I'm pretty much staying indoors today, not up to snuff.. So I decided to watch a few Stephen King movies..

I know Stephen King gets a ton of flack about his movies, but I don't know, I guess I kinda like the 'Campiness' (sp?)

Starting off with Sleepwalkers, then later on, may go Tommyknockers!

Great books, btw!

He has said before that people takes his novels and the movies based off them are crap(Well except for The Shining though did change some things from the book). He likes that money though lol.

Will say 'Thinner' was creepy as f though. I think he wrote that under his pen name however but still him of look at it that way.
The first miniseries of The Stand was pretty awesome. The remake sucked so hard and King was part of the process. I lost a little respect for him.

King wants movies to closely follow his books. The problem is movies don’t have the time to accurately portray what he sees in his head. Plus they always take artistic license.

The Shining is a perfect example. He loathed the Stanley Kubrick interpretation when in fact it was one of the rare occasions when the movie was better than the book. He eventually had the movie remade to his liking and it bombed.

It breaks my heart they ruined The Stand. That was a good movie which tried to stay faithful to the book and it worked out. The problem with Hollywood today is they’ve run out of new ideas so they remake old classics and proceed to utterly destroy them. It’s the same with network TV. How many shows are on the air now which are retreads? Likewise, they destroy the legacy of those shows. Gratuitous sex, violence, inane dialogue and abundant overuse of CGI is the new recipe for show business today.

Thinner was great! Movie & Book..

In the movie, the Gypsy woman was pretty hawt!

"Die clean, white man from town.. Die clean!"

Great books neither really worked as movies, especially Tommyknockers which was an unmitigated disaster.

I like campy unless it's unintentional. It's a fine line, I know.

He's had some pretty decent ones though, you have to admit.. I mean, we all know about The Shining, but a few others sometimes fail to be mentioned.

Carrie
Cujo
Christine
The Mist
Children of the Corn
Hearts in Atlantis
The Green Mile
The Shawshank Redemption (arguably one of the best movies made)
IT (New or Old)

Dude had a lot of really good movies. Yeah, we all know that the book is better than the film, but dude hit it out of the park on a lot..

I just don't know how he can go from Carrie to Creepshow lolol..

Loved both Creepshows, btw.. I still lol when I see Leslie Nielsen (Frank Drebbon) play the antagonist lol

I cry watching The Green Mile. A fantastic movie.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, I am a fan of King. And when his movies work they are fantastic like The Green Mile and Shawshank. But the issue comes in a lot of times when they translate the story either too literally or too loosely. It's gotta hit right in the sweet spot. I'm watching Liseys Story right now which is an exception.
OK, I'm pushing 62 years old now, and I've seen a lot of movies of all types. Sci-Fi, mysterys disaster, comedys, you name it. But I think the 2 most thought provoking and powerful scenes that I have ever watched have to be these 2.......

The ending of The Deer Hunter, when everyone is gathered together after Nick's funeral and they start singing God Bless America

Then there is the ending to Heat, Those 2 men may have been on opposites sides of the law but.... they had more in common then they ever knew

ANyway, that's my 2 cents worth on movies.........
Watching a really old favorite that just popped up on Netflix that I haven’t seen in YEARS.

The Birds.

Also noticed that the original Psycho has been added. I’m not 100% sure I’ve ever seen that from start to finish.  That’ll be tomorrow night.
I watched "A. I. Artificial Intelligence" last night, which is a Spielberg film from 2001.  It was originally developed by Stanley Kubrick, but he gave the project to Spielberg, and after Kubrick died, Spielberg made the movie.

I didn't like it.  It was very long, mostly boring, but the worst thing about it was that it was like half-dog, half-cat, in that parts of it are dark, like a Kubrick film, and parts of it are sweet, like some Spielberg films.  It's very well made, but it needs to decide what it wants to be- a dark, dystopian horror movie, or something that looks like it's a future ride for kids at Disney World.  And the music by John Williams was too noticeable.

Your review of it is exactly what critics thought of it back in 2001.
So my wife is a good sport.. She doesn't care what movies I put on at night, even though I'm a horror movie fan and we watch a ton of them.

So last night, she told me that she wanted to watch a movie. Knowing that this sweet, little woman of mine, sits through countless hours of Saw movies, Halloweens, Exorcists and all the blood, guts and gore in between, I look at her and say "Of course, whatever you want to watch I'm game for", with a huge smile on my face..

Then she put on 80 for Brady and I just wanted to puke.. But I didn't say a word and pretended to be interested. If she can endure all of my horror garbage, I can man up and dry heave my way through that for her.

It was very difficult..
You're a good man for doing that, Winger. My husband "watches" the occasional home renovation show I put on when he's around. Home Town, Fixer Upper, Good Bones. He doesn't hate them but I know they're not his favorite. The funny thing is when he says it's okay for me to pull one up so he can relax. Lol. It doesn't happen often and the first time he said it I was looking for a thermometer to see if he had a fever.

The renovation shows aren't bad, and I'm ok with the occasional rom-com, but I still can't stomach the Lifetime Movie Network, and I've tried. Truly awful TV. I just head for the other room when she's watching that stuff.

Dude.. I've seen every Lifetime Movie ever made. Let's sum this up..

Suzy meets a guy.
Suzy gets stalked.
Suzy shoots the stalker.

The End..

Hallmark movies are much better!
