Quote:Based on http://stevielovesthejaguars.com/draftorder/    SOS, and before the 4PM games, it looks like the worst draft position we can now have is #9.  The best we can do is #2.   Texans have clinched #1
We even suck at sucking?  How is this possible, that the Texans will get #1 overall after a very disappointing Jaguars season where the media made fun of us all year long?
Read a lot of the quarterback draft pick material and decided to look a little bit at their supporting casts to see who is standing tall as a quarterback and who is the product of being surrounded by great talent.  It is very early to start assuming draft positions but using what early data that is out there does shed some light on the most discussed possibilities.

Quarterback         Draft Estimate      Draft rated Wide Receiver(s)     Est.                        Draft Rated Offensive tackle(s)        Est.

Manziel                High 1st Rnd         Mike Evans  6-5 225              Top 10                       Jake Matthews                                 Top 5

                                                                                                                                         Cedric Ogbuehi                                Low 1st Rnd

Carr                     High 1st Rnd         Davante Adams  6-2 216       Low 1st Rnd             Austin Wentworth                              7th Rn

Bridgewater          Top 5                    Davante Parker  6-2 209       5th Rnd                    none

Bortles                  Mid-low !st Rnd     none                                                                       none

Looking at the supporting cast makes me nervous about Manziel.  A lot of his success is due to his running in spite of having the best offensive tackles in all of college football and one of the two best wide receivers in the country who at 6-5 can bail out a quarterback by dominating defensive backs with his size.

The supporting cast for Bridgewater and Bortles makes them look like better prospects for the NFL where the playing field is much more level than it is across the whole college spectrum.

thoughts?

I expect that we might get #3 overall, with Texans having 1st & Redskins - well Rams actually having 2nd overall draft pick, because why on earth would we try to beat the Colts on the road at this point?

Quote:The only thing that worries me about the second pick is this, say bortles ends up being the number one qb after the combine and pro days ECT with teddy as the second or even falling further. Does the administration take the risk picking whichever qb Huston doesn't take, and furthermore what if the Texans take clowney or Barr with the first pick then we have to pick a QB with the second pick and we'd be stuck between the QB that rose up the draftboard vs the QB who was projected as the first pick for the majority of the year. How do you make that decision. At least if we're picking third or fourth someone could take the risk and we'll pick up the remainder or go a completely different route and get a high caliber defender.

I watched a little more of Bortles...I dont see much in his game that suggests that he is even a top 5 QB in this draft. I think we need to slow down on him.

I think a Clowney McCarron combo makes the most sense.
Not to Matthews. Joekel will be back. Pasztor has played extremely well. I would take Clowney and then pick a QB later.
1. Bridewater

2. Manziel

3. Clowney

My top 3

 draft order  -

The current top 10:

No. 1 Houston (2-13)

No. 2 St. Louis (7-8), from Washington (3-12)

No. 3. Jacksonville (4-11)

No. 4. Oakland (4-11)

No. 5. Cleveland (4-11)

No. 6. Tampa Bay (4-11)

No. 7. Atlanta (4-10 before Monday's game against San Francisco)

No. 8. Minnesota (4-10-1)

No. 9. Buffalo (6-9)

No. 10. Tennessee (6-9)

If Washington wins and we lose do we draft 2nd?

Yep
I want jags to draft teddy but its hard with the texans having the 1st pick in the draft! I've been following manziel, and hope we dont pass on him,but i see us trading up and getting more picks!!!! Sounds better huh -_-
St. Louis is going to trade out of the 2nd spot and acquire even more draft picks. I expect them to be scary good in the next couple of years.

Must be nice to be the beneficiary of such a boneheaded franchise move by a dysfunctional franchise like the Redskins.

I'm afraid you are probably right.  The evil mullet strikes again.

In a division where a 10 win team may not make the playoffs...... At least they are in the NFC!

How do you trade up and get more picks??
Quote:So are you agreeing with my post then? Because you're saying if we win, there is really no other chance the other 4 win teams will win, thus moving us to the 8th pick

I am saying even if we lose, we need Washington's help to move up to #2. So it does not help our draft position to lose because the Redskins are unlikely to beat the Giants.

you trade with Gene smith.

while you're probably right, they did almost, and should have, beat the cowboys yesterday. And the giants have seemed to start collapsing again, to bad detriot completely imploded on the season, I was kinda hoping to see them make the playoffs.
Quote:Even if we lose Sunday and end up picking 2nd or 3rd overall, it would benefit us greatly if the other 4 win teams won.

In the event two or more teams end up with the same record, order in the 1st round is determined by strength of schedule. However, the order rotates round by round such that in that group of teams with the same record, the team that picks first in that group in the first round moves to the bottom of that group in the 2nd, while the rest of the group moves up one.

As it now stands there are some five teams with 4-11 records. If we all finish with 4-12 records, the Jaguars might pick 3rd overall in round 1, but maybe 8th overall in round 2.

If Jacksonville decided to go Clowney or Barr at 3, we'd likely need to trade up quite a bit to ensure a QB ahead of those that did not get one at the top of round one, so it benefits us if that group of four win teams is small.

There are four teams with 11 losses: Cleveland, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, and Oakland. We have the weakest SOS of those four. If all four teams lose and the Redskins, who are 3-12, win, we need to worry about Washington's SOS. That is something nobody considered before their loss to the Cowboys.

Something else to think about: The Vikings said they will cut Christian Ponder and Josh Freeman, so with the next pick after all 4-12 teams, they may want to trade up for a quarterback. If we are #3 and the Vikings are #9, the Rams could ask for too much to give up their #2 pick.
