Quote:Didnt read the whole thread. But, "I hope not"????? Because the man tried to get his $$$? Hes the a top 5 Jaguar in history so FOH hes going in and will deserve it. 80 TDs will be a record that wont be broken any time in the next decade.
Ban worthy to have such a stupid opinion IMO.
Relax Alice. I made my case for it in the OP.
PS: He did get his money. The Jags tore up an existing contract and made him the highest RB in the NFL at the time of it's signing. They fulfilled that contract, which BTW, is unusual for the "highest paid" contracts in the NFL. It has nothing to do with that. It also has nothing to do with his slight at the Jags on the way out of the door either. I don't think Meester should get in either. I can't think of the first bad thing to say about him. He has the longevity and the contribution of MJD, but not from a prominent position. I think he may actually have a better argument, personally. I just don't think either are worthy.
Then again, I guess you could always become a mod and ban me.
Sounds like the team is ready to put him in the Ring Of Honor when he retires, so it doesn't matter what i think. MJD lost me a few summers ago with his antics and he's not been the same on the field either, IMO. That said, I certainly enjoyed watching him play in his prime. Let's move on - Maurice has.
Quote:I loved MJD as much as the next fan while he was here with the Jags. He was the face of the franchise for a lot of years. But is he worthy of being in the ring of honor? Not to me. He leaves with just over 8000 rushing yards and 68 touchdowns. Impressive stats, but not worthy of the team's hall of fame. When compared to Fred Taylor, the yardage looks pedestrian. I think honoring the all time greats of a franchise should be reserved to just that, all time greats. History will tell if I'm right or wrong, but what if a couple backs end up between that 8000 of MJD and the over 11000 of Freddy. Do they automatically get in as well? And if so, does it start looking watered down?
I have no problem with the names in the ring so far. Outside of Jimmy Smith, I just don't see another player who should be even close to considered for the ROH, including MJD.
He deserves to go based on his numbers alone.. He was the only player we had worth mentioning the last 7 years besides scobee. This is easy he will be in there.
Time heals all wounds. It's naive to think he won't someday be in the RoH with a stadium full of fans screaming, "Dreeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!" (even if some are saying "Booooooooooooooooo!")

Spoken like a true ex mod
So how many players in Jaguars history are better than MJD? Boselli, Taylor, Smith, Brackens.....
80 TD's, a rushing title, most rushing td's in a season and all time plus the most rushing yards in a season? No ROH?
Some of you sound like old baseball hags who don't put certain players in the HOF and can't adapt to the changes of the game...

It's not only about the numbers. If that was the case, Jimmy Smith would have his name up there by now.
MJD will get consideration when the time comes. It's not happening any time soon. But, I'm sure he'll get a thorough evaluation by whoever it is that makes the decisions as to which players go into the Pride of the Jaguars. I don't think MJD was ever a mediocre player undeserving of the honor. In fact, I think he's probably done more than enough to warrant being in the ring.
What he said in his parting shot will linger with fans, but so will the highlights of his career. Those will ultimately determine where he lands among the all-time greats.
The guy was the face of the franchise for several years, and it was a well-deserved recognition. Aside from a few hiccups, he represented this team extremely well both on the field and off. It's unfortunate that it ended the way it did, but that's the business of the NFL, and MJD is all about the business of the league. When all is said and done, it wouldn't bother me one bit if he was inducted into the Pride. He was the only shining spot during a pretty down time in franchise history.
He'll get in and he should.
related to this, I wonder if MoJo's number 32 will be taken out of service for the next 7 thousand years, like we still do with Brunell's 8, Taylors 28, Boselli's 71, etc etc....
I hope not, just like those numbers also should be able to be worn again by now...

Yawn.
LOL. This is ridiculous.
10,000+ all purpose yards, 87 touchdowns, and he doesn't deserve the ROH?
Get outta here.

I'll take Things Nobody Should Care About for $200 Alex.

Who's the etc's......? Curious minds want to know.

They haven't used TMDs number either. I don't think the league allows ZERO.
Jacksonville has zero retired numbers. Perhaps when they deem somebody 'worthy' of one of these three they'll get it.
In the Jaguars organization, who makes the determination on which people are voted into the team Ring of Honor?

I assume it's the owner that has the final say
Yeah, I would imagine it's a decision between the owner and possibly Mark Lamping. They might consult some of the Jaguars ambassadors from years gone by.
I would imagine that once the team gets back on track and starts winning with some consistency, we'll see fewer of these Pride inductions. My impression is that this is more of a dog and pony show to keep the fans happy while they're rebuilding. So, if someone like Jimmy Smith wants to get into the Pride, it needs to happen soon.
