Not too thrilled about Coughlin, but he's a disciplinarian. A definite need for this team that's in shambles right now.

Very much so.

That's pure speculation. But anything is possible. We do need a proven head coach here in Jacksonville that commands discipline and authority. Coughlin is one of the very few remaining coaches that has that aspect down to a tee. These young players will listen to him. When you look at what he's already accomplished here in Jacksonville and what he did with the Giants. He certainly knows what the hell he is doing.

I'd approve of TC in an administrative/consultant role. Hard for me to imagine him as HC here. 

I think it would be a good idea to see if he's interested. It won't be for the long term. But if he could maybe come in for the next two to four years and he's able to bring in a few of his own coaches then we might be able to promote within and move along without skipping a bit too much when he's ready to retire for good. Let's say Tom comes back in 2017. We finish 7 - 9. Then in 2018 we maybe finish 8 - 8 or 10 - 6. And then by 2019 we're a play-off caliber football team with 11 - 5 or 12 - 4 capable records give or take. That's all we need him for. Change the culture. Discipline the team. Plant that winning and tough mentality in some of these kid's heads right now on the roster. And then we insert his defensive coordinator or offensive coordinator of his choice into the head coaching position in 2020. It's a good building block and stepping stone and it's at least a start. It's certainly better than anything we've seen over the last nine years here in Jacksonville.

Bingo.  I think the part in bold is the biggest issue with this team right now (other than a struggling QB).  Lack of discipline as well as a "me first" attitude by some of them.

I'd be good with Tom as HC.  Say what you will about his age, but the man has twice turned loser/non-existent franchises into playoff teams with a winning culture by year two.  I laugh at the people who say the game has passed him by after winning a Super Bowl 5 seasons ago and then who want coaches that haven't coached in a decade like Cowher and Gruden.  Let's not act like Coughlin's Giants were suddenly bad and poorly coached - they lost 8 games last season by less than 1 score and could very easily have been a playoff team.

Add a pinch of salt to the wound, cover with rubbing alcohol and marinate for that perfect lack of discipline flavor..

Totally agree. The team is predominantly made up of kids. Most who came from winning college programs. They simply do not have the maturity to handle this new level of play, money and responsibility. They need someone very strong and disciplined to guide them as they mature mentally and in their skills. I can't imagine being their age and having the kind of fame and money they have. Hell, most of us at their age were still learning how to balance a checking account and keeping our cars running so we could get to a low paying starter job. Someone like Coughlin is needed to help bring them along.

After this debacle, the Jags will need some help selling tickets which includes rejuvenating old school Jag fans.

Maybe, but he would be better than any coach we could get for the foreseeable future. Tom could come in for a couple of years, instill an actual mindset into this team and ride off to the sunset of retirement.

Not a fan when teams or even people run back to anyone/anything that they had success with in the past. Don't be the jilted lover that runs back to the ex every time something goes wrong in life. That never works out well. 

70 isn't that old. Gregg Popovich is 67, and LeBeau is 79. Wouldn't put too much weight on age.

It can be done. We've seen Vermeil, Gibbs, Parcells & Shanahan all come out of retirement and have a few years of success on teams that were struggling. They come in, shake things up a little, turn it around and hand it off to another coach that should hopefully be able to retain their success to a certain degree whether a bit higher or a bit lower. But it's been done before. And Coughlin is certainly capable of producing the same exact results.

The only constant that Tom would have is location. He'd have a new owner with Khan, a new GM, new facilities ect.. Only the name and location would be the same.


This is almost a totally different team from when Tom held the reigns.
