Just one thing... If Blake does bust out... It should not constitute a rebuild. The offense has enough talent and pieces to get a serviceable qb and compete for this division.

No more of this blow it all up stuff.

Its time to bring in competition for the qb spot. But the fact that bb5 sucks should not change the trajectory of this offense.

In fact, a new qb may be a huge improvement for this team that leads to a playoff run in 2017. A real coach with a mediocre qb would have this offense flying out there.

The offense is stacked with talent, besides at qb-- which we all know is a dumpster fire. Replace bb5 with a competent qb, and we're right there in the afc south.
The problem is deeper than just bortles.

The offensive line has stunk most of the season.  It has improved under Hackett but the Rb's continue to get hit behind the LOS.

The receivers have dropped some very catchable balls.  Remember allen robinson having a td bounce off his hands for an int?

Olson was a terrible play caller.  I was calling out plays in advanced.

The million dollar question is why Bortles has played terrible.  Did he get lazy this offseason?

-His form has been terrible

-Missing wide open Receviers

-Too many turnovers.

IDK if he can be reparied but it's broken right now.
BLINK... BLINK.

Did you see him throw 1 spiral last game?  Honestly...?
He has missed some throws been plagued by a bad line and a bad coach calling plays most of the season.  His interceptions are less mind numbing than last year and his completion pct is actually up.  JT is not opening up the offense like we though and he still has no running game.  Does he need to work on his mechanics, absolutely but he is far from a bust right now.  I have faith he will put it together, he just needs to grow up some and work on his fundamentals.  He will start to see the field better soon it is too early to give up on him.

Quote:Why are you convinced Blake Bortles needs to rest his arm when it is perfectly healthy? He never showed up on the injury report.

Watching him throw the past few weeks has me convinced something isn't right with his arm. Not being on the injury report does not necessarily mean he's perfectly healthy. They may not even realize the issue which wouldn't shock me knowing this coaching staff.

His bad throwing motion means only one thing: bad coaching. You are one of very few posters if not the only one who seems to think poor throwing mechanics is strictly related to a hidden arm problem.
IIRC he's already said it's been sore, which many already speculated would result from the motion.  Poor mechanics and overworking his arm caused his strength to deteriorate in 2015 as well.

Where does one hide an arm, btw?

I agree. The only problem is that some people have already made up their minds about him and won't change their opinion no matter what he does. To them, 2015 didn't exist and 2016 is the "real Bortles" because some of our fans are so consumed with being negative. It's embarrassing and it pisses me off because I have to hear other fans call us "a moron fan base" because we turned on Bortles so fast after he had a good season.

I said hidden arm problem, not hidden arm. And he said absolutely nothing about being injured. Sore and injured are totally different things.
He gets easily baited into throwing INTs, especially on those sideline passes, the DB gives a little bit of cushion and watches Bortles stare down his WR and then bammm! INT-6!
The odds of another Bortles thread being started is very high is what I believe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think people have made up their minds about him, they just call it like it is. As soon as he isn't playing the position among the worst in the league we will give him credit for that. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that is coming any time soon...but fingers crossed.

Also, as has been said many times, even if 2015 is the "real Bortles" that isn't nearly good enough. He was decidedly average last year by every stat that wasn't compiling/trailing by 2+ score stats. He doesn't just need to take a gigantic leap from what he is now to what he was last year, he needs to take another large step forward from his 2015 version to be considered a true franchise QB.
So bb5 has had a "sore arm" or some other arm injury since the preseason??? Chris collinsworth commented and then showed bbb5's motion in the Sunday pre-season game for crying out loud. His throwing motion in that preseason game is the same as we are seeing now.

I know it would be nice to explain away his terrible mechanics with something easy. But lets face it. The facts point to a young kid that began to buy into his own hype who then subsequently took the off-season as a vacation and decided not to get better or really work on his game.

This compounded with the worst coaching staff in the NFL resulted in a complete regression of all bb5's skill sets including mechanics.

There is no sore arm or arm injury magic bullet that can explain away what we have been seeing in his throwing motion since august, unless you are willing to believe that he entered the preseason already injured-- which I believe would be a leap of faith that borders on the levels of Jonestown kool-aide consumption comparitability.

Regrettably true. The problem is deeper than just Bortles, though he is at the leading edge of it along with Gus Bradley. Our offensive line has been sub-par, especially when it comes to run blocking. Having a mobile quarterback has saved him from getting sacked even more than he already does. Some of the issue has been and continues to be the play calling. Of late our receivers have been dropping catchable passes. I don't know, but maybe it's because of late they've become surprised if the ball is anywhere near catchable and are being caught off guard as a result. Still, that's no excuse.

The run blocking has been below average but I actually think they're doing a good job in pass protecting. I've seen a lot of plays where Blake has more than enough time but he isn't fast enough in his reads and his long throwing motion gets him in trouble.

Gotta get him back to this. Look how clean and quick it is.

And he hits Lee in stide for a 53 yard TD.
^^ and that was his rookie year in preseason.

It's shocking how badly his mechanics have regressed.

I'm pretty sure that's this past preseason.
