I am not the biggest Garoppolo fan. But last season Eastern Illinois played two FBS teams, San Diego State and Northern Illinois. Each made a bowl game. His team won at SDSU 40-19 and he had 360 yards passing, 3 TDs and 0 INTs. Against Northern Illinois, they lost by 4 but he had 450 yards passing, 6 TDs and 2 INTs. So in two games against solid FBS opponents, he had over 800 yards passing, 9 TDs and 2 INTs.

I wouldn't at all. My issue with the Romo comparison with Garoppolo is that the Tony Romo who came out of college is not the Tony Romo who plays a good game, even if he has crunch-time issues, today. Romo sat on the bench for almost three years. I don't know that Garoppolo will have to wait until his fourth season to be up to starting, but I'd be shocked if he were ready to lead a team this year, even surprised if he were ready at the onset of next. If the Jags think he's by far and away the best QB in this class, then take him. I wouldn't be unhappy with the pick at all, and I think we could do a lot worse as a developmental guy. I'm just not sure I want to see this team sentenced to two more years of Henne because we spent a high pick on a QB from a low level of competition.
Garoppolo would get at least a year if the Jags draft him. They're not going to rush him or any rookie QB in.

If that were to be the case, id really hope they would look for another veteran QB somewhere.. A full year with Henne at the helm isn't going to go over very well..

Hes the starter going into camp. You really dont think a rookie could beat him out? Its not like hes any good... I mean it depends what round the rookie is drafted in but I bet anyone within the first 3 round can beat Henne in a competition.

When the rush is on he squats down in the pocket and drops his eyes just like Blaine has always done. Its really sad to see the Jags are interested in him.

Let's be honest Shack, for his entire career, all the gametape we have of him,
he pretty much played against junior college level players. That's just the truth brother.
Honestly though, the people I feel most bad for when talking about guys like Garapolo, are the really-really talented guys who didn't have the gaudy numbers because they played the best. Guys like McCarron, Shaw, Murray, Boyd.
Hell, Tajh Boyd put up over 500 all purpose yards in that last bowl game, outgaining the entire Ohio State team by 78-yards himself! Just think of what guys like that could have and would have done in the woooooeful Ohio Valley Conference. I mean honestly, these guys would have been superstars.
I truly shudder to imagine a Winston or a Manziel playing in the OVC, against the likes of Austin Peay Governors week in and week out. Surely you have to agree on some level Shack.
IMO, when looking at the full-body of his work, Jimmy's only truly stellar season was his senior year, and even then he completed
only 66 percent of his throws. Good numbers no doubt, but if I were looking at all these draftable QBs equally, I can't possibly fathom how the quarterback who played THE worst level of competition of any QB prospect doesn't have the highest everything statistically?...
FYI, Manziel boasted a 69.9% in the hardest conference in the nation, and Bridgewater had a 71.1 completion percentage. Both rank in the top 4 of all QBs in Division-1.

I can accept the Bortles to Gabbert comparison. Not Gabbert to Jimmy. I'm not sure if Jimmy is the amswer, but I'll bet that he would be a great deal better than Gabs.

The comparison stems from a similar career arc ("out-of-nowhere" riser during their senior year) and relative inexperience. I think it's partly valid, in that Bortles could easily be ruined just like Gabbert was if he's forced onto the field two games in with no training camp to speak of, but Bortles has the ability to be so much better if he spends a year on the bench.

We've already been over how much of a misnomer the late riser junk is ad nauseum though. I also don't buy the rushed into action excuse, either. Blaine could have been given half a decade to sit and learn and would have been the exact same IMO. Just watching Bortles for even one cutup and it's painfully obvious they are polar opposites when it comes to pocket manipulation and facing a pass rush. If anything that is Bortles' best trait.

If we draft a QB in the first 3 rounds, Henne does not play a full season.
Also can we stop with this 'throw to the wolves nonsense. It gives credence to the idea that we 'broke' Gabbert by throwing him into the fire.
