Quote:You are clueless.

After reading some of these threads, I really get the sense that a large number of you do not watch many other NFL games not involving the Jaguars.

I realized that a long time ago. It appears most just watch the jags then carry on with their Sunday instead of watching other teams play. You wanna know who looked real bad Sunday.... Kaep did lol.

And there is a group of people on here that love to talk up Teddy Bridgewater that clearly don't watch him play.
How good is blake bortles? Not very.
I'd say he's average right now. I think he will eventually be a good, not elite, but good quarterback in this league. I've seen improvement in his decision making, and one interception against the Patriots isn't going to change that opinion.

It's amazing though, he throws one interception against the defending Super Bowl champions and the hate is everywhere. If he throws a couple touchdowns and no interceptions this week against Indy, these same detractors will be inconspicuously silent. One interception is all it takes.

Quote:I guess I am a homer I picked average, yes as a backup, and yes but not in time for playoffs...

How can anyone pick him in question #2? If I'm making my own team to win the superbowl my two QBs would be Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Even if I wanted to be really careful and have an extra backup in case of injury it wouldn't be Bortles.

This is what average Qb play looks like.

62.1%

226 yds/GM

21 tds

10.3 ints

7.15 yds/gm

Those are averages of 4 qbs ranked between 12-18 in QBR.
Quote:Great news!  I read that TE J. Thomas will play against the Colts, and DT Marks might play too!

This might finally be a game that shows the real Jaguars!

Great. No more excuses Gus.

Quote:Hmmmmm, if you were Calvin Johnson, this late in your career, which team would you rather play for, the Jags or the Pats?

Take your time, I know it's a tough decision.

Players rarely ever get a chance to make such a decision so the answer to this shouldn't even matter.

Quote:I picked Average as well, but he does have potential to become better this season especially with Thomas & Lee playing healthy this week will be a good indicator of how things will go this season.

He is at his best when he takes chances deep down the field, if the receivers can have less drops & the Oline provide him the time it'll force teams to not crowd the line & thus make things better for TJ Yeldon.

You know how they always tell teams dont give up on the run, I feel like thats what OC olson & Bortles should be told about the deep pass.  Keep doing it for most of the game.

Actually I piced "below average," I was saying he's "on the cusp" of moving into the average category, but he's not quite there yet.

Using the criteria from the opening post, you'd want to take the average of the qbs ranked between 16 and 20.

Do you think Blake can attain the stats I posted?
Blake will be ok. Right now, he's below average. He is not at a point where he can put the team on his back and carry them to victories. He needs help from a running game, defense, and coaching.

A testament to this is that opposing defenses continue to stack the box with 8-9 players to stop the run,, forcing Blake and the passing game to be the ones to beat them.

So far, he is not up to that challenge.

We've seen these stacked box defenses against the Jags for the past few years. I was hoping Blake would put an end to all that.

Hopefully he gets there. We're still waiting.

With Julius healthy, the LT situation solidified, the running game picking up its slack, and the drops greatly limited,
I think he can get there this season.

Without all those, he's already on pace.

The stats I posted are the 2014 averages of Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, Ryan Tannehill and Colin Kaepernick.

Like I said, people have no clue what average Qb play looks like...
Bortles is playing below average... but man, he flashes such elite potential. He has improved in a lot of areas this season. Maneuvering in the pocket, better mechanics, has improved on reading defenses. Is he still inconsistent in reading defenses and accuracy? Definitely. I'm not going to give up on him after a bad game against a Belichek defense. He played well against Miami, although was inconsistent. We really need to give him a running game, and another reliable receiver. Having Julius Thomas will help. He's had pretty good pass protection this season, which suprises me because the defenses we have been playing have strong front 7s. I can see him having a good game against Indy, because they have a weaker front 7. We better be able to run the ball against Indy.

Bortles will continue to improve throughout the season. We aren't making the playoffs, or atleast I don't expect it. Next year is the year Bortles should make that leap into being a top 20 qb. I know our fan base doesn't want to be patient with him because of what Gabbert was in his 3rd season, but there's really nothing this season that can happen that will change my mind that Bortles is a potential franchise qb. Bortles is the type of prospect that should've sat for 2 or 3 years, like Aaron Rogers did. Obviously, Bortles didn't have that luxury here and was thrown in before being ready. If Bruce Arians saw Bortles as the only franchise qb in the 2014 draft, then I believe it.

This is the prove - it year for Gus, Joeckel, Cyp, Gratz, Denard, and Caldwell too. Not the defining year for Bortles, IMO. I'm patient with him.
We're talking about a QB who's only played for 16 games, with a group of wide receivers who are just as inexperienced as he is.   You're judging his progress in three games -- against three teams who will probably make the playoffs. Is this fair?

Bortles is a work in progress.  Let's at least wait until the end of the season to make judgements.

Why would anyone pick Blake Bortles today over Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady today? Stupid question.
Everyone complaining about his stats and performance need to recall what the Jags knew about him pre-draft: He was too raw to start right away and would be a turnover machine.  They knew it but drafted him because they have confidence in his maturity, size and potential.  He's not a finished product, not even close.  If there's ever a guy to be patient with it's Bortles.  We all knew this already, yet many on this board are in full meltdown mode.  It's just silly.

The thing i love about Bortles is, even though he's early in his development, every time he drops back and has time, I know he can make that big play.  Even when i was evaluating whether i was on board with Gabbert or not, i never got that sense.  With Bortles, there's a potential for something special.

Let's watch the year unfold, understand reality, drop our expectations a bit, keep a grip on our sensitive emoutions, and let the thing play out.

I know Blake will be just fine. His stats are pretty good so far and his mechanics have improved a lot.

Once Julius is back Blake will have some monster games. He's already getting 250 and 2 TDs.
