*** Official Game Day Thread - Jags @ iggles ***
Posted by: flsprtsgod - 11-03-2024, 10:01 AM - Replies (1114)

What would've been a night game had the Jags not gagged the season away early will now be a 4:05 tilt on CBS. The Jags come into this one with a ton of injuries after last week's disappointing loss to the packers. Look for a very physical Philly team to stress both sides of the ball on their home field. Lawrence, Bigsby and company will have a tough day against the iggles defense and their young secondary full of stars in the making. On defense the Jags have been lost all year, expect that trend to continue today as they face a Philly team in the hunt for the NFC crown.

Thoughts, commentary, grousing, arguments and snark to follow.

2-6 and could be 2-9 by the Bye! What is the root cause?
Posted by: OG-JAGFAN - 11-01-2024, 03:08 PM - Replies (30)

There is a ton of blame that could and should be tossed around:  Who is mostly at fault?  Sure you could say a bunch of all of them but there is a root cause!

Do you blame Shad for keeping Baalke despite the fans protesting with clown faces at home games?

Do you blame Baalke for the lack of talent acquisition?  He chose Walker over Hutch, he chose not to address the offensive line outside of center last year, he signed some guys who are simply earning a paycheck right now. On the other hand, He is also the guy who drafted BJT and the guy who brought some of our best talent here.

Do you blame Doug/Press for the poor offense's preparation?  This team has looked lost at times this year. The offense is ranked 14th with yards but 21st with points. Also we have some garabe time yards added due to opponents playing prevent because we were getting blown out.

Do you blame Nielson and the poor defense play?  One of the worst defense's in the league.  Opponent players running wide open. They can't play man or zone. The pass rush is really bi-polar.  They will play a series that scares the hell out of the opposing QB's and then the next series the Opposing QB can take a nap in the pocket.  Frustrating to watch.

Do you blame the players?  Players are professionals and regardless of coaching, should hold themselves to a standard of performance.  We have a 6 figure QB, 6 figure DE, just traded our high priced Left tackle for peanunts, but it's not showing on the field.  BJT looks to be in running for rookie of the year.  The team just does not score points and the defense cannot make a stop when the game is on the line.

Yes they all deserve blame for their part but it starts somewhere.  Where do you think the root of the blame lies?

  different defense with wingard
Posted by: snowwolf776 - 11-01-2024, 08:14 AM - Replies (20)

you heard it here first, when we get  Wingard back jags defense will look better then what it does now. It won't be great, but it will be a much better defense. Wingard is a better player then people think.

at least when he is in the game you will see a different defense, otherwise the d will be the same.  I know one person doesn't make a team, but wingard is one of our players on defense who can catch the ball.

Wingard will help the jags defense look  better cause hes  our leader really on D.

Did this really happen? Richardson benched because he took himself out of the game for being tired. ???

Time Will Tell.

The Walker Little era is here.

Hopefully Little can prove he can be the guy at LT and we can extend him in the offseason.  If he can be the guy it would then allow us to get one of these top defensive players in the draft where the top players are on the defensive side of the ball anyway imo.

  Mid [sorta] season Rookie review
Posted by: StrayaJag - 10-29-2024, 07:15 PM - Replies (8)

BTJ- So happy we have him, crazy he still has so much development room left in him, finally hit on a WR1 - Grade S

Maason Smith- Flew out the gates  had some really good games where he drew various holding calls, alot of potential but has seen a significant drop in gsme time, not to sure if he smashed Nielsen's window or what - Grade E

Jarrian Jones- he has been great in the nickle, great ball hawk ability against packers for that pick, looking forward to his further development, Grade - A

Javon Foster- eh, personally I have not seen much, Grade - E

Jordan jefferson- again I presume he is a next year player, has got some snaps but not much impact- Grade E

Deantre Prince- not looking to good so far, he has been exposed multiple times , inc againdt packers, Grade- E minus

Keilan Robinson- Who ? - Grade F

Cam Little- man I really want them to give him a shot from 60+, he 100% has the leg for it, been really good so far, inc the game winning field goal againdt clots,  Grade A

Myles Cole- Baalke attribute player  some snaps, not expecting much, could be a diamond in the rough, Grade - E

  • Today's moves, Hance is back. We also signed a funky RB and a cheesey (velveeta) WR
  • Signed OL Blake Hance from the practice squad to the 53-man roster
  • Signed WR Velus Jones Jr. to the practice squad
  • Released RB Jake Funk from the practice squad

I still like the OFFENSIVE roster
Posted by: AnOldBrownie - 10-28-2024, 02:44 PM - Replies (18)

QB...good
RB room...good
WR room...pretty good
TE room ... very good
Oline...currently league average

Yes...Trevor has good and bad plays (too many for my liking) but he's not an AVERAGE qb.   He's good enough to be the QB on a SB winning team.

The running back room has 3 RBs that could easily get 20 carries in a game.

The thing that keeps the WR room from being good, is 1) Gabe Davis not being healthy all season and 2) Kirk not being a true #1.   BTJ shouldn't be the most dangerous receiver the Jags have, but he is.  I like Washington...but he's also not a #1 or #2 receiver on a good team.

TE room.   I really like both Engram and Strange for different reasons.   TE room is strong.

We've all talked about the Oline not being physical enough to consistently open holes for RBs, or pass protect well against the better defenses in the league.

They've been above average this year...but I think we'll all agree that this season they need to upgrade from Brandon Scherff and maybe even draft our future center.

I like the offensive pieces.

Now...that DEFENSE doh...
