Quote:Apparently, some kids at Emory University were "scared" and "in pain" over some chalk markings on their campus that said "Trump 2016" and "Build The Wall".  I even saw one report that said that "emergency counseling" was being brought in for those students that were "traumatized".  Some say that they don't feel safe.  Really?

Some of the students are arguing that the writings were not in fact free speech or part of a campaign.  Instead they should be classified as "hate speech".

AP News Story

CBS News Story

Washington Post <-- this one is pretty good.

What is scary enough is the fact that these kids are allowed to vote.  What is even more scary is that these little cupcakes are the future of our country.

Ohes NOESz!!!Angry!#@!#%$!!!!!!1!!!!11!1!!!!

Some college kids are doing something!!!!@!!!11111!!!  Our country is in jeapordy!!!!

Dude, aren't you the guy that was all blase' about the frat that was making lewd comments during rush week?  And now this stupid article is having you worried about the future of our country?

It seems like your feigning outrage one one side becuase you harbor a serious hatred for all thing "liberal".
Building a wall has nothing to do with race. That is an irrational projection.

El choppo reportedly snuck into the us twice while on the lamb. That kind of security failure doesnt benefit anyone.

All this crap about coded dog whistle language translates into "the left can take literally anything you say and purport it to be paraphrased from mein kempf"
This is a laughable attempt to restrict free speech by a handful of weak minded students who are also lacking any eveidence of personal intestinal fortitude. The only scary part about this whole affair is that the school administration and media are even paying attention to them and... (this is the really scary part) these kids are allowed to vote.

It's not the whiny kids who are the problem, it's the institutional controls who respond to them with tyrannical actions that are the problem. As with all such issues the real problem are the enablers.

There is a difference between a joke made on private property and liberal attempts to silence free speech.

Here is a petition that some of these little snowflakes are passing around.  Is it political expression or "hate speech"?

Why are you stalking college student facebook posts?

Seriously?  It's college...  Wasn't that your whole arguement?  Now it's different because it goes against your own idealism?  Come on, dude.

Besides, how is this exactly an affront on Free Speech.  Whoever it is your stalking doesn't seem to want to silence the person or persons that wrote these things.  Just that he was expressing his disapproval of the message.

Condemning a message is not even close to silencing it, or even creating a posse of pitchfork weilders to attack anyone who may have written such message.

You seriously are reaching.  Maybe chill out and stop worring about what college kids are doing on campus.  LOL.

I wonder, what was the message of the college?  Are they going to prosecute to the full extent of the law those "vandals"?  Or was this just some college message that happens in college?

You know?  College?  Remember that?  It's been a while for you, but relax...  The USA isn't on the verge of destruction.  Unless you listen to Glen Beck, then head for the hills!!!!
Buncha' sniveling cowards!  Emory needs a sensory awareness intervention unit on campus.*

Did you read any of the articles?  The photo above is from one of them.  My comment regarding free speech and silencing it is in reference to the above petition.  I'll type a direct quote from it for you slowly so that perhaps you might get the idea.

Quote:

"Some students have asserted that this is an expression of free speech, or simply campaigning for a presidential candidate, and should therefore not be condemned.  However, we firmly believe that this has far exceeded what can reasonably be considered simply an expression of political support".

...

"This is not political expression; this is hate speech".

Calling something "hate speech" is the way that people are silenced.  Next these little dumplings will want to ban any political message that doesn't support Bernie Sanders because you know, he promises them free stuff.

Remember, these little tarts can vote.
Are you implying they shouldn't be allowed to vote?

Quote:Are you implying they shouldn't be allowed to vote?

Not at all.  I'm simply pointing out how stupid and immature people are allowed to vote.  That's scary.

I use those terms because if the mere sight of "Trump 2016" is considered an "attack" and they "no longer feel safe" on campus because of it, then they don't have a whole lot going on upstairs.

Once the words are classified as "hate speech" then they will, according to most University speech codes, become bannable.

Yeah, but let's not go crazy here.  Nobody has classified them as such.  So why are we freakin' out about something that hasn't happened.  I think certain conservatives have gotten so scared so often about things that still haven't happened that they are just becoming hypersensitive and suspect to fear mongering.

Certain conservatives just need to chill the heck out.
I can't believe I have to be the voice of reason for you conservatives.  Seriously.

If you want to freak out about stuff, worry about the fact that the Trans Pacific Partnership is about to reduce the labor market even more.  Or how about the fact that all we are doing is perpetrating an enviornment where more wars are bound to happen.

I mean, seriously.  There's some stuff going on that should be freaking us all out.

I've recommended a book on here before and have a digital copy that I'm willing to loan to anyone interested in reading it.  It's called "The Silencing" by Kirsten Powers, a staunch liberal.  She basically describes exactly what we are seeing regarding the topic of this thread.
Maybe the students are afraid because they have been raised in a society where everything is scary and going to lead to the destruction of the nation and our civilization.

To be fair, in the last 8 years alone, there have been more than a few times when we have been told that the current president was going to destroy America.  Perhaps having grown up in such paranoid times, the idea of a Trump presidency has colored their views.

That could certainly be a part of it.  I also think that social media and the internet plays a big role as well as the idea that "everybody wins" or gets a "participation trophy".  I think that kids growing up are not allowed to fail or lose and learn from it.  From what I've seen, kids are shielded from adversity and are not challenged.

Education (or lack thereof) certainly plays a huge role in that.  Kids having trouble making the grade?  Just lower the bar and pass them along.  I personally see it not only in K-12 education, but also in the military and the training that they do.  I imagine, though I don't have proof of it that the same thing happens in colleges these days, especially for-profit colleges.
Crybullies.

"The crybully targets in this latest round of campus wars have been university presidents and student leaders. Baseless claims of an unsafe environment are used to leverage leadership changes that either bring activist allies to power or new leaders that are terrified enough to give in to activist demands."

It's about power over others, nothing more.

Conservatives have already been banned from speaking at universities. This isnt anything new. In another thread months ago there was another instance of saying free speech under certain circumstances is hate speech.
It could be worse, the kids could be suing everyone who hurts their feelings...

Quote:But a racially-charged message--and yes, a hostile message that is targeted specifically at people of a certain nationality is racially charged, is worth discussing.

I'm pretty sure it's targeted toward illegal immigrants trying to cross the border not the entire Hispanic race.

I am aware he makes racially charged statements all the time, but in the case of "build a wall" he's talking illegal immigrants that we all know make their way here all the time. I personally don't believe that is the way to deal with the issue but that's neither here nor there.
