He just needs to be as good as Gardner and Butler imo.

I guess all of Gene Smith's picks were steals to you then.

Picks in the 1st 3 rounds should be immediate contributors.

Wow, that's absolutely amazing that you would draw any correlation to Gene Smith.  Kinda [BLEEP] up, but nonetheless amazing.  Almost as amazing that you think he has to play like first rounder to be considered a steal.

Just some amazing and weird observations Dr. Einstein.
I swear people would think we won the draft every year if we just followed Mel Kipers board and picked the highest rated

He had an undrafted grade. A steal is getting a highly valued player for less than market value. Taylor was a steal, Williams won't be unless he plays better than a 3rd round grade.

His performance will help, but given the grades and other options available, it was a bad pick for the 3rd round. If other teams were truly interested, then maybe he goes round 5 or later.

Less risk in round 5 or later and you get a better player in round 3 also.

So if he plays like a 3rd round pick it was a bad pick?
Sorry, who gave him an undrafted grade? The media who stuff wrong all the time? The media who said Jawaan Taylor had a bad knee and weight issues in college which is why he fell?

You do know 'grades' from these talking heads are their opinions...right?

And  your assertion that third round picks should have some sort of immediate impact is ridiculous.  If that's the case, the vast majority of NFL GMs really suck.

So basically what you're saying is since you don't have somebody else telling you about a guy, he must not be any good.

Never mind.  Keep spazzing.

That same media who, for the majority, had mocked Taylor to us at 7 with like EVERY mock draft.  They get more stuff wrong than our beloved NFL GM's.  Bet dat!

I have no idea how they're gonna use the kid outside special teams this year, but I do know one thing:

I can't remember a Jags player who looked like he enjoyed taking players out of their cleats more than this kid since Donovin Darius.

Quote:Murray State NC Mitch Stewart believes Williams is a throw-back style player.

“The biggest thing when you watch his tape is he has what I call, old school contact courage,” Stewart said. “This kid has always been different in that he never stops on contact. He legitimately runs through you and I can’t think of very many times during the course of his career, no matter who we played, that he ever got knocked back.
“He has great closing speed. He closes on the ball tremendously well and I think that’s because he plays without caution and he never stops his feet on contact.”

1010XL - Ryan Green ^
He's going to be our Enforcer.

Yea he's going to draw flags - he's also going to make WRs and TEs who dare go in the middle alligator arm a lot of catches.

He didn't fall, the media-ites thought he could play LT and over-rated him. He's just a RT, so he went exactly where those guys go.

What? He absolutely fell.

Why does Dave feel like he got two first round talents if Taylor didn't fall?
There's an entertaining pre-draft interview of Quincy Williams out there. I'd post the link but the host uses a little bit of profanity and I'm not sure whether posting such a video would be against the rules. Host's name is Lefkoe and the interview shouldn't be too hard to find if interested. Host clearly didn't do his homework for the interview either just like the majority of TV talking heads.

The first right tackle off the board is usually somewhere in the late 20s. The fact is that there were very few Olinemen taken in the 1st round this year. In absolute terms the 1st pure Right Tackle was the 5th lineman taken, and that is usually how it goes in every draft. Taylor was over-rated by talkers who put too much emphasis on the Jaguars need and not enough on Taylor's actual value. Yes, he "fell" 10 spots or so from the usual 1st Right Tackle spot, but that isn't surprising with how few OLinemen were taken ahead of him.

Yes. That is surprising.

Dave and Tom were shocked he was still available in the 2nd round. I'm not sure how you can even argue that. Everyone (including the guys who selected him) were shocked he was there in the 2nd round.

He had multiple medical red flags at the combine which caused him to fall. He was never projected to play LT at any point in the process, even by the media talking heads.

The bookies also had him as the first lineman off the board throughout the process

Those medical reports were false. Caldwell stayed as such and Taylor was unaware of any issues when asked as well.

They didn't come out of thin air. He was flagged, it's up to each team to interpret the severity of those flags. Luckily for us we deemed it all okay

6 linemen went in the 1st this year, which is an above average amount. 4 tackles , a guard and a center

Doc Tony, a Jags fan filed those medical reports so we could get him in the 2nd round.
