To the optimists in this thread (not saying that's a bad thing), how long do you think it'll take for the OL to gel?
Keep in mind, none of the starters from last year's opening day will be the same.
Joeckel is moving to LT, and has less than half a year's experience.
Pasztor was on the bench to start the year last year, now he is at RT.
Beadles is brand new at LG.
We have no idea who will play C and RG, and the odds are decent that both starters in those positions will be rookies.

I don't know if this is considered optomistic, but I expect 6 wins because we need to be playing better.
In regards to O-line, I expect them to be better. Healthy Luke and better play at LG. Center and RG are easier positions to fill with rookies if we have to. I think it will take some time though.
I predict 3 wins. 4 if we get hot. Our O-line is in shambles. We don't have a starting QB. We lost our veteran Center, RB and LB, and we have to rely on CSIII for firepower.... OMG this is going to be a long season.

I don't question that we NEED to play better.
I question our ability to do so early on, especially on the OL.
I would expect those teams early in the schedule (interestingly, all of them are 3-4 teams) to blitz us as soon as we get off the plane.

We already know Gusjuice is worth at least four wins.
If the draft goes right then either 7,8 or 9 wins. if they make some bad picks equaling busts then only 4 or 5 wins. The draft makes teams better, worse or the same.

Really going out on a limb there, huh?
We'll have to wait and see what transpires with the offensive line. We don't know yet who will be plugged in, but I'm pretty sure the team isn't done adding players to the roster just yet, so declaring it in shambles on April 25th is hopefully not a snapshot of what the team will look like on opening day.
I'm not sure opining over losing Meester or MJD is really worth the effort. Meester was done, and MJD wasn't far behind.
We do actually have a starting QB. And we will hopefully find a guy who will become the heir apparent.
I think this season is going to be far less painful than what we saw last year. It's an easier schedule, and the team should continue to show improvement. 6-8 wins is realistic, and maybe they even surprise folks.

That's a really, REALLY important question man. And a good one to ask. The offensive lineman always kind of get overlooked each year here in Jacksonville. But if they're not on the same page, this offense will stall out consistently. Center will be spearheaded by a new body, Beadles is new, Joeckel didn't even play half a season last year, and that was at RT, now he's at LT. And I haven't felt comfortbale with the LG position in years, and even with Beadles in the mix, we also have a new face at RG with Nwaneri out of the mix.
To me, really, it's going to come down to what Bradley and the coaching staff decide to do with the first string offense during the pre-season contests. Do you give, say, the starting offensive lineman maybe an additional 20-30 snaps during each game? Regardless of who the skill position players are? Or, do you keep it simple and clean and just let them kick the tires and call it quits early during the first two weeks? That's what I am most interested in seeing. You always want to avoid early season injuries or setbacks, especially during meaningless football games. But, these guys still need to be battle tested.
I know it's off topic, and it's a completely different position. But does anybody remember that one year when Herman Edwards was basically running Curtis Martin like a regular season workhorse throughout the entire course of the pre-season? And everyone said he was foolish, he's crazy, etc? Martin went onto have arguably his best regular season performance as a Jet after that pre-season and led the leauge in rushing yardage that year in 2005 at 31 years of age. Sometimes you just have to let it go, and give it a shot. Maybe giving the offensive lineman an extra 100-150 snaps during the pre-season is 100-150 CRITICAL plays that won't be blown in 2014 on offense during crunch time. Just sayin'....
Quote:@JagsFerLife...I am not discounting the wins...but IMO they were not quality wins...it's not like we beat some good teams...or heck even took good teams to the wire. Wins are hard to come by in the NFL anyone who watched could plainly see that the Texans were a team that had given up and were going through the motions.
@Pirk...I hear what you are saying...but IMO the offseason changes and the draft will not be enough...I like the moves we have made but I don't see the additions of Bryant and Clemons as turning our D into something opposing Offenses fear...just like I don't see Gerhart and say Watkins making the offense way better...I feel we have way to many holes and stop gap players playing right now.
The first year of a total rebuild are always sketchy. You spend half the season just getting familiar with the new system and players. We won't have that handicap going into this season.
I think we have the third weakest schedule this year. We will have the opportunity for even more "not quality wins" than last year. If all you can do is beat the bad teams then you should still wind up in the middle of the pack as far as wins.
Every team in the league believes they got better after the draft. In our case we are either playing with Chad Henne or a rookie behind 3 new linemen. That's a scary thought.

Honestly I see 6 wins. The schedule is easy and the team is improved. I don't think we will vie for a playoff spot but I think the future is very bright for this team. A strong draft this year and next; 2016 and beyond will be ours for the taking.

Thanks for clearing that up for us.
I will be the only one not surpised then when jags go 9-7 this year. It will happen.

What roster changes have taken place that make this team 5 wins better than last year's?
The roster has improved and the schedule is easier. 7-9 to 9-7, anywhere in there.

The schedule is a little softer; I'll give you an extra win there. The roster has improved somewhat (but still holes to be filled); so maybe another win there.
6-10

Don't ignore the fact that we have a lot of young talent that will probably improve significantly with another year of experience. Add the fact that he majority of our veterans are still in their prime and still have potential to match or exceed their career highs.
That's good for at least a couple of more wins.
Heck, if we just stuck with the idea that we only can beat crappy teams, we could win enough games to get into the playoffs with our schedule.
Anywhere between 6-10 and 8-8 would not surprise me.
I think the team will improve as the year goes on. And they will definitely be considered a playoff contender in 2015.
Ill say 5 wins... I think they have a lil more talent on this team than last year but not enough yet. There are alot of "if"s i hear.. "If BLackmon comes back"; "if the line gets better"; "If they draft a better QB" etc. I have been hearing that since free agency began. If "IF" was a fifth we'd all be drunk right now. As a true born and raised Jax native and diehard fan, Im tired of living off of "If"s. Its time to turn those "If"s into "when"s!
