I think Hodges ends up at that RG and Scherff is gone.

I agree - but I hope there is a new name at center in 2024

Also hinges on salary cap and getting Cleveland a new deal within that

It’s a rental, and then we have to find a way to resign him if he plays well.

Maybe the Vikings just didn’t want or didn’t think they could re sign him so they decided to trade him away now and recoup some value.

They signed Risner off the street and slid him into Cleveland's spot last week while Cleveland was banged up. Must have decided that they could keep Risner around cheaper - or they liked him better.
Cleveland was drafted under the Zimmer staff, not the current one.

I second this motion, but am intrigued by the possibilities. I have not seen an update on him, so assume the injury was worse than expected.

Pretty sure he didn’t even play that game.
I see that alot of our Jaguar Fans continues to wants Cam out and Little in at the LT position. SMDH. Cam has proven his worth to say the least. If Little was better than Cam at the position he'd be playing the position when healthy. As for Cleveland, an bi-week and his toe injury won't be enough time for him to become an immediate starter unless there's an injury on the OL. He'll be an back up until he's acclimated to our system even though our OL coach has coached him.

Time Will Tell.

As much as I'd love this...I like Scheriff as a backup interior lineman.

Trade feels like a steal though.

There are five starting positions.  Little, Robinson and Harrison aren't going to be on the bench if healthy.    Scheriff/Shatley and hopefully Fortner will need to play better if they want to be on the field.

The issue with Cam, besides Little being just as good or possibly better, is money. His cap hit is WAY too high. If he restructures, then sure keep him.
Only cost us a 6th from what I saw. Backup, potential starter for injury, good signing.

Gonna have to cut good players with high salaries to sign Trev, Cisco, Allen, and now possibly Cleveland

Exactly.  Gotta save money for Lawrence and Allen somewhere.
(10-31-2023, 04:19 PM)NYC4jags Wrote: [ -> ]If he plays well, it would be worth signing him to a 4 year deal in the offseason

Scherff is one year older, pricey and we have no LG lined up for next year

Scherff will be 32 in December while Cleveland is 25. Scherff likely would have been gone next year anyway. Cleveland's extension will not be cheap, but we all know how critical it is to have a dependable offensive line protecting your franchise quarterback. Another good thing about Cleveland is that he played left tackle at Boise and would be capable of filling in at that position in case of an injury to Little or Harrison next season. Even if Cleveland is given an extension, the Jaguars would have to consider adding another interior lineman in the 2024 draft- preferably a center. Fortner could be kept as a backup at guard and center. Imagine a line of:

Walker Little.   Ezra Cleveland.   Sedrick Van Pran.    Cooper Hodges.   Anton Harrison

Hodges is still a projection, but this line could give Lawrence the protection he needs for several years. This team has not had a great offensive line for many years,
but I believe this group would have the possibility of achieving just that.

That's why he is a fan fav right now.  Once he plays, we'll be criticizing him and questioning why we wasted the 226th pick in the draft on him !!!
On the Vikings board, they're saying he's solid in pass protection, not so good run blocking

I'm sure he'll be happy to be playing on grass instead of turf

Yes there are. Issue is after the season is in full swing one or more of them is nicked up and playing when maybe they shouldn't. I like the flexibility....

I agree with this, and I think Cam can play even better.  I do think that there is no drop off from CAM to Little though.    Depth at LT is a good thing to have.
This is an upgrade in talent to the offensive line. I think he ultimately wins the LG position, but am very intrigued with his athletic profile.

I’m curious to see what happens with Bartch.

I think that Hodges is being groomed as an IOL backup and will compete with Shatley next year.
We needed help at Oline. I'm happy with the pickup as not sure what was about. I'd have liked some help on Dline but the price was high and would have caused issues in the summer with the cap.

Not surprised to see Bartch go. He's had plenty of opportunities but continued to struggle and was probably going in the offseason.

I'd like to see a guard and center darfted in the 2024 darft for good measure. This season has proven that the interior line can't be neglected just because a center was previously darfted (too high).
