Stack the box? ASJ, Chark, Westbrook and Cole got you.

Go with 7 man fronts? Norwell and Robinson pave the way for Fournette.

Let's hope we actually try to combat a stacked box by throwing to these guys.
Often, we run into the stacked box.

The box will continue to be stacked until BB5 proves he can make them pay on the regular for stacking the box.
I think most of last year was “hey man. Don’t lose this for us.”

This year will be more “Go win it.” Im excited for his season.

Our long lost friend Eric has been slowly cutting up all of LFs carries from last year.

Hopefully this will show just how much WE stacked the box against us, not the defense stacking the box because teams we were terrified of LF and/or not scared of Bortles. Damn near every run we have 9 in the box first. What do we expect the defense to do?

If I were the offensive coordinator running a LOT more 11 personnel would be my top priority. Even if it's to run out of that will help unclog the middle of the field, with the added bonus of a nickleback trying to tackle Fournette instead of a 3rd linebacker.

It doesn't matter how bad things may get, (hopefully they won't), I'll never be screaming for Kessler to replace Bortles. I am more confident in our backup situation though than I have been in past seasons.

I think that was the strategy going into the offseason... to get a young, experienced backup QB that wont create a lot of drama or QB controversy. I think they accomplished that.

As of right now the trade for Kessler looks to be a good one. The backup QB spot appears his to lose. Kudos to Dave Caldwell for pulling the trigger on this trade.

The rookie QB has also looked better than expected. IMO he threw behind a lot of receivers in his highlight reel and have not seen this to be an issue thus far in camp, which is surprising considering that he is in a new system. I hope that he can complete the year on PS without being claimed
So at this point it looks like Leon Jacobs has made the team. Who gets cut at LB? Payne, McCray, Blair Brown? not sure how many LB's we generally keep on the roster,

Very good to hear.

Both strong.  I think we finally make the dance this year.

If the passing game is reliable this year... we could be the most feared team in the league by the end of week 2.

55 snaps in one practice. Hell that's more than an entire Gus Training Camp!

The impressive part to me, is we know how good this defense is and Blake is still having success. Now I'm sure they aren't going 100% (much like last year when we feared the pass rush was nonexistent in camp) but it's still very encouraging.

I'm thinking they need to keep at least five but usually keep six. So, I'm thinking...

  1. Telvin Smith
  2. Myles Jack
  3. Leon Jacobs
  4. Blair Brown
  5. Lerentee McCray
  6. Donald Payne
Practice Squad: Brooks Ellis

waived: Deon King and rookies Reggie Hunter and Andrew Motuapuaka

Of course, this is wide open. I chose the waived guys only because I've yet to hear a peep about them.

I keep hearing about how fast and incredible Chark was today. The first week of camp it seemed like he was squarely behind Lee, Cole, Westbrook and Moncrief, but it's like he emerged over the past couple practices. He's right there in the mix with the rest of them.

Really the only question at WR remains who will be the extra slot guy and punt returner between Rashad Greene, Shane Wynn and Jaydon Mickens. ...or does Westbrook return punts with the 6'5" Lazard stealing that 6th WR spot???

I see this as a real possibility. I believe by the time the season starts, Chark will overtake Westbrook and Moncrief for the 3rd WR position. I can't see us just benching Westbrook. He was an excellent return man in college. I believe he takes over as the regular punt returner. As for the 6th WR spot, it's anyone's guess.
From Mike Kaye:

Interesting answer from Todd Wash about the nickel spot: Says Hayden is playing well but they are also considering Patmon and Herndon (UDFA). He wants to see who can tackle and who can blitz (Colvin specialty) in the preseason. #Jaguars

It would be really great if Patmon or especially Herndon could step up into that spot. Imagine having our nickel locked up on a rookie contract for 5 years.

Ouch. Based on the camp reports, I'm getting the impression that the signings of Hayden and Moncrief were mistakes that wasted a lot of cap space. That was the consensus of the board at the time, which makes me wonder how Caldwell failed to see what most people here thought was obvious.
