There are really only 2 scenarios imo. Either we keep him as a backup to Minshew or we hope a contending team loses their QB and wants a proven vet to take over their team as opposed to an unproven backup.
What would happen if the Jags came out and said Minshew is the starter and Dobbs is the backup. Foles wants to start could both sides cancel the contract making him a FA without us taking a hit on the cap? That would help us and help him get a better chance to start.

#1 -- placing Foles 3rd on the QB depth chart kills any trade value that he may currently have since other teams know you just want to dump him
#2 -- Foles would never cancel his contract since no other team would even come close to paying him $17 million. I think his value may be closer to $8 million so he's not going to take a $9 million dollar pay cut just to go to another team.

Foles would have to be an idiot to do anything other than show up, grin and bear the knowledge that he is the mostly highly-paid backup QB ever and there's nothing the Jaguars can do about it. Then collect his millions, enjoy taking a season off, more or less, to heal up and be ready to go start somewhere else when the Jaguars cut him next March.

I agree. Someone brought this up in the news recently with the "what if" Foles doesn't want to be the back-up. Citing he wanted to be a starter elsewhere, etc.
I don't buy that. After his stint in Kansas City he was ready to hang it up and retire. He caught his second wind in Philadelphia and flipped it to a nice contract. If he was smart, and same goes for his agent, just ride this [BLEEP] show out in 2020. When he's released in 2021 he can easily point and blame the piss poor ownership and management of this front office as to why things didn't work out.
Easy to do. Just show up. Shut up. And do your job as a back-up. He is who we all thought he was. He knows it. We all know it. He got a lucky pay day. Good for him.

The most likely scenario is a team with either question marks at QB or who want to double down while competing trade for Foles as he'd be cheap , can be cut easily next year and has great experience in the backup role while also showing he can pinch hit.

I think he stays. He will be cheap enough and one of the best backups in the league. Plus he will probably be pretty hard to trade unless an ideal scenario comes about.
That being said, I suspect Minshew much better fits what Gruden wants to do and Gruden will buckle down on it come training camp.

That's the only likely landing spot for him. But I don't see them asking for Foles until they know they have to move on from Trubisky mid season. Whether that's due to injury or performance issues will remain to be seen of course. The NFC North is an interesting division when you consider Rodgers is not getting any younger. The Lions are always the Lions. And the Vikings are pretty inconsistent.
In fairness to Trubisky though. They weren't able to really run the football well. And teams tee'd off on him in the passing game.

You're probably correct- he would make all this money without further injuring his body leading to a better quality of life after football. However, that just isn't how he is built and his highly competitive nature would never allow this to happen. I would love the trade, however. Getting an extra 2nd rounder would give the Jags 5 premium picks in rounds 1 and 2 if they are able to trade Yannick.
