Yes, because it's very important that guys who will be bagging groceries in 3 weeks score TDs against OTHER guys who will be bagging groceries in 3 weeks, right?

Bortles is the man, it's his trash receivers that is holding this team back. I'm sorry, but Hurns is a liability. He can run good routes but he's Troy Williamson 2.0. Even AROB dropped 2 on a row.


I think Bortles saving grace will be Julius Thomas.

How am I in any way skewing what you said? I quoted you directly, and then provided the halftime stats. I'm not skewing anything.

Personally,, I wait until week 3 to start really "judging". Weeks 1 and 2 are basically just an extension of the preseason IMO. The starters play full games, but they're still getting their timing and working out the kinks the first couple weeks.


Anything can happen in weeks 1 and 2. It goes a long way towards September being called the great "fooler month". Some teams may look great early but be completely off the map come December.

Looking back on the draft I was still shaking my head at why we didnt draft Leonard Williams instead of Fowler.  I couldve swore that had he fallen to #3 Dave Caldwell was going to draft him.

He already has a safety, 1 1/2 sack, and plays for a bad Jets team with a weak line.  Can you imagine him on the Jaguars next to Marks it wouldve been sick.

I thought about all the people that wanted WR Cooper, Jerry Rice has compared him to the next Tim Brown...

I guess I am just upset that not only has another 1st round pick not gone the way i had wanted or hoped (in fact none of them for over a decade), and then to hear Fowler gets injured immediately was so disapointing.....

 

Hopefully Chris Clemons can come in 100% healthy and improved upon from last year that it wont matter this year... because the lack of pass rush against the Giants was sad.

I do think that Gm Dave Caldwell is doing a great job.  I mean the 2013 draft wasn't a good draft for most teams compared to other years.

I wouldn't call a D-Line with Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson weak.

 

I also don't think the Jets in general are a bad team, they just have a mess at QB. They have talent everywhere on defense and some nice weapons on offense with Decker, Marshall, Devin Smith (yes, he needs to prove himself first, but I think he can be really good) and Ivory. IF they can draft a good QB next year (they will probably have a top 10 pick), I think they could be a very good team.

So now the receivers are trash?  Sorry, not really buying that.  I think the drops will be fixed.  I do agree that Thomas will be a weapon in this offense, and not having him out there hurts right now. It also hurts to not have the guy you're planning to have as your starting running back on the field.  I'm not expecting every touchdown to come through the passing game this year.

I liked Amari Cooper as a player, but I can see why they passed on him.

 

There is something to be said for allowing young guys to develop.  The team drafted two WRs relatively high in the draft.  Both showed promise, and both struggled with injury.  While talent is always welcome, there is something to be said about experience.  You can make the argument Bortles needed experience at receiver because he already has talent at his disposal.

 

Secondly, at the time of the draft, there was a gaping need at LEO for this team.  Chris Clemons played decently last year and got us 8.5 sacks.  Keep in mind, that would not typically lead a dominant defense in sacks, but he led our team. That was at age 33.  He is now 34, and he can't be expected to duplicate that, especially since he has missed most of camp.

 

On a tertiary level, you could argue that Leonard Williams and Fowler were better overall players than Cooper.  Not knocking Amari Cooper at all by saying it's possible those two guys were higher on the Jaguars board than Cooper.
