Not a bad comparison, a pretty dead on comparison IMO. He's the type of qb people just fall in love with for no apparent reason other than he's looks like and has the arm of an NFL qb.

You obviously haven't seen him play.

He possesses all of the qualities that Gabbert lacks.  It's a bad comparison.  The two players you are comparing are practically polar opposites on the field.  Sure he's being hyped right now and that is usually misleading - but Bortles is soooooo different than Gabbert.

I can't bet you that he's going to be a bust because it'll be years before we know..but I bet you any bet you want that we do not draft him this year if he declares

I am of the opinion, that for a team as talent deprived as we are, we should only draft a QB with a top 10 pick if our GM and organization are sure that he will be a franchise guy, if they are willing to risk their tenure here on his success.


I am not saying that this guy is not in this draft. But let me ask each of you this, are you willing to pass on a Barr or Clowney or any other top ten talent- with the talent we have on our roster- in order to take the QB you favor (Bridgwater, Bortles, Carr, etc.)


I think it's different if we were to take a QB with a later pick, maybe someone we can develop. It would also be different if we had the overall talent that some of the teams will have that are drafting in the top 10 alongside of us. However for us to draft a Project or question mark QB in the top 10 or worse top 5, with the talent we have, all the while passing on talent we desperately need, would be insane.


I realize that every pick is a risk, but passing on Clowney or Barr, who just from my naked eye seem to be more of a sure thing than a lot of these qbs, could be very hurtful.


I am just as QB starved as all of us on this board, but there has to be another solution.

Tbh I just want someone like Bridgewater or bortles that has pocket presence and isn't afraid to take a hit to make a completion. That's why I like bortles and why Carr and manziel scare me

This is what I agree with. IMO teddy is the only NfL ready QB. And if I'm wrong about Bortles it is undeniable that he is ranked highly due a lot to his potential (and I do believe he has great potential, I just heard the same about BG).


There is a lot more value in drafted an NFL ready and top prospect defensive end, than a qb that your not so sure on.

This is correct, BTW.  I knew Jags could not get #1 but could get #2, but Washington could get #1 over Texans.

Completely agree...I think that's why I still like Bridgewater so much.  His pocket presence is off the charts.  Doesn't matter what is happening around him, he stands in the pocket and when he gets flushed out his head is always up and downfield.

 

Carr reminds me way too much of Gabbert.

I am a UCF homer and a Bortles fan. I think the comparisons to Gabbert are pretty off-base. Just watch some video of the two and you'll see they are completely different players. What does it matter that they both shot up draft boards? So have dozens of other players that have been successful. Gabbert didn't have the college numbers, he played in the spread, and didn't even look good on film. The Gabbert love was all about his physical tools (big guy, big arm). He was always known to have happy feet, even at Mizzou.

I hope so; I'd be thrilled to have him on this roster. First, he needs to declare though.

Maybe the model has been the same, that's because it is probably the smarter and correct way to draft. The difference is of course that this regime will be better drafters. Can we do better with our high draft selections, especially first round than our previous regimes? If not then taking a "new" approach and drafting a QB Isnt going to do us any good either.


Let's face it THe previous regimes may have had the same approach, but who did they take instead of a QB? Tyson alualu? Derrick Harvey? Reggie Nelson? Etc.? no the solution is not to abandon improving your team, and to take a QB at all costs because drafting other positions hasn't worked in the past. The solution is to draft better.


Now if you believe Bortles or whoever is that guy To turn us around, then by all means take him. But if you are unsure at all, then I think there is talent to be had. Maybe we can even swindle into taking Bortles with not our top ten pick?
