Blackmon has unlimited potential

I see Blackmon as a heck of a football player and hopefully the changes off the field are sustained as that could be his major hang up in becoming elite.

Blackmon is moreso. Theyre both good at what they do, but Justin isnt very good at winning outside the numbers. He is outstanding at winning in the middle though. Cecil can do both. Im refering to your statement of being a one trick pony so dont go changing the argument now.

I know Skip is Skip, but still.. how in the world. I think he does this just for attention LOL

Quote:He did today, without Shorts, what I mentioned previously that Shorts cannot do without him.I agree with this. Shorts is very good for the offense as he is our deep option and he is very good at that, but Ultimately he picks up most of his yards when people are double teaming Blackmon or garbage team.
Blackmon however is a big strong receiver who can perform by himself.
I still think injuries permitting we will have 2 1k receivers this year. I'm just hoping we can still pick up Bridgewater in this draft.

Brilliant! On yahoo, they're arguing if Blackmon is the best WR in the NFL.
Here is one of the retorts "Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, and AJ Green are better with a couple just as good".
It looks like Blackmon's making the pro bowl this year, maybe even all pro.

Blackmon in the slot, Shorts & (DeVante) Parker on the outside with Bridgewater throwing the rock = possibly the first 1000 yard "triplets"

We arent going to be taking a WR high enough in the draft to get Parker. There are far higher priorities.

I like how they kept blackmon in the slot. Dominated there. Great stuff

If by one trick pony, you mean can run practically every route and get separation, then sure. One trick pony it is.

Do y'all see him as a boldin type player or someone that can be better than boldin?
10-16-2013, 09:26 AM
Better. He did the things with out a great receiver on the other end. What has boldin done since left the ravens?

Correction chiefs.

I am not even sure the "one trick" he was trying to claim was anyway.

he is wrong obviously... shorts is very capable and good WR, one trick pony hardly describes him... but i wouldnt say he doesnt have flaws.... the obvious being the injuries, which is the only thing that kept him from breaking 1k last year. i would say his biggest downfall is shier awareness... he concentrates on catching the ball and seems to not here the foot steps coming, which is what any wr coach trys to instill in their players, but its latent effect is that it can get you wr's busted up... couple that with the fact he runs routes at top speed and you have a good recipe for injury.... ive seen him get clocked a few too many times... i think on top of that his size plays against him in the since that db's will play more physical when they feel the guy is smaller... i know i did in school lol, u'd think twice before laying into a 6'2 plus receiver goin at top speed but i loved when a sub 6 foot guy who weighed 150 soaking wet would come over the middle lol.... IMHO, shorts will be an asset for years to come if he takes notes from the CJ2K hand book... i hate CJ but one thing i admire is his ability to avoid the big hits by being shifty enough to give hard hitters a piece but never full contact which is how you stay healthy.

Im not really seeing the sentiment that Blackmon cant win outside the numbers. He can break the screen on the outside easily and has shown to be solid running the out and corner routes both in college and NFL levels.
Just becuase the offensive gameplan calls for him over the middle doesnt mean he cant win outside. Same thing for the QBs. Neither Gabbert or Henne have the accuracy to make the edge throws and most times they dont try them at all.
When we add a competent Qb who knows how to move guys around you will see Blackmon as the premiere WR lining up outside and inside at will.
Slant,Out,Post,Corner,Hitch,In,Drag,Curl,Fly.... Blackmon has beaten defenders on every one of these routes during his time here last year and his games this year. The only one i have yet to see him run is the deep comeback (Think Reggie Wayne vs Rashean from Manning). Which is suprising because he ran it well in college.

Quote:That argument doesn't work unless Blackmon had a lot of 200 yard games, he had one. Is Chad Henne the answer at QB I mean he had 4 td 0 int and 400 yards in that game? One good game means he's the best right? I'll take Shorts 7+ 100 yard games, 10+ 70+ yard games and 9 TD over a guy who is getting on average 40-50 yards a game with the occasional big game against a bad defense and 6 TDs.Idk man, Blackmon has had better games and is more consistent catching the football, and is more durable. Obviously more talented. Id take Blackmon every time
Both are good, but right now Cecil is better. If Blackmon comes out the next couple of weeks with the same sort of stat line he had yesterday then I'll agree with you. Either way it's a great WR core and you seem to have had a problem with Shorts for years now.
