Quote:No That's my point not only did Blaine stink terrible but his team stunk too, and yet our #3 pick QB numbers aren't significantly better than Blaine's with better talent. However everyone has this amazing confidence in him to be a Franchise QB.

Gabbert's stats were consistently bad. Blake might have occasional games where they're down there, but typcially he's putting up far better stats. A typical game for Blaine would be something like 13 of 30 for 150 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT for a qb rating of 56.3. A typical game for Blake is something like 17 of 30 for 250 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT for a qb rating of 92.4.

One last thing about Gabbert:When he was at the helm, our offensive calling card was 3 and out.

With Blake, we convert at a pretty decent clip...
Quote:Or... you could just try to have a little composure on a message board about a football game.

And you'd be welcomed with all our opinions by the posters... win lose or draw.

I would actually not be opposed to a draw this week.
Quote:Question for Jag Fans other than pocket awareness which he good at

What does Blake do better than Blaine? Blaine threw a better ball, had a stronger arm,

And their accuracy was almost the same. Let me remind you that Blaine had significantly

Less talent around him too according to media and jag fans

Do you even remember that Blaine had trouble getting the Jags passed the 50 yd line, because I do.

BB5 is much better at converting 3rd downs too.
Please stop with the Gabbert and Bortles comparisons. Gabbert couldnt make half of the throws Bortles makes.

Most coming in garbage time. But still better

It wasn't garbage time against the Dolphins. I can see Bortles not only keeping up stats like this but also improving over time. To keep from having garbage time fourth quarters, the defense needs to seriously step it up as does the running game.

Blake keeps his eyes down field while in the pocket. Goobert would be peeking at the rush and would miss receivers running open downfield. The experts were right about Blaine's "eye level" being inadequate. Often times he would struggle to pass for 100 yards in an entire game. He can physically make any throw Blake can and then some, but he can't see nearly as much of the field. Blake struggles with accuracy due to his mechanics not yet being in sync all the time. Blaine struggled with accuracy because he was cowering away from pass rushers, both existent and non-existent. Both are physically large but Blake can take a hit whereas Blaine would get hurt every other game. One of these QBs problems are fixable, the other has permanent flaws that will cause him to be a career backup.

In summation, Blaine was the much better natural passer, but Blake has much better vision, pocket presence and natural football intangibles.
To me, he's still in the "got potential stage".  He seems to look like a QB who should be a terrific player but so far hasn't put it all together.  His accuracy is one thing that has bothered me this year but maybe that's a result of him remaking himself in terms of his mechanics.  We'll see.  I suspect he'll never be a top 5 guy but probably could be a top 10 guy.

I really see Bortles pulling a Jekyll And Hyde throughout the whole season honestly

Which is not that unusual for young quarterbacks

It's just Jagantus, who is a pretty obvious troll.

In what world is that typical for Blake?
Quote:In what world is that typical for Blake?

It's what he thinks would be his stats after he adjusts for the drops, QB pressures, an upset stomach, random gusts of wind, sun being in Bortles' eyes, do-over's because Bortles wasn't playing for serious on that drive, and whatever other excuse he needs. After you adjust appropriately Bortles is a top 5 QB easy.
Let us compare Blake's performance to Peyton Mannings & his Idol Brett Favre's first three years in the NFL.  Sure they are better but is Blake as bad as some have made him out to be?

1998 IND Colts Peyton Manning 326 cmp, 575 att, 56.7%cmp, 3,739 yards,  6.5avg, 26TDs, 28INT, 3 Fumbles, 71 Rating

2000 IND Colts Peyton Manning 357 cmp, 571 att, 62.5%cmp, 4,413 yards, 7.73avg, 33TDs, 15INT, 4 Fumbles, 94.7 Rating

sure everyone knows Big Ben had a great rookie & even 2nd year but what about his 3rd?

2006 PITT Steeelers Ben Roethlisberger 280cmp, 469att, 59.7%, 3,513 yards, 7.49avg, 18TDs, 23INTs, 3 Fumbles, 75.4 Rating

Quote:Not only that but people have revisionist history because gabbert had a guy called MJD, Blackmon briefly, cecil shorts and a top 10 defense at the time but let the fatcs not get in the way.

I agree Blaine Gabbert was surrounded by better talent in his first 18 games than that of Blake Bortles.

A good oline, one of the best RB, Justin Blackmon........But Blaine had less talent around him?
Here's a few statistical measures comparing his play through 3 games this year to all of last year. I was very pessimistic about Bortles coming into the year but honestly, I've been impressed with his progress through 3 games.

TD%
2014: 2.3
2015: 4.7

INT%
2014: 3.6
2015: 2.8

Yards/attempt
2014: 6.1
2015: 6.6

Adjusted net yards/attempt
2014: 3.81 (27/27 with at least 10 starts)
2015: 5.69 (20/32 with at least 2 starts)

DVOA
2014: -40.7% (43/44 with at least 100 attempts)
2015: -14.7% (21/32 with at least 45 attempts)

DYAR
2014: -955 (44/44 with at least 100 attempts)
2015: -26 (21/32 with at least 45 attempts)

PFF Grade
2014: -38.9 (28/28 with at least 50% of snaps)
2015: -2.4 (18/30 with at least 50% of snaps)

Really the only place he isn't significantly better than last year is completion% which is mostly (but not totally) explained by a higher drop rate. Also he's been more aggressive with throwing downfield, since his YPA is actually higher with the lower completion.  In the other categories he's gone from the worst starting QB in the NFL to just a below-average starter through 3 games this year... which to me is pretty good for where he is in his development.

Edit: I didn't read the thread but from this page it seems like people are comparing him to Blaine. Last year, sure, I could see that. But this year that's asinine. Blaine never even approached playing as well as Blake has played so far.

He was the worst QB in Jaguars history and I'm even including the backups in my thought process as I never felt confident with Blaine in there that the team could win the game.
