But if bb5 goes and you get smith or cousins they will do the same thing hand off hand off pass then punt. And i would rather have a QB the team trust and has taken them to the AFCCG then someone who fell apart agains teh titans in a playoff game.

I'd like to think our OC would build a playbook around the strengths of our offense and QB, but you are right, with Hackett, there is no guarantee it won't be more of the same.

I am fine with BB getting another year if Hackett goes. The guy is terrible.
If it's more of the same that's a spot in the AFCCG? I'll take it. Year after year.

If you are fine gambling with the offensive mindset of not being able to come from behind and win, then that's cool.

The churn has to stop. I am definitely willing to gamble that continuity in coaches/systems and players will produce more desirable results than constantly new systems and staff.

Are you sure it was Hackett?

Hackett called a strong game in the first half. He's tactically sound, and the OC playcalling is all about tactics. The fourth quarter failure was at a strategic level, not a tactical level, and that has Marrone's fingerprints all over it.

Man, I hope not. By the time the brass figures out Marrone is the culprit, the defense will be long gone.

I'm not a Blake peanuthugger like some of these Pats posters are with Tom Brady, but I think he showed enough improvement this year to deserve to be a starter again next year.

On one hand, I absolutely agree with you. Blake could progress even more in year 5 and the offense take another step up with ARob and a pass catching TE.

On the other hand, Blake could still be inconsistent and you’re not sure which Blake will show up.

Maybe another offseason of work gets him there.

Agreed, and maybe some general field vision issues but he's not the only starter to have that problem. If he could get a little better consistency with placement/accuracy with all his other positive qualities he'd be a solid starter. But who knows what next year will bring. He may not even be on the team but I'd guess he will be.

I’d go even a bit further than that. Sign him to an extensive inventive laden contract making sure he’s aware we are bringing in real competition. Give him something like 6 mill guaranteed and a 750k roster bonus for each game he starts. That’s $6,000,000.00 guaranteed + $14,250,000.00 including 3 post season games in potential earnings. That’ll reduce his cap hit and really give him something to play for. He controls whether or not he gets paid. And we could still go after a decent vet. Blake either wins the job outright or we have a pretty decent backup who will still hold trade value because of his contract.
Sorry I just don't understand all the love for Alex Smith. The guy is a stat stuffer. He's 2-5 in the post season including a blown 21-3 halftime lead at home three weeks ago throwing to guys like Kelce and Hill while Bortles is throwing to Lewis and "stone hands" Lee. He's so good Andy Reid traded picks to move up in the first round to take Mahomes to replace him.

I would have 100% more confidence with Smith over Bortles. 5 ints this year. This is exactly what this team needs. We need a QB who can get teams out of the box and won't turn the ball over. I know Blakes ints were down, but honestly I can remember at least 10 that were right to the defender and dropped, half for pick six. And Smith is mobile hes only 33.

And remember Kelce went out with a concussion in that game. Tennessee adjusted better than we did when Kelce went out
Alex Smith would be a Gene Smith mediocre acquisition. Mediocrity will never beat Tom Brady, his HC and their refs in the playoffs.

Alex Smith 2 games against New England. 7 tds 0 picks 145 qb rating. 2014 and 2017

Sorry but a 2 or 3 game sample size against the Pats is not really relevant. How did he do against Buffalo and Pittsburgh this year? Bortles is like 1700 yards 10 tds and no picks against the Colts the past 3 years. At least the colts are in the same division as the jags so his success may actually be worth something.
Only on a Jaguars forum would a 3-13 turn AFC Championship teams QB be deemed a failure.

He tried and failed.. I mean, it's not like our opponents in the AFCCG have arguably the greatest Quarterback of all time, is it?...

Hence my signature.
When BB throws off his front foot his accuracy is off. He is good when driving the ball with back foot planted.

I'm assuming you are joking with Hackett.

A top 5 scoring offense, with no WR1 and he's terrible?

Top 6 in yardage as well.

7 blow out wins.  7 games over 30 points.  He had some games I didn't like, but he also called some spectacular games as well.
