Quote:It is way too early to predict that record.

In fact some coaches have kept their jobs through the end of the season after losing the first eight games. The Redskins, Chargers, and Dolphins did it. In 2008 the Lions coach quit after more than eight losses.

The Lions coach didn't quit in 2008.   Rod Marinelli was the HC all season.  He was fired after the season when Martin Mayhew was promoted from Interim G.M. to Full Time G.M.

The Lions coach that did quit during a season in the last 17 years was Bobby Ross when the team was 5-4 in the 2000 season.   That's when former Jags DC Gary Moeller became interm Lions  HC.

OK I knew somebody quit during a season. Thanks for the correction.

 My pleasure.
Let's look at highly improbable scenario. But not impossible.

Our division sucks. Any team could win division and go to playoffs with a losing record.

IF this team beats the colts for a division win, take their bye and somehow circle the wagons and pop off some wins???

My point being, before you load the flamethrowers, is one can't put a date on the firing.

Not saying he doesn't deserve it, and in all liklihood may get the ax.

But let's get through the next game first. A loss? Fire up the torches. A win, especially a decisive one, he doesn't get piss canned during bye week.

The problem Khan has is..who to bring in. What are their demands. Knowing a fan base doesn't want to hear, hang on folks, the team is learning a whole new system.

Ok. Coaching. Are there also legit concerns about BB regressing?

Guess I'm just trying to say, ok, fire Gus. 37 threads on the subject. Next.
Quote:Waiting till January 2nd concedes a lost season. I would lose a lot of respect for the front office if they don't have the stones to fire Bradley after the London game. You recognize that he's not good, why would you allow him to stick around and just fester? You also send the wrong message to the players.

Cut bait on October 4 is the only answer.

You don't fire him mid-season because you have nothing better to replace him.  Unless this staff can turn it around, it IS a lost season.
If we lose the next game, I don't really care if they fire Gus right then or wait to later.   But for all you who want to fire him now, please answer this question:

If we replace Gus in mid-season, what can a new coach accomplish that would turn the season around?   Do you really think we can change offensive and defensive schemes mid-season?   Do you really think firing Gus after game 4 would make Blake play better in game 5?

Firing Gus now just seems like a temper tantrum that would make some of the fans feel better, but what would it really accomplish?   We need a new coach with new assistant coaches and new offensive and defensive systems.   It can't be done mid-season.

We MIGHT be able to get better game/clock/timeout management...and we MIGHT be able to get better halftime adjustments...and we MIGHT be able to win some games.

Temper Tantrum? If this was after game 1... maybe. But he's been coaching for over 50 games. Some people realized early that he's trash while it took others this long to actually see it. So no... It's not a tantrum but you're treating it as one to make yourself look "rational."

What good does it do to keep him when you know he's not the man for the job? We KNOW what Gus can do as a HC. We don't know what Marrone or another assistant can do.

Who knows if it will make Blake play better but can he play worse? Who knows if the schemes will work but can they be worse? At this point, it doesn't matter who it is but it shouldn't be Gus. That's clear.

Firing Gus would give the franchise a head start in overhauling the culture and mindset of the locker room. The team will never win with Uncle Gussy's lovey dovey attitude. This team needs a coach, not a friend. Strategy, attention to detail, accountability instead of Gus's pseudo-motivational bull crap. The guy is a clown, and has said in the past that winning isn't the top priority. Any amount of time with him as the leader going forward, the team will continue to have a loser mindset.
Quote:Let's be honest.... You've never really had any faith in this organization.  At least - that's how your posts overwhelmingly read.

Why on earth should he have any faith in this organization???  This organization has been one of the worst if not THE worst in the entire NFL over the last decade.  They are a complete joke, and there is no way to say otherwise.

If we lose Sunday, how on earth is there any down side to firing Bradley immediately?  What is the worst that can happen?  We lose our next game?  oh no.... not more losses... there is no difference between 0-4 and 0-5... either way you are done.

What it does do is send a message to the team and fans that Gus's complete incompetence is not acceptable anymore, and changes are being made.  The upside is maybe it lights a fire with the team, and an interim coach can take over and make some well needed changes and maybe we start winning some games.  We clearly have more than enough talent to do so... Sadly, some of that talent is stuck on the bench like Jack for literally no sane reason.

anything is better than 0-4 ... anything, literally anything is better than Bradley's NFL worst record since taking over.  So yes, you do fire him mid season or now because he is the worst NFL coach in history

What harm can it do?  Answer that.  If the answer is, "well we lose the rest of our games", then what harm is that really?  We are on that pace anyways.

What it does do is offer SOME hope for the fanbase and the players... There is some unknown there, maybe it ignites the team and they start playing better... but what it does do is STOP THE INSANITY of doing the same thing over and over expecting different results that is CLEARLY not coming.
He'll be let go via a halftime text at the London game vs the Colts.

Thank god someone can think clearly

It also send the message that losing won't be tolerated for this franchise. They have given Gus everything a coach would need. Players, patience and time. He's done nothing with all 3.

LOL

Not to mention that we are 1-13 in September and 3-13 in October under the Dave/Gus regime.

I honestly didn't think there were people still on the Gus Bus.....

You clearly haven't read my other posts on the matter.

I'd explain thoroughly if I thought  it were worth the trouble.

Suffice it to say - Dave and Khan have done some good things.  The coaching staff have not. That's the crux of the matter. Saying the "organization"  unfairly leaves out some very good moves from the owner and GM.

Flame on....
Firing the head coach mid season does not change the development of the players or the team culture.

The rest of the coaching staff who are ingrained in the culture and are the ones who have the direct influence on development are still there.

You can't change the development or the culture until you have the chance to change the entire staff and that can't happen until the offseason.

All that firing a coach mid season does is temporarily placate the fan base.

Regardless of the type of work you are involved in, if the leader/manager/coach is not getting the results, you get rid of them as soon as it's 100% clear they are not part of the future.

You then put someone in charge (interim) and look for the right person to then take over. No one is expecting the team to turn around and win the SB.

My company wouldn't wait till the end of the fiscal year to fire me

if I wasn't getting the job done.
