Stop with the feelings. Who cares about them. Winning is all that matters and if Gus is fired, it's because he can't win with this team and it's the next man up.

I love these dissimilar analogies. My take on emotion has to do with play on the field by the players not empathy towards hiring or firing. So my point is whether it is business or not, emotion will impact the team moving forward and if there is no real gain, then what is the point? I don't disagree with you as much as you may believe. It is a performance based business and the HC is measured by W/Ls, but if the reality is there is no real change if he is fired mid-season. Once again, same scheme, same players, and the same assistants remain. Gus is gone, but the footprint stays. This is reality until a new HC is hired in the off-season.

 

I'll leave it at that. We both agree he should be gone, it's just we have different opinions on timing. I honestly don't care when, just that he needs to move along.

any rational person can see getting rid of the NFL's worst head coach in it's history, be fact, not opinion, is the best step to take for this team, and the sooner, the better

They SHOULD feel a certain way about how this team has performed. 

 

We're talking a 12-38 team, who is currently 0-3 and has lost, what... 8... 9 games in a row?

 

And you're concerned about their PRIDE!? They shouldn't HAVE any pride right now. 

 

 

You know what firing the coach Mid-Season does?  It sends 2 very clear messages.

 

1. Failure will not be accepted.  Get good, or get gone.

2. The Owner/GM are willing to make the tough choices required to improve this team.

 

If a player has some kind of meltdown because Gus gets let go, then that's a player that probably needs to follow him out the door.

You know what firing the coach Mid-Season does?  It sends 2 very clear messages.

I think if you hire the right guy, this team could be in the playoff hunt as early as next year.  The talent is there to make a run.  The coaching has become the impediment.

Because continuing to move forward with something that has proven, beyond any doubt, to have not worked, makes any sense?

 

12-38.  1-13 in September.  This isn't knee-jerk.  This is mercy after more than 3 years of losing, and losing BADLY.

 

Also, no one said "burn it all down".  If anything, it'll be one of the more sought after vacancies given the raw talent on the team, and the proven patience of the GM/Owner.

Imagine how they're going to feel after 13 more weeks of being laughed at as ACTUALLY worse than the Browns.

I don't follow the Bills too much, but I'd venture to guess that when Marrone coached them to 9-7 he wasn't preaching that "getting better" and "having fun" is more important than winning. Im sure Marrone never had a goofy dance celebration after a meaningless regular season win. Every week these players hear Gus and his loser talk. That's why this team loses, because their loser coach has created a culture where it's ok lose.

Completely agree. I believe this team is just a few pieces away. Of course I've had that feeling a few times. First time in quite a few years I find myself contemplating other activities come game day, but still throw myself out there.

Where do you get the feeling I want Gus to stay? This was about now or later. Try and keep up.

Prediction: This team gets hot starting this week, finishes 9-7, and wins the division via tiebreaker over Houston. Gus and Dave eventually both get 3 year extensions, giving them 4 more years having one left on their current deals. So in response to the question my answer is Gus will end up getting extended Not fired. Time to get a win this week, Go Jags!

Not going to say it couldn't happen, but please NO on the extension.

Why wouldn't you extend them if they win the division and take giant strides in the right direction?

Not necessarily them, just the HC. He is a know entity. One decent year in a mediocre division doesn't erase the many poor before that occurred before. I truly believe it is time to move on.

There's no option for "last January."

In reality, the odds are better that the current head coach turns things around vs the intern coach.

 

Firing the current coach is nothing more than people feeling that they are punishing someone in order t make them feel better about themselves.

I don't understand why people think firing the coach mid season will make things better.

 

The last time we fired a coach mid season, we followed that up the next year with the worst record in franchise history.

 

I am not saying I support Gus, I am just saying that people who believe that firing a coach mid season leads to improvement are misguided.Things can actually get worse as proven by our own experience.

 

The wisest thing to do is give these guys a chance to show resolve, and if they can't you effect the change in the offseason when you can make the type of change that actually matters.
