Yikes, I pray that you are never put in a position of power over anyone ever.

Intelligence is what matters. And the players do not possess that.
Paying Yan DE3 money Vs DE7 money functionally means nothing to the Jags ability to sign and resign players + in the coming years that deal will eventually get better and better.

Wrong! There's no way we could pay Allen in 4 years!
Lets say DE3 money is 21 milion....and that DE7 money is 18 million.

If you think Yannick is completely fine at an 18 million mark....what is that extra 3 million helping us do this year and next year? Especially considering we will have plenty of cap available in both years

The answer is nothing that we couldn't already do. Then after that Yans contract will be closer to the DE7/8 range anyway
Yann isnt getting more than 14 a year, nor is he worth more than that.

When I hire people I don't put much in the interview process - I give them an IQ test - if they score below triple digits they don't get to speak with me.

Do you think he's better than Carlos Dunlap?

WHAAAA????

You crazy man...

OMG you are such a hater!! Yann is elite, prove me wrong!!!!!!

I'd give him 16 million per year max, anything above that would be a waste.
Going off of Yans twitter he is gone. We will get a nice 3rd round comp pick. Think about this, he had a down year in a contract year. He still played well, but is he really the answer if he wants 18 mil or more a year? I’d say no. Tag and trade or just take the comp pick.

Letting Yan just walk away into free agency for a 3rd round comp pick would be the most Jaguars thing ever.

Dumb dumb dumb

Agreed. You tag him at the minimum. He either plays or doesn't get paid, gets paid or gets traded away for more value. They can tag him again in 2021.

I would like for him to remain here. We'll see how Caldwell manages this situation now with Tom out of the picture.

Hopefully a deal is struck either way via trade or extension before the draft though. Otherwise names like Yetur Gross-Matos & A.J Epenesa will start coming up a lot when the 9th pick rolls around.

It's a shame that this team has a potential Dwight Freeney & Robert Mathis combination on their hands between Yannick Ngakoue & Josh Allen and they're on the verge of losing it. The only thing better than having one solid pass rusher is having as many as you can possibly afford and fit onto your active roster.

I am going to be honest here, i dont really know what to make of that comment.  My first thought is he is kind of coming off as bit of a jerkwad.

All of his tweets are directed at the team in an  #SmartAss way. In my opinion he feels that he will have the Jaguars eating out of his hand or he'll go elsewhere to play.

I say SLAP his [BLEEP] w/that franchise tag if he tries to break the bank and draft his replacement early this year.

Time Will Tell.

NH3...
A couple of notes for those that haven't followed Yan's career closely:

1. He has been described in lockstep by players, coaches, and anyone who covers the team as a consummate pro and ideal teammate and competitor. Literally the only people I've ever seen question him or his character that way were a few dimwits here or on twitter/SM. The dude has been a pro's pro since day one in the league.

2. His twitter account is not telling you anything right now. He tweets cryptic and existential content all the time and you'd be unwise to assume he isn't open to getting paid right by the Jags based upon his recent tweets.

3. Players negotiate and hold out to maximize that second contract regularly now. It's usually the biggest payday they'll see in their entire career and can set them (and their family) up for life if they get it right. He's doing just that right now. He's going to get more than he's worth. Might be in Jax, might be elsewhere.

Exactly... we hold the power. If he absolutely refuses to play for us we tag and trade at bare minimum but only for a first rounder imo.
But I highly doubt Yan is going to refuse a tag and not play in 2020 at all just to play hard ball on contract. I think he'd play on the tag and drive his price higher.
How often has a player skipping a whole season happened... like 5 times ever? Bell being the only one since 98. I really don't think it worked that great for him.
Clowney I suppose was going to but they tagged and traded him. Though BoB didn't get proper value imo. We can not settle the way Houston did.

What the tinhorns did with Clowney was shady though. They tagged him as a outside linebacker because it was more pricey to pay him tagged as a defensive end. Yet the year leading up into that situation clearly showed he took a heavy, heavy amount of snaps at defensive end. It wasn't even close.

They were trying to save something to the tune of like $3M - $5M there on that difference in position. So I understand why he did what he did. Bell didn't work out. I think the Steelers did the right thing parting ways with Bell and Brown while they could. After seeing how Brown has crumbled mentally and Bell not really looking too good in New York the Steelers continue to show why they're a class act Franchise.

I think they'll be back in the play off hunt personally after another draft and fully recovered Roethlisberger in the picture.

But I agree. Yannick doesn't come off as the type to sit for long. He didn't do it last summer. I don't think he'll do it for long this summer. He's a great teammate and locker room guy. He'll inevitably get paid. And rightfully so. Just hope it's here in Jacksonville and not elsewhere.
He did decline the 18 million contract last year because of length?
Considering they tried before and couldn’t get it done, I’m not optimistic. They really need to keep him. As far as his tweets, I’m reading between the lines. He doesn’t sound like a guy that wants to be here. If that is the case, it sucks to draft some really good talent and lose them. Him, ramsey and Telvin. Even though Telvins situation is different. But JR is a [BLEEP], telvin is Either mental or a drug dealer, So who knows.

We got zero details about the structure or guarantees so there's really nothing to go off. Just a rumour thin of actual details that matter
