I like the Goolsby pickup though.
What were the injuries at TE?
Not entirely sure. The impression I got is that they weren't serious, just sufficient in number that they couldn't complete the drills.
They seemed to harp more on Ngakoue, who was poked in the eye and missed yesterday's practice (not thought to be serious), and Telvin Smith, who missed yesterday's practice for personal reasons.

That move, plus the Goolsby signing was due to a slew of injuries at TE. They pushed the practice back so Goolsby could pass his physical before practicing, according to 1010xl.
Having to sign someone to fill in at TE should put any talk of Lazard switching to bed.
Forgot all about that talk, but yeah, you are absolutely right on this point.

Outside of Greene getting hurt (or another WR) I don't see Wynn, Lazard, or Mickens making the 53
Greene has had nothing but good day after good day from underwear until now.
Good for him (and for us)
Lee, Moncrief, Cole, Westbrook, Chark, Greene
Not too shabby of a crew lacking a "true" #1 (Although I think a couple different guys could emerge or develop into that)
That seems to be the lineup. However, how can the Jags cut Mickens, who was/is the best punt returner the Jags have ever had? Is punt returner not that important a position that the Jags would settle for (say) Greene instead of Mickens there?
You bring up an interesting point. PR duties... Greene was doing well there before getting hurt, iirc. Mickens also had one game last year he shined as a WR...
If its close do you go with youth? Do you weigh the PR job heavier than WR?
It's gonna be a tough decision for the coaches for sure.
Maybe someone is slid into IR like Chark who we don't really need this year. That selection was definitely a stash thing (plus he's had dropsies in camp a lot from what I've read)
It's probably the best battle of camp, not just for the 6th... but pecking order in general. Can Moncrief's contract be enough to hold Cole out of getting more snaps? Who's gonna take the place of Agent 88 in the slot? When healthy Hurns was real reliable for us there making some clutch catches....
(SAM was looking like it would be a battle, but then looks like it was handed to--or taken by--Jacobs.)

Ahh I gotcha... Likely camp fodder guys gettin nicked and they don't wanna put too much on guys likely to make the roster (ASJ, Paul)

I have not heard about Chark with dropsies, but it wouldn't be a total shock. He's a rookie trying to learn the offense, how Keenan wants him to run the routes, coverages, etc. and he hasn't even gone up against Ramsey until maybe yesterday.
Green had a stretch during his rookie year where he looked like he was on a huge trajectory. He had numerous long punt returns. Then he had the bad year, then tore his achilles (2016, IIRC). He missed last year. I want to know how he is in the aftermath of that achilles tear. Does he have his speed and burst back? Has he gotten back in the coaches good graces? As for that last question, that seems to apply to Mickens too, because the coaches seemed upset with him late last year.
At this point my choice would be Mickens. Though Greene has caught a lot of passes so far in camp, I know Mickens still has the burst, and I know he can return punts very well, since he had two long punt returns last year-one for a TD.
IIRC doesn't Moncrief have a one year deal-two at the max? I don't think his contract would be lucrative enough to hold Cole out of anything.
Despite him being a rookie last year and getting off to a slow start, Cole had almost 800 yards receiving. If the local hacks are right, Cole's spot on the press conference rotation might be reflective of his favor with the organization. I would also say that Marrone's presss conference from the other day indicated he placed a big priority on availability. Moncrief has not been available for much of training camp so far.

The play on the field in preseason will make the decision clearer, but I don't think they'll hesitate to cut Mickens when the time comes.
I think Westbrook is probably an even better punt returner than Mickens given the chance, and the team has three other receivers with experience as returners. (Chark, Lee, Greene)
Mickens will have to outplay Greene at WR and PR to stick. As of now, that's an uphill battle. If Lazard gets in the mix then Mickens' chances get even slimmer.

I think Moncrief is a one year fully guaranteed deal.
That's why I was wondering if they would force him on the field... but then again, this staff doesn't seem the type to play the money...
I thought I heard he was doing really well in OTAs but if he's hurt already that doesn't bode well with his history lol Perhaps he's an injury settlement cut waiting to happen. (you don't IR guys on one year deal I dont think)

That shouldn't have ever been a "thing," IMO. If Lazard earns a spot (it's still a long shot, but if he does) they'll probably carry an additional WR at expense of TE slot. Most teams use another position for TE3 anyway (OL, FB, LB, etc.) on gameday.

It's easy to say/hope that Chark, Lee, or Greene could be the punt returner. The odds are that none of them will be as good as Mickens.
Right. But I believe Westbrook will be even better than Mickens. They couldn't risk him in that role last season as they were thin at WR and depending on him there, but he looked spectacular returning punts in pre-season (and in college of course.)
If the Jags WR corps enters the reg season healthy, they can afford to use Westbrook as a returner and not risk any drop-off if they have to part ways with Mickens.

(Emphasis added)
That's quite the statement considering Mickens had a PR for a TD and another where he was tackled at the 1 last year.
Do you think his success was more a function of the blocking?
Is the perception of Mickens' status as "expendable" shaped by the fact he was a mid season acquisition last year?
That said, if Westbrook ends up as the 3rd or more likely the 4th WR, yes, I could see him handling PR duty.
In fact, considering Lee, Westbrook, Greene and Chark could theoretically handle punt return duties at some point, Mickens has his work cut out for him.
Sad because he became a favorite of mine last year.
If he does end up getting cut, the good news for him is that those punt returns and his TD catches are on tape.
Nice little push off at the end.
Refs are there and didn't call it.

So much for possible issues cutting.
That was impressive.
Impressive slant by Chark against Ramsey. Only question for me there is that Ramsey didn't jam him at the LOS.
I wonder how Chark gets off the jam against a guy like Ramseyy.
DJ Chark vs Ramsey is the single greatest footage of training camp. Pretty pumped to see what he can do vs mortal beings.
Lazard killing it today on twitter.
Bortles also threw 2 picks in one series both to Bouye.
