Quote:I'd be surprised if we didn't beat the Bucs. Julius should be back. Marks should have a couple games under his belt and should be able to help out a lot. Lee may even be able to help out.
Bucs looked worse than we did. At least our defense did okay and didn't give up 4 TDs to a rookie QB playing his first game.
That being said, our schedule looks tough. We definitely have to improve from week 1 if we plan on winning more than 3 games.
I agree with this too.
However, Tampa arguably poses more offensive challenges than Carolina.
I'd take Tampa's receivers and TEs 100 times out of 100 over Carolina.
Their OLs are about the same-bad.
And again, this will be the third straight road game.
If we get crushed the next 3 weeks, the confidence the team has in itself or Bradley may be done by the Tampa game.
Quote:The Bucs looked horrible. They had no answer for anything Tennessee was putting out there.
I'll give Mariota credit for looking legit, but yeah Bucs suck. Having Mike Evans back should help them a lot offensively, but even then, that's not going to fix all the other issues they have.

You make good points. When Evans gets back especially, TB's receivers are a million times better than Carolina's.
Biggest difference here is Cam vs. Winston. At this point, Winston couldn't even hold Cam's jockstrap. I'll take that matchup over Carolina any day. Doesn't matter if they have prime Jerry Rice back there if they have a knucklehead that can't get him the ball.

Mariota looked good, but I think the announcers were making a really big deal out of how he was shredding Smith's defense. That's not a good defense. He'll be tested soon enough.
As far as getting Evans back helping them, it may. But, if you rattle Winston, you could put Jerry Rice and Randy Moss in their prime out there and it won't make a bit of difference. He'll be throwing the ball wherever just to get rid of it.

I would also take Tampa's OC (Koetter) over Carolina's (Shula?) any day.
You are right about the experienced Newton being better than Winston. But that's where the pressure needs to come into play.
Pressuring Winston will force him into some bad reads and throws.
If we can't pressure him, he can throw it up to those tall WRs.
We should be able to pressure him with Marks back. That's going to free up Clemons and our LBs that much more.
Agreed. Tampa should be a winnable game. Hopefully we're not going there looking for win #1.

 Funny we used the same analogy about prime Jerry Rice.
Yeah, I'm not scared of that matchup. If the spread is decent I may actually put some money on us. If we're winless it may be an even spread which I'll take all day.

As pathetic as this sounds, I would be...relieved...with a 2-5 record.

I hope so.
As cliche as this sounds, and I am sorry to not offer a more intelligible response, any given Sunday.
We've seen 1-8 beat 8-1. Rook Lefty 'take down' Manning in Indy...
The team we saw yesterday didn't lose because they lack talent. They lost due to inopportune mistakes, lack of cohesion -perhaps justifiably - and no true sense of 'taking' a game. This is not a bottom feeder roster, in my honest view. They are merely a bad team. A team that doesn't know how to play winning ball for now. As Gus said, they are 'built'...Minimize self inflicted shoots, come up with sane game plans on O, play to your QB's strengths, find ways to shore the line (the hard part), and they'll be fine.
I am currently on research fellowship back in DC. Considering how bad the Skins are, Cousins looked woeful, threw a couple of picks yet they had Miami on the ropes. They can be had. Plus, they are on the road in consecutive weeks, granted just down ours. IF we manage to get to 1-1, who knows what path this takes? That's the beauty of football, and that's how I see it.
The script can't be prewritten, 1 week in advance, let alone 8. Let's breathe n watch.
Point taken, Brit.
But your post begs two questions:
1. Can't Any Given Sunday work AGAINST us (In Tampa) at least as easily as it could happen FOR us in Indy and New England?
2. Ours is not a bottom feeder roster. But is it a better roster than Miami, New England or Indy?
Next week is the breaking point, no way to sugar coat it. It is the single most important game in Gus Bradley's tenure. If they don't come away with a W, you can go ahead and take 0-4 to the bank. Then it's all downhill from there. I'm not sure Bradley makes it to week 5 if that's the case. Shad has been real patient so far, but I can't imagine him putting up with another winless September.
Keep in mind that his team will be away from Everbank for a while too. What a sour taste to leave.
Quote:Stopped listening to gus' s babbling a while ago. It's time to put up or shut up.
They better beat Miami. This is probably the most important game in Gus Bradley's head coaching career.
Beating Miami AT HOME will be the ONLY chance they have to get a win in Sept. and get off to a 1-4 start.
If NOT, then it's the 3rd straight 0-4 (and counting) start to season by head coach Gus Bradley.
I'm willing to bet that has never been done by another NFL head coach and I am not even going to look it up first.

NO, just NO. NOT under Gus Bradley.
Cmon Jags...
we agree on this point, only you don't see it.

Then they better win this week against the Fins, because if not, then that is exactly what they will be looking for in Tampa.
This week is easily the most winnable game of the next 3, but of course we know they won't even be favored at home.
Come on Gus, make us proud this week.
Quote:Life's tough. Marrone isn't an upgrade. He's got his fingerprints all over the offense already. You're whining that this is all Gus' fault. Marrone is in on the offensive play calling. Ma
Marrone has a 9-7 record as head coach. He has more wins in 1 season then gus has so far in year 3. We don't know what his authority is on offense. I do know Gus should of been up in the coordinators ear about changing the play calling going into the 4th quarter.

Gus lets his coordinators, especially on the offensive side of the ball, do their job. If he's in anyone's ear about the offensive play calling, it's Marrone who is hearing about it. I didn't pay attention to the sideline yesterday, but he was right there with Gus on the field during the preseason, and was involved in any sideline huddles with the offense, so he's right there in making the decisions.
