Lex Luthor was absolutely terrible.

It's DC trying to catch up to Marvel and doing a terrible job. You can't make up all that time between Iron Man, which came out eight years ago, and all the Marvel movies since then. It just won't work. But don't tell that to DC. They don't care and it's sad because I think there are interesting stories to tell and it's already on a bad path. Wonder Woman looks interesting so I guess we'll see what happens from there. 

I took my niece and nephew to go see Rogue One. I really liked it. They did a great job with all the minor details of the film, so it takes you right up to where A New Hope begins. It did a beautiful job filling in some of the blanks and although it wasn't quite as exciting as some of the other Star Wars films, I thought this one was probably the most well put together movies in the franchise. If you're a Star Wars fan or even if you saw the very first film back in the late 70's, I highly recommend you see Rogue One. 

 

 

I watched Unforgiven last night. I haven't seen it in a long time and forgot how good it was. You know, back before Hollywood started pandering to teenagers and all the crap started hitting theaters. There was a time when there were movies coming out one right after the other that was worth seeing at the theater. Now I'm waiting for them to come out on DVD or Netflix more often than not.

Not on Netflix. Yesterday was the last day on there. I'm sure it will come back around. Or there are other ways to see it. I loved Eastwood and Freeman playing off each other. 

Has anyone else seen the trailer for the new Baywatch movie? It looks to be as ridiculous as I think they're trying to make it be. I'd post a link but you know where to find it. And the one I saw violates at least one CoC here with language. 

 

I love Dwayne Johnson but this is just crazy. I guess he's likeable enough and has made enough money that he's not concerned with the 'hit' to his career. I can't see another actor being able to pull this off and not get the stink eye from future employers.

I watched the Blair Witch sequel/remake last night. Terrible.


Watched The Guest tonight. Better in a Stranger Things homage type of way.

I figured a re-make of the Blair Witch would be really bad. What made the original so good was the hand held, shaky cam type of documentary style film making that it used. At the time that was really original, but once Hollywood realized how cheap it was to make a film that way, everyone and their brother adopted the same style. Now the market is flooded with those types of movies and people are sick of them. If I never see another hand held, shaky cam type film, it'll be too soon.

I've been leaning towards watching The Guest I just had not made up my mind about it. With the Stranger Things homage I will definitely check it out.

Yeah I'm not much of a fan of it anymore either. Unfortunately that gripe took a backseat to the story and plot in general haha.

Sully - decent enough.

Ghostbusters (new) - surprisingly enjoyable.

The Campaign - funny.

Sausage Party - made it 15 minutes in, just awful.

Pretty much.

We watched Sully last week and I liked it. It wasn't mind blowing, but I enjoyed it for what it was. I like Tom Hanks and Aaron Eckhart and of course Clint Eastwood directing is always a pleasure to watch.

 

Patriot's Day- One of those times when you know where you were when [BLEEP] went down. My mom actually texted me in passing about it saying it was a shame about what happened at the Boston Marathon. I was like- what?! Turned on the TV (back when we still had directv) and there is was. They did well in showing how they used cameras in the area to track the jackholes down to ID them. And kudos to the Chinese kid [spoiler]who escaped and told police about them, foiling their plan to get to NY[/spoiler]. All in all I liked it pretty well. I don't know if Mark Wahlberg was overacting or, because his character was a composite of several real life people involved, he seemed a bit haywire. But still a decent performance. 

 

Deepwater Horizon- Another one that you remember where you were when it happened. That was so long ago now I had forgotten a lot of details. What a horrific thing to happen and all because BP wanted to cut costs. I remember seeing no cars at BP stations in Jacksonville after it happened. I enjoyed seeing Kurt Russell on screen again. Mark Wahlberg hasn't impressed me since Lone Survivor and The Departed and didn't really impress me here until the third act (though he was decent in Patriot's Day).

I liked Sausage Party and The Campaign, but I hated the new Ghostbusters. One of the worst films I've ever seen. I had to turn it off halfway through. The writing and dialogue was cheesy and stupid.

That's fair enough.. I found nothing redeeming about Sausage Party, but hey, I don't like Seth Rogen... at all.

I'm not a fan of Seth Rogen either. I just like perverted humor. The idea of a Pixar like adult cartoon, just won me over. In fairness, it wasn't nearly as good as I was expecting it to be, but I still enjoyed it. This movie was specifically targeted at people who enjoys shows like South Park. If people don't like South Park, then Sausage Party probably won't be an enjoyable experience. 

I re-watched "Trouble with the Curve", last night.
