come on, fellas. Three drafts in and that many needs. We could draft any position with the 5th pick and it's be perfect. Why are you giving this guy excuses?

His drafts haven't been perfect but he's also had quite a few hits. No point in letting him go now unless you want to end up like the Browns or other teams who constantly change coaches and GMs every year. That is about the worst thing you can do. Caldwell has done pretty well considering the roster he started with.
Quote:we have at least EIGHT NEEDS. what are we improving on?

can't believe you believe that so long as we get a little better, then eventually we'll be okay.

By that logic, how many drafts will the "rebuild" take??

And how many Needs did we have prior to Caldwell arriving? probably 20 or more? He's done good and hit on QB and WR which were the bigs ones. I do think his plan of a three year rebuild may have been a little over optimistic and it is indeed going to take longer.
how do you have 20 needs with not that many positions on a team? That's a little melodramatic, isn't it?

8 is better than 16-20. That is what we are improving on. Though I'd say it is more than 8.

That's how it works, sorry if you don't like it but you cannot fill every need with all-pro talent in one off-season.

Every draft. It's a never-ending process.

Do you not know football?

11 start on offense + 11 start on defense + 1 kicker + 1 punter + ~ players who rotate into the game = >20

He's only made one serious FA signing and he's turning out pretty well (Thomas). He said that he wasn't building through FA and that's exactly how it's been going. He's got the main guys on the team (Bortles, Yeldon, Robinson, Hurns, Linder and Telvin) in the draft.
Only Beadles and Gerhart had bad deals based on production

The others were not paid much

I would say Scobee and maybe one or two other players were positions you felt we were okay at, so the math may be closer than you think.
I will say I do think if we don't make the playoffs next year Bradley is probably out. Hard to see him getting a contract extension unless we go 9-7, 10-6 and miss.

I'd have to agree. Next year, in all likelihood will be Gus' last. Sucks to go through another bad year of football. Who knows, maybe they are right. Maybe they will have a great draft and some huge FA signings and Gus takes over defense and they go off. That'd be nice. But if nothing else we get to go through the "whose coming in for an interview threads and Twitter updates" I kinda enjoy those.
How is LG a need? That's Cann's job. Leo was addressed last draft, though that still remains to be seen if it was addressed properly.

Clemons was fine last year, fell off this year.

What about his good FAs?

Parnell

Skuta

Odrick

Hurns (technically)

I'd say there's been improvement to the roster
Quote:Lol "all his busts". His first draft was bad (he'd been GM for a few months and was using Gene Smith's scouts) but his second was probably the best this team has ever had.

Smh.

What are you shaking your head for?

He's literally picked bortles, Robinson, and telvin smith in 3 years that I give him props for. And those picks may just save his job.

Everything else has been incomplete, average or below average. His free agents have been well below average.

On top of Bortles, A-Rob, Yeldon (remains to be seen, but he showed a lot of flashes this year), Telvin, Greene, Linder, Colvin, Cann, etc.? That's in 3 drafts, and 2013 was one of the worst drafts in a long while I'd say, most teams had poor drafts.

Caldwell has been an above average GM thus far no doubt. If Fowler or Sample play much at all this year, I think a lot less people would be complaining about him too. Rashad Greene has the makings of an elite punt returner and I watched plenty of him at FSU, he has the talent to be something at WR.

He also hired Gus Bradley. I give him an F for that.
Now this one I'm interested in watching, unlike the Gus conference. I'm sick of hearing that man talk. Let's see what Dave has to say.

Telvin was in the 5th round. Fowler, Sample, and Greene either missed all year or most of the season from this draft, with Greene showing he has the makings of being an elite punt returner.

As much as Lee is a question mark, he has all the talent in the world and showed to stay healthy late this season, so there's hope there too. He got Linder, Telvin, Denard (Denard has had his fumble problems, but the guy has talent and has shown some huge glimpses. Go back 2 weeks ago and people were calling him to be RB1 after a nice game), Greene, Colvin all in late rounds who are either looking like core pieces or are core pieces moving forward. He also landed Cann who did great in his rookie year after being thrusted in when Linder went out, and has the looks of our starting LG going into next year. On top of that list of FA's he said above, he also got Roy Miller who is one of the best nose tackles in the league.

We have holes, but this isn't about Dave. He has done a very solid job in the draft and FA with what we're trying to do. He added Odrick who was a great run stuffer and had the most sacks on the team at a position that isn't even supposed to be a pass rushing spot. He offered McCourty the most $$$ last offseason and if we would have got him he would have been an obvious hit as well.

This is about coaching and the defense. You can't fix both sides of the ball when they are that far gone in one year. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have done better this year, but the talent on the offense is what it is because we focused on it. It's one of the most promising offenses in the league...why? Because Dave Caldwell brought in the talent through draft and FA.

Lol ok.

We all know our team was in bad shape in 2012 when he took over. He unfortunately threw the baby out with the bath water and let Daryl Smith go.

That was such an obvious miss that I still can't get over it.
Just about any GM would have come in in'13 and improved this stinking roster

That is one big miss that I will back others on. There was no reason to not retain him. You need some veteran leadership and he was a hell of a player. He would be a solid OTTO for us. I get the whole starting completely over, but if you have some players that can play you don't just dump them just so you can say it was a fresh start, which is what I felt like we did.
