Yes, and it's stupid that our coaches dont get that.

DeFilippo gave him a lead blocker on a pretty healthy amount of snaps.
He literally ignored where his lead blocker went on 20-25% of those snaps.
I saw Swaim and Seth DeValve throw some pretty good blocks for him to absolutely no avail.

I'm not saying a stud FB or H-Back wouldn't help him get that first crease at times, but I think there's more at play here than "27 needs a lead blocker."  The OC needs to use 27 in a way that his carries are not telegraphed to defenses pre-snap.   Flip didn't do that enough.  When the LBs and SS are all licking their chops to shut down an early down run they know beyond doubt is about to happen, a lead blocker isn't going to change much.

Flip literally had one play on first down that involved passing out of a power run set.  2 receivers on go-routes.
Meh. Not difficult enough to defend.

Our best hope for Fournette being more effective on early down runs rests in Gruden's ability to disguise and vary his playcalling. A lead blocker may help, but I find that need secondary to this need for the use of multiple looks on early downs. This whole "we're gonna run up the gut, and we dare you to to stop it" thing needs to come to a screeching halt.  (especially in the redzone) It's been a mainstay with multiple coordinators under Marrone and it has failed IMO.

I do agree you have to have a good play action passing game if you are going to have a power running game. You have to have a treat of the pass if they stack the box. If Flip didn't do that, then that is a fail as an OC.

Well, that's actually a caption under my name but it's probably been too difficult for you to figure out how to change it.

And since Rico is a username and is in essence a nickname...never mind....  I don't want to go over your head.
