his career stats. He played in 13 games or more in 8 of his years as a RB. Most RBs are on their way out by age 28. I don't count the New England years because he was playing on borrowed time (like Emmit with Arizona)

Well he did average a staggering 8 yards per carry last year.
Toby is a confident guy and I'm sure he'll stick to his word.
Toby is an above average running back in the NFL. Not even close to a scrub. Hes not a pro bowler, but hes a decent starter.

How does anyone know what exactly Gerhart is? He's got enough chance to the pro bowl as anyone at this point. The guy sat behind arguably the best rb in the last 30 years. Who knows what he really has, but apparently its something special for Dave and Gus to not fool around and go after him on day 1 of free agency..

He missed quite a bit of time early on but managed to pick it up later on in his career, which is around the same time he changed his style up.
I'm not going to call Fred "fragile" but he wasn't exactly Mr. Durable.

We really don't know what he is
Quote:I think folks are reading too much into the comment regardless of how or what he said.
Personally, I'd prefer to have a guy showing some level of confidence. There's nothing wrong with having some swagger.
Absolutely. But while we're being picky about what exactly he did and didn't say with TMD, I think it's only reasonable to be picky and *right*.
