I am in the tank for Watkins but, if we go QB, I definitely think Manziel is the guy. I'd be all for taking the "boom or bust" chance. No guts. No glory.

Quote:I am a fan of Manziel and if I were making the pick I would take him before any other QB available.....
However, like I have said in other topics, I still think these guys aren't day one starters and I don't think we have a strong enough team (i.e. Seattle or 49ers) to hide their flaws while they continue to develop.
So while I am happy with his pro day, I still don't think he should be taken #3 overall. But if Dave does decide to go with a QB at #3, then I would prefer it to be Manziel.
Quote:Lol! He didn't perform near his draft position. Not even close.Well if he hadn't been a cokehead, he was strating to come around the last couple years. In fact, his last year here he actually started to look like he 'got it.' But the off the field problems kept him off the field here.
Quote:I know we will disagree on this, but I think you're misinterpreting "showy" for Manziel having what some call the "it factor".
I'm not sure if you were able to catch the live Jaguars broadcast before Manziel came out earlier today. But the guys were talking, and they were saying how Manziel was the only "rockstar" in this draft. And they were saying that in a good way. That there was just something about him that commands a crowd. They said they had both been to Bottles and Bridgewater's pro-days, but that it was diferent. When Manziel walks out he literally demands the attention of everyone in the room, even of all these major NFL head coaches. Not though because Johnny's waving his arms and saying hey look at me, but just because he's got "it". And that's hard to explain, but I think that can sometimes be misconstrued as 'showy'.

BTW Deacon, and honestly, I just read your signature for the first time today. Honestly one of the greatest things I've ever read. Literally rolling on the floor laughing. I not only liked your post, I gave you 5-stars on your profile. Seriously well done sire. If I'm ever on any other message-boards, I might steal it, honestly.
Quote:Actually i agree with Deacon but that's what maturing during your career is for. Every QB doesn't come into the league knowing what's the best play to make becuase then defense wouldn't hardly matter. He is not starter ready right this moment but he is the best of the BIG 3 and the only one who's proved he has that top 5 pop about him that would make him not so much a reach as the others. If he isn't starter ready right now, then he sure isn't worth the #3 overall pick. No matter which QB you like, or what position you like, if you're taking select player #3, he better be able to start from day 1.

No matter which QB you like, or what position you like, if you're taking select player #3, he better be able to start from day 1.I meant it in a sense of making him even better. Look at RG3, Luck, Wilson, etc. You have QB's that come in and perform well in year 1 but then in year 2 they gradually get better and so on. He can start right now it's just with the team in rebuild mode and with Henne's new contract; I feel he can sit a year. We can debate this every year come draft time but unless your rooting for us to either fail or trade a King's ranson to trade up in a future draft you have no idea about following a new college season, then pull the trigger when you can clearly see your target. It's always next year with our fans talking about a QB. We took Gabbert and then it was we should've waited and we still didn't have a high enough selection to pick the best QB. Before then and afterwards it's the same scenario so stop being QB fearful and pull the trigger on the kid with the tools. We hated Tebow because he didn't have the tools but had the will and the size and now we have a flip flop of talent with will but no size and it's the same fear. Im no english teacher so excuse the grammar if need be.
Quote:i've been reading this board for months, hidden with my personal opinion. I've watched the critics talk about Clowney, TB, Bortles, Manziel, and the other possible selections for the Jags. Regardless of opposing opinions and bias, i want Manziel and at #3. I will take a QB with the question of his "it" factor working in the NFL and being a boom or bust prospect, over a DE with all the talent in the world but no personal drive to show he's elite. Clowney has been knocked for his lack of effort but Johnny has been knocked for height and being a college kid with popularity and a drive and will to win that's almost unheard of. Give me the card and regardless of hate i'll take Manziel hands down unless i know we're tanking for the top QB next year at #1 overall with a possible trade up if we pick later in the 1st.I agree with this. In fact I actually hope Clowney's already gone before #3, so the decision is much easier on us.
Quote:I understand the rock star factor, I really do. And Manziel is going to be easy to cheer for and a bear to play against. I'm not doubting any of that. It's a fine and justifiable argument(Manziel has a number of examples in college where he went for the 'big play' instead of the 'easy pass'). Your point is well taken.
What concerns me is this feeling I have that he will pass up the 'smart' play for the 'wow' play. For some positions, that's okay. I'm not so sure that it's okay for a quarterback though. There are too many people that know how to bait a reckless quarterback in the league.
It's not that he won't be effective, I worry that he won't play smart.
Quote:I agree with this. In fact I actually hope Clowney's already gone before #3, so the decision is much easier on us.That's what i mean. I like the other prospects definitely, but when it comes to what he brings to the field it's almost unreal. I know he's still a QB and has to do a QB's job but what QB with that type of 'it" factor have we heard of besides Luck recently. He isn't Andrew by any means but it's a boom or bust draft every year and instesf of being safe each year and hoping you get a prayer one year for a top QB. isn't how things work in the league. You either try and fail with honor or you don't try and fail with hopes and dreams.
I myself personally really REALLY like Clowney, but when push comes to shove, I concur with everything you said, I lean towards Manziel simply for what he could do for our team in particular.
Quote:I can say I wouldn't be pretty excited if we drafted him #3 overall. Now, if we were able to get him with our 2nd round pick, then I'd be excited to see him in a Jaguar uniform.
