So, preferring the backup plan even when the one you really wanted (and nearly signed) becomes available again.

Seems legit.

More like moving on. The center of the future is more than likely already on the roster.
Demaryius Thomas has a good chance of making to free agency if he and the Broncos can't workout a long-term deal before the July 14th deadline. The reason why is Von Miller is also a FA after this season and the Broncos won't be able to franchise both.

Not to mention the price tag just isn't worth it now.

I think that either Wisniewski or Bowanko will have proven themselves to be good enough to hold down that position long-term by next offseason. If center is a game of musical chairs, with Wisniewski and Bowanko both failing to hold down the job and play at a high level, then throwing a wad of cash at Mack might make sense.
Von Miller and Justin Houston.

Unfortunately, Nate Stupar won't be available until 2017.

Didn't Mack get injured last season?

If Wiz holds the job or if Bowanko takes the job... it would stand to reason we got a pretty good (and pretty young) starting C for years to come...

Why throw another new piece on the Oline if the pieces we have pan out.

Of course... we're all assuming a lot here.

I think biggest FA targets will be at LB and S.

Although if the Oline doesn't pan out, we could look there.

And I think back up QB will be looked at.

I wouldn't suspect as much free agency action next offseason though.

I think Houston will get a deal done.

Miller will get tagged I bet.

Wagner and Kendricks are interesting LB FA prospects.

Fill a need in the middle.

If we managed to pull that off I'll take out a second mortgage on my house and build a humongous shrine in the image of Dave Caldwell.

yeah...

Houston's off the market, and Miller probably won't be allowed onto it. I think the Broncos would sooner tag Miller and let D. Thomas walk next year than tagging Thomas again and risking losing Miller.
What about TY Hilton? The clots will have a hard time paying their best WR and re-signing Luck to what will probably be a record contract. And of course we get bonus points for weakening a division rival.

Thomas' deal is done, leaving them free to tag Miller, and tag him again if needed

They'll probably find a way to pay both guys,

but they are pretty heavy at WR so if the other guys they drafted pan out, they could let him walk.

Even still... I bet they let guys like Fleener walk and try to lock Luck and Hilton up for a Manning/Wayne/Harrison kind of combo for years.
Colts need to take advantage of Luck's current contract.

They prepared for TY's departure by drafting Philip Dorsett in the first round, there's no way they can afford to pay Luck and Hilton, look at the contracts Dez and DT just signed, Hilton won't get that but his agent will certainly try especially if he has a big year.

I highly doubt this happens, Hiltons value is artificially inflated by Lucks greatness and the Colts know this, that's why they drafted a carbon copy in Philip Dorsett, they'll likely let TY walk letting another team (hopefully the Jaguars) overpay him. Our cap situation allows the Jags to take risk on players like TY, the Colts are going to be hurting when they're forced to pay Andrew $30M/year.

Ppl thought the same thing about Cobb and the other Pack players....

Sometimes teams find a way.

However...

I have heard clot fans say TY drops a lot of passes. And I did say, maybe if Dorsett pans out, they can let TY walk.

Or they could have a serious WR group of young and ascending players.

Teams have a way of making the cap work.

Tagging seems to work for most teams.

They could tag TY.

They have not so far. Their offseason signings of has-been's like Andre Johnson, Frank Gore and Trent Cole is desperation.
