Quote:I hope that didn't come off bad at Jagwired'd. He's a good guy and a buddy. I probably should have re-worded that.
Hah, no, I understood the context.
Quote:Why weren't JJ Watt or Robert Quinn in the playoffs?
Probably because they played on terrible teams.
I can play this game too though. Why weren't Flacco, Big Ben, Tony Romo, Matthew Stafford and Matt Ryan in the playoffs?
Wiseman what a fitting name. You should give it a rest for at least a day. What's obvious is obvious.

Wanted to add Eli but I didn't want to start an argument on whether he's elite or not

Thank you for attempting to initiate the exact argument I was trying to avoid, one post after openly stating I was trying to avoid it.

To be fair, FFlacco just won the Super bowl, Big Ben has 2 rings and Atlanta has made playoffs with Ryan other then last year. Got nothing for ya on romo or Stafford

Flacco, Ben, Stafford, and Romo all four almost made the playoffs. Ben despite his team's poor start. Stafford's team unfortunately fizzled out at the end
Matt Ryan's two top weapons got injured. And he happens to play in a division with Drew Brees and Cam Newton with an amazing defense.
Eli did not play like a franchise Quarterback this year (It's easy to remember that David Garrard once played like a Franchise player. Some players have off years).

I'm talking about this season. My point is that there's far more to a team than just its quarterback.
A good QB will get you to the dance but a great supporting cast will make you prom king, and Clowney is one of those prospects whose ceiling is the Hall of Fame.
I can respect anyone that feels like Bridgewater is the guy. In a sense, I feel like he'll be a good QB too, but I also believe Clowney is worth skipping on a QB for.

It's really all about the QB. Case closed. If you have an elite QB, you can have an average supporting cast with him and make it to the playoffs.
If you have an average QB, you need 10 other above average to elite players to help take you to the SB.
Now its not sure thing that Bridgewater will be a franchise QB but if somehow had a crystal ball and said "Teddy will be a franchise QB and Clowney will be the best DE in the league." I am pretty sure every single team who does not have a QB would take Teddy.

Teddy Bridgewaters come around all the time. Jadeveon Clowneys don't.

If we're drafting prospects by their relative rarity, the Johnny Manziel is at the top of the list.

You have no way of knowing that. I love Clowney and think he's great. But if Teddy is a franchise QB (and no one knows the answer to that yet) I am taking Teddy every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

you take Clowney and get a differ franchise qb. There wont be another Clowney

You sure? There won't be another Clowney? How about you take the franchise QB and get a different DE?
And you are acting like it's easy to find a franchise QB.

Like I said. A good QB will take you to the dance, a great supporting cast will make you prom king.
The Jaguars have two huge needs, one at DE and one at QB. This is precisely why I don't knock anyone for wanting Bridgewater. Our methods are different, but our results are the same if you're looking at DE in the 2nd round. I'd end up looking for a QB in the 2nd round, and possibly trading down with one of my 3rd rounders.to get who I want.
And as others have said, there will never be another Clowney. If you find another guy 10 years from that weighs in a 6'6 250lbs, runs a 4.4, and has displayed a good amount of field intelligence on game day, let me know. Sometimes, even a QB selection can wait behind a player like that. Ask the Raiders.

How often do you see defensive ends that are 6'6 and 270 lbs that can run in the 4.4-4.5 range and that opposing offenses purposely gameplan around him? He would've been a first round pick coming out of high school. That's how rare he is.

But as good as Clowney "may" be, he will not the reason we win a SB. It will be about the QB. Unless we have a Chicago, Balt (2000) or TB type defense, we won't win a SB with an average QB. The last 11 QBs to play in the SB from the AFC are Brady, Ben, Manning and Flacco.
Trust me, I get how good Clowney is. He is a freak and the best DE prospect to come into the league in the last 10-15 years. But if you tell me that Teddy will be a franchise QB I take him because those are rare to come by. We can play good defense without and elite DE (Seattle is doing it right now) but you can not sustain a good offense without a franchise QB.

Then why wouldn't Houston or St. Louis take him?
Surely St. Louis if they didn't want him could trade down and find someone who did, assuming that Houston didn't take him.
I don't think Bridgewaters come around 'all the time' though. I think they come around fairly often. Finding them isn't easy, and being in a position to get them is even less easy. Surely if Clowney is this once in a generation prospect, he won't be there at three in the first place.
