Quote:Not sure when you made that thread, but around this time last year, Shorts was definitely the better player.  He looked absolutely lost out there.

Based on yesterday's game and preseason, I'd say it's close to even.  I expect Blackmon to get ahead at some point though.  He has more talent, which is saying a lot because Shorts is really good.

Shorts needs a presence like Blackmon on the other side for him to be able fill the stat line. Blackmon is the catalyst.

Shorts treats the ball like a hand grenade too much.
Quote:btw TMD,

some people might have been wrong about JB, but they weren't as wrong about him as you were about Cecil Shorts.  Just saying Wink

Yeah, I underrated him a little bit. Its good to see that they have capable weapons at both WR spots. It will only make things that much easier for the next QB to come in here and develop.

The fact that Gabbert/ Henne still struggle despite having weapons pretty much tells you all you need to know about them as QB.
It is nice to have competent receivers, whoever comes here next year will be in for a treat

Quote:Why do we have to compare and pick sides, Why not enjoy them both?  its nice to actually have weapons at the WR position finally and if everything goes well we will get a nice franchise QB in April.

That's what I was thinking. I am not even sure what the point is of trying to degrade Jaguar fans for having a different opinion about which receiver is better anyway.

Yep, its part of why I do not see Bridgewater pulling a John Elway and refusing to play here.

Agreed
I agree.  Justin Blackmon is a very unique receiver.  Dez Bryant and Anquan Boldin are the only other receivers that have a similar game today.  I like his swagger.  At one point yesterday it looked like he was about to get into a fight with a Rams corner that hit him after his forward progress was stopped.  It looked like he was about to swing on him, but he just threw his arm over the Rams player's head and continued to talk trash back to our side of the line.  We need more players with fire like that - as long as he can control himself.

Cecil is a very good #2.  He has a few limitations that Justin does not have though.  Cecil's hands are very mediocre.  He also needs the ball while on the move - he's not going to win battles 1v1 for a contested ball against a corner very consistently. All the back shoulder throws he's missed this season kind of demonstrates that.

Yeah, TB wont do that.  Plus, he's a Florida boy.

Good points, especially the 2nd one. Thats one that some might miss.
Blackmon good.

Shorts good.

Ace has flashed some potential, both as a receiver & returner.

Our WR group should get stronger, as far as depth/role players as the season goes with Brown & Burton coming back.

Quote:Blackmon is the most talented player this team has has since Fred Taylor. TMD we agree on this.

This is true, and I'm shocked the OP hasn't already started a thread saying we should trade him since that's what he does.

I have no doubt that before the season ends, he'll put one out there just so he can say he was the first to do so.

Regarding Blackmon, I really hope the kid can keep his nose clean because he's got the potential to be a great player for this franchise once we get the QB situation settled.  If he can stay out of trouble, he could wind up being a dominant fixture for this offense for years.

Yeah, Ace had that nice return for a TD yesterday that was called back for penalty.

I'd say the Jags offense is a Bridgewater, big possession WR, and seam-busting TE away from being one of the more prolific, talent-wise in the NFL.

Thats stupid, I suggested trading MoJo because of hsi age/ our rebuilding situation.

I suggested Shorts' because in my mind, he's merely a cog. But now after seeing Caldwell's "negotiation skills" only being able to net a couple of old shoes in return for Monroe, I wouldn't even do suggest that anymore.

Blackmon is a true fixture piece for the rebuilding and is young enough to be here when the process hits its zenith. I would never suggest dealing a player like that at his age.

You are simply ridiculous or ignorant with the above crap if you cannot see the logic in some of the players I suggested trading.

I don't even think we need the big possession wr. We just need a receiving tight end. And of course the qb who we are a Tampa bay win away from clinching.

You could be right. Like what Dallas has currently. Even that #89 had some key catches yesterday for Dallas.

I'd like to see what Burton can do with Blackmon & Shorts on the field. He's not cut out to be a starter, but he's an intriguing guy that could probably be a good rotational WR in 3&4 wide sets.

Yep. They found the replacement for Witten. Maybe we should just get a former basketball player... It has worked for a few teams so far.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins played football and basketball his true freshman year at UW.
Blackmon took a lil to get goin as a rook. But by all accounts, he does look legit. Hope he keeps his nose clean, so to speak.

Shorts and Blackmon likely benefit from each other being on the field. Without Shorts, Blackmon is surely doubled and maybe even tripled. Without Blackmon Shorts wouldn't get open at all most of the time.

Blackmon, Shorts, Sanders.... not a bad trio for a QB to get.

What I don't get is why everyone is sold on Bridgewater more than a more polished pro-ready QB.

I like Murray, McCarron and Boyd all better than Manziel or Bridgewater. Based on what I think they will be in the NFL, not what they are doing now

Quote:I remember actually arguing with a few people in the trade Cecil thread who were saying that Cecil was better than Blackmon, and they were actually being indignant about it, rofl....

If you can't see that Blackmon is clearly, easily the better WR of the 2, and is a flat out on his way to being a special player in this league ala what Freddy Taylor was, then you are flat out blind or simply don't understand what you are watching.

He literally is a threat to score from anywhere on the field once he gets the ball in his hands, and he's got that special knack to NOT get caught from behind. People took issue with Blackmon's "40 time" around draft time, and it was stupid because you could tell by how he played in college that it really was never an issue. Its not an issue at the pro level either.

.....Can you imagine how good he'll be once he gets a legit QB throwing the rock to him?!?!?

Bridgewater to Blackmon.....music to my ears

Cecil and Blackmon will be the best WR duo in the league with a good QB, PS 1 100 yard game doesn't make him better than Cecil who has about 7.
