It's still players, not plays.
We've carouseled our coaches but still haven't made significant progress with the roster until Blake and the Allens.
Still more work to do on the talent, than on the playbook and play calls.
Gus may earn his firing next season, but if we can't build the defense and OL as we have QB and WR then we're not going any farther than where we are no matter who the coach is. Our own history has proven that.
2013: Gus notices that the team seems despondent after a blowout loss. He brings in ice cream sandwiches to the locker room to ease the pain. As the season goes on Gus splurges on the fancy ice cream sandwiches with the chocolate chip cookie outside.
2014: Gus notices the team only loses by 30 instead of 40 since he started brining in ice cream, so he focuses his offseason efforts on improving the post game festivities. Gus buys a scooper and installs a freezer in the locker room and serves Blue Bell after each game. As the season wears in, Gus shows improvement as a coach by introducing sprinkles and whipped topping as a motivational tool for high performance. He is often spotted on the sidelines during games scribbling who earns sprinkles in a little notepad.
2015: Gus and the team take big strides. Shad makes a few deals with Baskin Robbins to sponsor and provide the cold treats in the post game locker room. As the offense moves to new heights, Gus rewards the team by installing soft serve machines in the locker room and the weight room. Shad sees this as an elite Pro coach move and endorses Gus as the coach of Jay-gwires football in 2016.
2016: Big plans to take the next step this coming season. Rumor has it that Shad will be paying out of pocket to build a Baskin Robbins ice cream manufacturing plant at the shipyards near the stadium. Fresh ice cream and unlimited toppings will be available to all players and opponents after each game. The team will not win more than 5 games but you can rest assured that this special group of guys will compete and get better at every opportoony. Jacksonville will be the hottest destination for fans and free agent alike going foward.
This notion that it's players, not plays is seriously on the brink of ridiculousness. Its' both. It doesn't have to be one or the other, but both working in unison. It takes players, and it takes coaches to succeed. Look at the NY Giants under Fassel. They had players, but not "plays". Enter Tom Coughlin and they win a Super Bowl in what, his 2nd year.
Bus Gladley has consistently said, "you've got to trust the process." Well Bus, after year four if you're not in the top 10 in wins the process isn't working!

No way the schedule will be as easy as it was this year.
Rookie QBs, 2nd string and 3rd string QBs? Not happening next year.
Bortles needs to put the team on his back once again to try and get this team to 6 wins next year.

Both in an 80/20 kind of way. You can't have one and not the other. Not sure why that has to be explicitly stated... "players not plays" has never meant one and not the other, and never has. Never will.
Players, not plays is the answer to the question - which is more important than the other?

I didn't realize we had the players. News to me.
After Week 11 the team was 4-6. We now have a very real chance of finishing 5-11. That is 1-5 to finish the season.
<i>That really screams improvement to me. /s.</i>

1-5 against teams picking in the top 10
Quote:So, coaching only counts in the post season? This is the best you can come back with? Please, if anyone needs to go back to bed, it's you.
Tbh the best coaches are judged by what they do in the post season.

Expect the return of [TIRED JOKE RETREAD] inserts.
Gus is like a Rainmaker who comes to a town parched in drought who sells the citizens and the town leaders that he can bring buckets of rain and lush green gardens will grow. Day after day pass by and there is no rain, but Rainmaker's confidence never wanes and his belief is unshakable. Town continues to pay him and they try and maintain faith despite there being nary a drop. When questioned, Rainmaker Gus assures everyone to not focus on the lack of rain but concentrate on the "progress" of the cloud movement and "can't you feel the change in humidity?" and "I'm sure I felt a raindrop. It's coming!". The townspeople and leaders trust him and they want to believe the downpour could really break through anytime, after all he is so absolutely convincing they can't help but wonder if he is right and can see what isn't easily and immediately visible.
That's where we are with Bradley. There's enough cloud movement to question whether he's a complete conman or not and his confidence is indeed convincing. What if we fire him two games short of the breakthrough? We'd be back to Ground Zero and have to trust in another Rainmaker. And we might be jumping on a Merry Go Round that never stops spinning.
My concern is that there were numerous points in this season where the weather seemed right for just that breakthrough and we all suspended our disbelief and the ground remained dry as dust and we got the same usual excuses and promises. I'm ready for the Rainmaker to be ushered out of town, even though others' faith in him sometimes gives me cause to doubt. He's either a brilliant grifter or Gus is a genius and we're all going to feel stupid for doubting two years from now.

That's pretty much what it was, and why it drew no responses. Very uninspired, predictable, and amateurish.
Quote:Hiring Mularkey
Saying fans are only the ones who buy tickets (This isn't even football related, you use your common sense to realize you don't say such things)
Keeping Bradley
Yes, he is stupid.
I find people like you pretty funny, people that think GMs, HCs, and Owners are some kind of geniuses.
You realize nothing you just said made sense.
I find people like you too ignorant to bother with. Each of the types of people you mention are obviously smarter than you or I or any other mere fan. They are where they are by more than mere luck. Of course, I wouldn't expect you to understand that.

some.....
mostly on offense lol
Did not read the 17 pages of what I assume are filled with typical Bradley/ice cream comments but if anybody didn't already know that he would return they have not been listening to the owner for the last three years since the hire. It's been made more than clear that Mr. Khan bought into a 4 year plan and that would be what Bradley/Caldwell would get.
This should be no surprise to anyone that Gus is back. The team no doubt underachieved this season but a lot of promise was shown. I regularly read at BCC and post from time to time, its bit humorous the 180 the bloggers over their have done just from now, to this time last year about Bradley. The team demolished the roster in 2013, gutted it, cut all the dead weight replaced 90 percent of the veterans with rookies and stop gaps, no surprise we went 4-12. 2nd year, mostly rookies, stop gaps and 2nd year players, however, we did add a few key defensive players and STAYED HEALTHY and the defense took a big step forward. We had a rookie QB, rookie WR and not much talent after that, no surprise we went 3-13. There was expectation this season, but some bad circumstances happened, mostly on defense. Injuries, injuries and injuries. Draft Fowler 3rd overall, lose him for season first play of mini camp with ACL injury, Marks, our best defensive player out 90 percent of this season with various injuries, we just could not get it done down the stretch. We also shot ourselves in the foot way to many times this season with mental errors, key fumbles, missing 3 game winning field goals in one game etc, its not all on coaching.
Gus for sure is responsible for not adjusting the scheme since this season, we really did not have the personelle to run what he wants to do. Clemons essentially wanted to retire this season and Branch, we all know just is not a very good player. He played those two and dropped everyone back into coverage and we got exposed badly. I do blame him for that and we should of adjusted the scheme knowing how bad the defense was.
Gus is on a short leash, but I truly believe this team is very close. That offense is a top 5 offense in the league and we have a franchise QB. Another offseason, another good free agent class with maybe a few stop gap veterans who can come in immediately, especially defensively and make a impact. Another draft that is building for the future and I do think this team truly competes with the entire league.
Khan is a smart man, if there was no hope with Bradley, he would of cut the ties immediately, but the people within the organization truly feel this is right direction to go. Thats enough for me, I never bought into the Gene Smith regime and I saw the writing on the wall early on that that was going to be a disaster. This regime, including Bradley, I have not gotten that impression, even with all the bad blowout losses. I see how the team is being built, and this year, we started to finally see the pieces get into place.

Oh no! I'm gonna lay down and go fetal based on our schedule next year. You're right, let's not play the games.

I think people who write this much and expect people to read it on a message board need therapy. It's not a diary, no one cares.
