Quote:Is this the first time ever that a coach got fired because of losing to the Jags?
Jimmy Johnson
Quote:Same thing happened to Caldwell in Indy. THe tanking call comes from the owner, so it doesn't matter. Kubiak will be given a nice severance for helping them get Bridgewater.

So, the owner mandated the team should tank, meeting with the players and coaches to let them know his intentions?

I know the answer to this question, but do you realize just how idiotic you sound?
Quote:Jimmy Johnson

He retired.
Quote:I wonder if he regrets tanking on purpose?

Of course not.  This is all part of the plan to enrich himself with hush money from the owners.

This is to much...thanks  Laughing
Quote:...you better hope he's a bust.
I was going to delete the DVR last night, but FF'd through to Louisville's offensive drives. He is not playing at a first round level.
Quote:Darn.

Welp, The Texans with a new coach and Bridgewater could be scary....

A coach we don't know and a far from a sure thing QB are scary? Doesn't take much to scare you I guess.

Also, it just goes to show the difference in the 2 teams
....

The Texans are one season removed from 12 wins, a div title and a playoff victory...and they fired Kubiak....

The Jags were essentially in the same situation in 2008 but kept Del Rio.... smh

Normally I am loathe to engage in any kind of conversation with you, but your statement above begs a question. In what way does this delineate the difference in the teams? Specifically in regards to the Jack Del Rio era.

the 2013 Jacksonville team has a different Head Coach, a different General Manager, a different Vice President of Operations, a different Owner, even a different freaking Locker Room. This is not Wayne Weaver's team anymore. The only thing that he has to do with the organization is that his name is painted on the inside of the stadium. There has already been an example of how "this team" handles failure and it ain't all that easy on the people responsible for it.

As soon as Khan got first hand exposure to the failures of Gene Smith, Mike Mularkey, et al, he got them away from the organization. When he saw people underperforming, they got removed. If anything, Houston and Bob Mcnair should be the model for your derision. He's the owner that went and hired Dom Capers after the Carolina debacle. He allowed Kubiak to stay after two separate 6-10 seasons. You actually picked the two opposite teams to make your comparison.

I get that you want the team to do well, but this is simply pathetic reaching and fitting / mauling the facts to some weird vision you have from my perspective.

Just what are you trying to say here?

Trying to say that Jax should have handled 2008 just like Houston handled 2013.

Not sure why in the world you are bringing the Jags new regime of Khan/Caldwell into it, They aren't part of my argument.
 Needed more silicone spray.

I think it was either herp or derp

The Texans are keeping their GM. So you're saying they should have kept Shack and fired Jack?

JDR should have been fired following 2008. Shack should have been out the door/ demoted sooner.

Looks like my partying and message board dance was a few years too early.  I was excited when Kubiak was given an extension because I didn't think he was a good coach.  I do have some sympathy for him this year considering he is a few weeks removed from a mini stroke.  Nice class shown by the Tinhorn owner.  Jeeze pretty ruthless.

But you said the Jaguars should have handled 2008 like the Texans handled this year. So you're saying they should have kept Shack and fired Jack. I am surprised.

Del Rio should have been handled in 2005 specifically with the Wild Card game QB fiasco in mind. Garrard earned the playoff start and Del Rio fixed up Leftwich with an air split for his ankle and decided that was good enough. John Madden was being kind to not make a complete idiot out of "Alibi" Jack.

By the time Garrard finally entired the game, it was obvious that Del Rio just wanted David to get ripped in half.

ruthless? No. This is a billion dollar business. This isn't the church league. Its too bad for Kubiak, but it goes with the territory. The Texans organization is handling this like a team that won't tolerate seasons like this. Good for them. Bad for us.....unless of course, they mess up this coaching hire.....personally I hope they hire Jack Del Clown. Thats one of the only ways this could turn out good for Jax.

No, you're saying that. I just stated in response to you that Shack should have been demoted before 2008. Continue to try to bait & switch though.
No TMD I'll disagree with you... reading the press conference notes here is a quote..

" Case is going to be the quarterback, and we're going to give him a chance, " McNair said.  Sure makes me glad we have our owner.  I guess I shouldn't be too surprised McNair and Adams (RIP) are mavericks.

It looks like McNair was afraid they might win a game, with Kubiak talking about starting Schaub, so he fired Kubiak and listed Keenum as starter for Sunday......McNair is so clearly tanking its blatant now.

per rotoworld:

The Texans announced Case Keenum will start in Week 15 against the Colts.

Coach Gary Kubiak said after Thursday night's loss to the Jaguars that Matt Schaub was an "unbelievable pro" and would be considered for the starting job for the rest of the season. Kubiak was then fired Friday morning. The 2-11 Texans are in full-blown evaluation mode, and it makes no sense to give Schaub anymore starts. His time is likely done in Houston, as well. Keenum has struggled mightily in recent weeks. He won't be a recommended fantasy option.
