Quote:I love it because we're taking a more patient approach as opposed to using the Cleveland model.
Am I satisfied with a 5 or 6 win season? Hell no. I've made numerous posts saying that 8 wins should have been a reasonable expectation for fans. 6 wins should be the Gus is safe line.
Khan decided 5 was enough. Marked improvement from ground zero.
You guys don't like hearing it. But it's real talk.
I would not be surprised, however, if this vote of confidence from Khan has a caveat.... If next season starts rough... we could see Maronne or Olson move in to take over the reigns.
Next season, playoffs or bust for this team...
Everyone knows it, especially Gus.
While he is promised the job for 2016, I didn't get the sense the entirety of the season is promised.
Progress now must come with results.
You just hit the nail on the head with this part of your post.
Quote:This is actually what i was trying to get through to some ppl. There are several different types of Head Coaches in the league. And each type has examples of success and failer.
There is the Coordinater coach who caoches up and designs and run his offence or defence schemes and hires someone else to run the opposite side(exmp Bruce Arians, Mike Macarthy, Rex Ryan,Sean Peyton
There is the Motivational coach who hires offensive and defensive coordinators to design and run and coach their sides he oversees and motivates the team(exmp Mike tomlin, Pete Carol, John Harbaugh
Then there is the Disciplinairan coach who has his hands in both offense defence and every aspect of the game everything is done his way (exp Tom Coghlin, Mike Holmgren, jim harbaugh
Now there are blends of all and more examples out there. the point im trying to make is Gus is the motivational coach wich he learned form pete carol, if you have been to practices you see he goes from group to group pumping them up, he lets his coaches coach. I do admit he chose the coaches so its on him. But you ppl think gus is out there coaching the defence himself. the head coach is responsible for everything the team does there is no denyng that. But it does help to understand what type of head coach he is and how he coaches to better critique him. If you just judge him by wins and losses and say he sucks, then that is the same as judging your QB by wins and loses (as some of you would do in the past) saying BB5 sucks.
I'm beginning to wonder if Gus is aware of what type of coach he is.
To me, it's pretty clear he should be a Motivational or CEO type coach that sets tone and provides an overview of the direction they should go...
Whether he sees himself as that type of coach is another thing all together. I think what Gus does with babich will give us a better idea.
I think the thing that Gus really needs is some sort of mentor that can teach him the ins and outs of being an effective manager.

Agreed, even if some of his post was snarky, he did pretty much provide a decent answer. So I'll allow it. Lol

That's a good definition of being a five year old.

I noticed. You'd fit in with the hipsters in LA!

How many five year olds that you know sacrifice goats?

I've noticed those same practices help me get my way occasionally with my wife....
Quote:Honestly, the people who support Gus can't be reasoned with. The blind support is baffling. I don't get it.
The support isn't blind. I'm watching the same train wreck you are. I see plenty of progress but the inability to close out games is extremely frustrating. I do think this team is only a pass rush away from playoff contention. Creating a pass rush in one offseason could be tough, but the problem will get lots of attention from Dave. I also think the offense can be much more efficient while still having the big-play capability. Another year in the system for the young players and newer FAs will also help. Continuity and stability does have its positives.
Quote:2013:

2015:
The Jaguars have allowed opposing QBs to complete 65.1% of their passes for 4049 yards, 28 TDs and 8 INTs. They have allowed 1549 yards on the ground, 3.6 YPC and 14 TDs. They have allowed opponents to convert 46.2% of 3rd downs. We have 98 penalties on the season. We have 34 sacks, 8 INTs and the TFL stat isn't showing up on ESPN.com.
There is your improvement on defense in 3 years. Yes, lack of talent is a problem but I don't think this 2015 defense is THAT bad. A defensive head coach should be getting more out of this roster than we have gotten this year. I'm not expecting them to be a top 5 defense but I don't think middle of the pack is outrageous all things considered.
In terms of total yards they went from 27th, to 26th to 25th. In terms of points allowed they went from 28th, to 26th to 31st.
I did this more for my own curiosity.
2013:
The Jaguars QBs threw for 3441 yards, a 59% completion rate, 16 TDs and 21 INTs. They had 1260 yards rushing, 3.3 YPC and 7 TDs. They completed 31.1% of 3rd downs.
2014:
The Jaguars QBs threw for 3001 yards, a 58.3% completion rate, 15 TDs and 18 INTs. They had 1633 yards rushing, 4.5 YPC and 9 TDs. They completed 31.9% of 3rd downs.
2015:
Blake has thrown for 4,189 yards, a 58.9% completion rate, 35 TDs and 16 INTs. They have rushed for 1441 yards, 4.2 YPC and 5 TDs. They have completed 36.8% of 3rd downs.
For those that were wondering about the offense.

I guess... I wouldn't know anything about hipsters really, except that it is a sub culture created by the media to pigeon hole a group of youngsters trying to find their own way in this world.
PBR is delicious by the way.
I get my snarkiness from getting older.
When George Carlin passed, he gave his old man snarkiness to me as his dying wish to carry it on forever.

Nothing wrong with snarkiness, so long as you find some truth within it. Which you tend to do.
PBR is truly underrated, but I can't drink beer like I used to in my 20's!
Quote:When I heard of Khan's statement I couldn't wait to check out the message board. Oh, the moaning and groaning I knew I would see.
You guys did not disappoint! Even though Khan made his decision, even though many of you cannot post on any subject without calling for Gus to be fired, even though Shad clearly isn't looking for you to help him make his decisions - you still can't resist, can you?
Such fragile egos that have to get on record, for the hundredth time, that Gus must go.
But - can't you do it with at least a little humor or inventiveness, since your opinion means absolutely nothing? Thanks.
Most are disappointed. However, Khan gave a 4 year contract to Gusand Caldwell. He gave them those 4 years to right the ship. So in that case he's a man of his word. He's also a businessman and paying Gus for his final year while he ends up the D coordinator in Indy isn't going to happen
I'm guessing Shad isn't losing sleep,on " fans" who refuse to attend until their demands are met. Fire Gus or I'm not going. Lol
Less then 7-8 wins next year, and I'll sharpen my pitchfork.... And with the schedule, I just might have to.

Is this FBT on Twitter in October?
@tealtalk @Ballou1010xl Gus is more than welcome to be a spectator. He's not the guy who is going to take this team anywhere.
@Ballou1010xl The defense did well enough despite the injuries to win. Offense? Not so much. Gus' MO. Lose the winnable ones.
FBT
Jags can't beat a Luck free colt team. Can't win on the road. Stupid mistakes and lousy play calling. Time for Gus to go. #jaguars
FBT
@APMarkLong @AlfieBCC What should the expectations be? Try winning a winnable game? Jags (bad word) the bed. Gus is done.
