Actually got around to watching American Gangster today, how have I never seen it before? Decent movie.

Unfortunately, I thought it was pretty average.

Compared to the Superman films and Batman vs. Superman, it was like an academy award winner. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was, a huge step up for the D.C. franchise. They just need to cut ties with Zack Snyder. I don't know why they've given him so many chances.

I'm gonna try to get around to watching Logan in the next few days. I've had it here for well over a month and haven't had time to watch it. I hear great things about it though.

Haha, in comparison, I guess I’d agree.

FWIW, I felt similarly about Logan all though I think it was better than WW.

Logan is in a league of it's own. It's definitely a darker film compared to the previous X-Men films, but according to many it's a much more accurate depiction of who the Logan character is even if they are showing him in his older years. Evidently he was always meant to be this.....salty, but they couldn't do his character that way and keep it a PG-13 movie. After watching it I understand why.

I liked WW just because. She's always been a favorite of mine and I'm glad a female comic character got a movie of her own and was able to do well with it. I was not sure about Gal Gadot playing the character but I got over it. The movie isn't the greatest ever, but I was happy with it.
I finally found some time to sit down and watch a couple of movies. Logan is a film I've had on my Netflix que for months and I finally completed it. While I really liked the movie, I didn't see it as the masterpiece many people told me it was. The acting was great and the story was very good, but this film just seemed to crop up out of nowhere. To me, it seemed like there should have been a film before this one, to get us to the current place. This story begins with basically 3 of the original X-Men left alive, but we get no real backstory on what happened to the rest of the group other than eluding to something where they might've been hunted down and killed. It's very vague though. It just seems like there should've been an entire film dedicated to the fall of the X-Men, before Logan was released. I also knew this was gonna be a depressing film, which was fine, but geez,...... it's very dark. I remember the X-Men films being a fun PG-13 kind of ride. Not this one. It's a hard R with gore, violence, a lot of profanity and very depressing themes. I don't have a problem with any of that stuff at all, but it just seems like a sharp detour from what X-Men fans are used to and there was no easing us in. Anyway, it was still a good movie and I will recommend it.

I then watched Wind River. It was a really good movie. It's a fairly simple and straight forward film with excellent acting, a very good script and superb directing. It's about a fish and game wildlife manager who assists a young FBI agent on a murder investigation. It takes place on an Indian Reservation in Wyoming during the dead of winter. The atmosphere is almost haunting and the themes and symbolism in the film are something that should be discussed a lot more often. In my opinion, this was one of the best films I had seen all year.

My favorite movie ever: Cool Runnings
Saw Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle last night..

Pleasantly surprised.

Also, Karen Gillan is smoking hot.
Just finished watching the original version of The Manchurian Candidate again. It's been quite a few years since I saw it last. Damn what a good movie. It also reminded me why I don't watch movies at home. A two and a half hour movie took 4 hours to finish because of constant interruption.
Yesterday I watched Dunkirk. It wasn't my selection, but I watched it anyway. It was o.k. the back and forth storyline with Cillian Murphy's character was kinda confusing, but the cinematography was one of the best I've ever seen and kept me interested. It was better than I thought it would be, but still not my taste.

Technically not a movie, but the GODLESS miniseries on Netflix was bingeworthy.
I streamed The Dark Tower recently. It wasn't the total train wreck I expected but it will still pretty bad, lol. I'll give it limited props for great special effects and I think both of the leads are decent actors and did the best they could given the writing. Maybe one day somebody will do it right; I've heard they're trying to make a series out of it and that should work better.
I just got done watching The Autopsy of Jane Doe. It was a very interesting twist on the horror genre. Not your typical fare. I really enjoyed the story line and how the events unfolded. The acting was good and although there wasn't a ton of dialogue, the eerie mood of the film set things up rather well. If you like horror and you're looking for something a bit different, give this one a try. It was worth the watch.

I went and saw Jumanji tonight. I wasn't expecting much, since I'm not a fan of Dwayne Johnson and I hate Jack Black. Surprisingly, I liked it though. Johnson wasn't too annoying and Black was actually good in the role he had and made me laugh more than once. Kevin Hart was the funniest character though and made the film very enjoyable for me. Granted, I didn't see many comedies last year, but I gotta say, Jumanji was one of the funniest films of 2017 that I saw.

I watched Dunkirk the other day on BluRay.  It seems like the movie is mostly a big sham.  Just  look at the user reviews on IMDB and they are mostly negative, yet it's one of the GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME.

The positives are that the movie really does look good, and it's good at immersing you in the time period, plus the dogfighting scenes cool.

But there is so much wrong with this movie.  Or at least there are some very unexpected things.  First of all the musical score is frustrating.  I hardly ever even think it, but the first thing I remember is wishing the music would just stop.  Did Hans Zimmer even watch the movie?  Then there is the weirdness of it being extremely ungraphic to the point where it seemed G rated. The characters were irrelevant.  The leading characters may as well have been extras.  And I really don't have even a faint impression of what the movie was about after watching it.  I feel like nothing really happened in the movie.    I don't even remember the ending.

I did enjoy watching the movie, but at the same time, I feel like the more awards Hollywood gives it the less credibility they have.

While it was an o.k. film, it certainly does not deserve the accolades it seems to be getting. Other than the cinematography, it is a pretty boring film and like you said, not much happens. To be honest, I don't even remember the musical score. I do remember at the beginning of the film, as the bombs were dropping and men were getting "blown up" when the showed the bodies on the beach, they all seemed to be in tact. No missing limbs, no blood, no nothing. it just looks like a lot of guys fell down and went to sleep. That was pretty ridiculous.

Such a great movie. And based on some real life stuff too.
Denzel is one of my favorite actors.

AMEN! Amazing.

Also binge worthy netflix is Black Mirror. Crazy technological trippy twilight zone type show. The seasons don't tie in together, so you can watch them in any order. And the episodes are stand alone as well, so those too can be played in any order.

Recent movie I've seen: The Big Short, awesome movie about the housing bubble crisis.

My favorite movie ever is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Love Fear and Loathing, almost tops Natural Born Killers and Pulp Fiction
Anyone else here a fan of Coen brothers films? I got my first exposure to them with Blood Simple around 1990. I pulled it off the shelf at the video rental store (remember those?) because it looked kind of interesting. I loved it, like almost all of their other films. Another one of their little known films is A Serious Man. I watched it on a long overseas flight, and like Blood Simple, it stuck with me. Dem boys be good.

I think some of their work is pure genius. On the other hand, some of it is over my head I guess.

Genius in my opinion are easily "Raising Arizona". "Fargo", "The Big Lebowski", "Millers Crossing" and "No Country For Old Men". The "not genius" is mostly everything else, although there are a handful I haven't seen yet including "Blood Simple" and "A Serious Man".

One thing is for sure, the Coen brothers and John Turturro were a mutually beneficial relationship.
