I think we're kind of arguing over semantics here, so I'll just refine my point.

"Closer" to me means a guy who can bring a high profile player in and convince him to sign, despite the player having more lucrative or attractive offers on the table.

I think Bradley does have that ability, but I dont know if hes had the chance to show it off just yet. We haven't shown interest in a high profile FA who wasnt a Seahawk (and I'm not saying we should be).
Quote:I agree that you need a blend of free agents/ drafting and trading to generate a top level roster.

However, wheres our "top level FA" type signings? (and please don't say Clemons, he's 33 and coming off an ACL from 2 years ago which no one knows if he'll be able to reach double digit QB sacks again).

The Jags have cornered the market with these low level and perhaps mid level signings-(Clemons/ Beadles), but they have yet to make even one high profile free agent signing (or trade) (or draft pick, really...) in Caldwell's tenure.

....kinda resembles a "base-hit" strategy. Now where have I heard that before?

You get more ridiculous with every overreaching post...

I think you could have ended that last sentence right there....

We have yet to persue any high profile FA's. I don't think any are left at this point, except Mack, and he's unlikely with the "transition" tag.

Pirk, so far, its been a "base-hit" strategy. Not sure how you could argue otherwise.

I'm not too big on FA. But I think we made a mistake passing on Decker. I would consider him a high profile FA who we definitely should have made a stronger push for.

Name that player, just so show your convictions are genuine.

That's a self-fulfilling prophecy.  Who's turned down our bigger money to go elsewhere?
Some you guys are so predictable. Just desperate to find the negative on any move the team makes. Hey, it's what you guys do. It's how you get your jollies. I don't understand the point of it. But hey, for whatever reason you choose to spend hours of every day of your life on a message board complaining about a football team. ¯\(°_o)/¯

If you can't see the positive direction this franchise is headed in under Khan, Caldwell,  Bradley and Lamping...well, that's your loss. I am enjoying it. So are plenty of other people.

Pirk, its unlikely any player is going to turn down bigger money to play elsewhere in FA. It very rarely happens.

It's making me really happy and excited actually.

My roommates are Redskins and Giants fans and I've been made fun of for 4 years. The tide is turning Smile

Lol I like the fact that were adding guys on the dline. I fully support that.

As do I....

All I am saying is in addition to the low level guys we are adding, it would be nice to actually ALSO bring in even ONE high profile/ high talent FA, too.
A closer would have got Revis Island in a Jaguars uniform.  Jags can't even lure somebody like Alex Mack, a center position that needs to be filled.

Yea but what team signed "that Top level FA" and then went on to win the SB? Seattle didn't, Ravens didn't, Giants didnt, Packers didn't, Steelers didnt, Pats didn't....

Yeah I agree with that. Decker would have been that guy for me.

Its not about winning the SB, its about consistently being in contention. And the Pats just added Revis.

If your only perspective is Madden and fantasy football, perhaps.

You're an even bigger fool than you've ever proven if you're attempting to equate this regime with the previous one.

Going with guys you know, trust, and who can fill the role you have open is certainly not "base hitting."  Grabbing a Pro Bowl G to fill a hole we've had since our last Pro Bowl G is not a "base hit."

Now you're just being sad, lazy, and intellectually dishonest solely for attention, again, again...
Quote:Pirk, its unlikely any player is going to turn down bigger money to play elsewhere in FA. It very rarely happens.

Neanderdog... that's what "self fulfilling prophecies" are.  If you were intelligent enough to have this conversation, the big words and topics wouldn't have to be spoon fed to you for you to digest them.

Yea for a ridiculous amount of money. 1 yr for 13 mill.... get outta here. Pats are consistently in it because of the QB. Same with a lot of teams. You don't need to spend big money unless its on your QB.

We need a high level QB more than we need to pay Revis 13 mill or Byrd 50 mill.

Also, the goal is to always win the SB.

Decker? lol

...for a relatively expensive one year kick of the tires.  A not so cheap rental.  That's hardly getting anything done.  It's a very short term patch that gives you nothing in the long run.
