The O'Halloran tweet is pre-arrest and probably not relevant at this point.   ^

DiRocco's is more interesting.  It's still possible that being eligible to "apply" and eligible to "be" re-instated are on two different timelines due to the most recent arrest.

Quote:I don't know why the timetable of 4/1 was so pertinent as to JB's application for reinstatement. I know I have heard/read that more than once in the past few weeks. I can find no link to support anything having to do with applying for reinstatement in April. I guess he actually was already able to apply for reinstatement, since November of 2014, but has not. Since the commissioner has to respond within 60 days of an application for reinstatement, maybe it was wishful thinking on several people's part that the application be made and a decision be made for reinstatement by the commissioner before the draft. This is my understanding of the situation as it stands. So, here is a link for his actual reinstatement procedure

<a class="bbc_url" href='http://espn.go.com/blog/jacksonville-jaguars/post/_/id/11048/here-is-the-nflreinstatement-procedure'>http://espn.go.com/blog/jacksonville-jaguars/post/_/id/11048/here-is-the-nflreinstatement-procedure</a>

It seems that since JB was arrested in July of 2014 for marijuana, he may be in no hurry to apply, since it has not been a full year since any incidents. Also, I suspect that since a part of the reinstatement process would entail a medical evaluation within 45 days to include drug tests, JB is taking his time and enjoying the off season. The more I research this whole topic, the more convinced I am that he is done. The discipline is not there to make a come back, in more ways than one. I think Dave and Gus know what's up, and they are being polite and/or not tipping their hand.
If Blackmon did indeed enter into rehab and completed the program, which is verifiable, and he's able to show that he's remained clean since completing the program, I would think reinstatement is a real possibility.  Even with the July 2014 arrest, I would think he would have a good case in any appeal for reinstatement considering how long he's been suspended.  If it went to arbitration, he'd probably win.

We'll see soon enough if he applies for reinstatement.

I dunno. The black and white says otherwise and I don't see Goodell doing the Jags any favors.

Quote:In the application for reinstatement, the player must provide "information about his treatment, abstinence from substance abuse throughout the entire suspension, involvement in any substance-abuse related incidences, and arrest and/or convictions for any criminal activity (including substance-abuse related offenses)."

The league softened the rules on pot.  The guy has missed an entire season plus an additional 12 games in 2013.  Murderers have had shorter suspensions.  He'll get an opportunity to appeal if they decide to extend his suspension.  If he applies for reinstatement, he's able to document that he's been clean since leaving rehab, he'll play at some point in 2015.  Even if the incident last summer is taken into account, he'd be eligible for reinstatement before training camp.
At this point I am less concerned about whether the commissioner will reinstate him, and more concerned about the personal drive necessary for him to get back on top of things and stay that way. He seems to have become a recluse since being suspended, and comes to the surface only to be spotted in a casino? Smh, why can't he be spotted running down the street or at a gym, or better yet at Bortles Passing Camp?

He was spotted at a casino, not drinking or partying.  I guess we should require that he only leave his house to attend church until his suspension is lifted?  Gimme a break.  Despite the holier than thou sect on this board simply assuming he must be up to no good, there's nothing to indicate that's the case.  The fact that he's a "recluse" has everything to do with the fact that he's a private guy to begin with.  That's a sin now too?

As far as attending the Bortles camp is concerned, I'm sure that would have silenced the critics completely had he shown up....not.

Lol, not the moral police here...and I don't own a sceptre. But I am in a profession that daily deals with addicts and abusers of drugs and alcohol. Because of his history, I believe Justin would have (or had) a substance/alcohol addiction..a compulsion to continue doing those things that put his livelihood in danger. I am not campaigning for shutting down of casinos. However, a person like Blackmon really should not be there. The same reason that those dieting don't go to Dairy Queen, just to hang out. As for Justin being a private person...not private enough to not be observed at the watering hole too many times in college by Bucs scouts.
Off topic, random, but it's 8:00 PM. The title reminded me of how much I miss Leonard Nimoy hosting the show "In Search Of...".

When I was creating the post I was thinking of the movie "Searching for Bobby Fisher". A great chess talent that basically went into hiding. I think Bobby joined some sort of cult and became antisocial. I hope for better for Blackmon.

He didn't seek them out. They camped out at a popular bar for college students in Norman. Big shock. A college jock who drinks showed up at the bar.

I'm pretty certain it's well established he has an addiction problem.
I don't think Blackmon has any chance of being a top receiver now. Mentally he seems a bit like a child. I doubt he has the mental fortitude to get in great shape after this long off.

I'd rather they focused on the likes of Hurns who strikes me as wanting to be good. Blackmon just strikes me as a loser who will never be relied upon by anyone.

That guy at the casino was not Blackmon.

That's clearly Blackmon...

Da Nile ain't just a river in France bro.

Joking right?
It wasn't Blackmon at all. It was that sneaky John Canada, Ron Mexico's brother..

Those Ron John brothers are masters of disguise.

He's in a casino, possibly one of the worse locations a 'presumably' recovering alcoholic could be, during 'spring break'...and what's that he's holding in his hand? A drink. Tea perhaps, or maybe a Coca-Cola? You say he's "not drinking"...

*He's an alcoholic... so he has the motivation to drink alcoholic beverages.

*He's in a casino, a place that serves and even promotes drinking alcoholic beverages, and it's during 'spring break' when there's many other young  people present drinking... so he has the opportunity and means.

*He's plainly holding a glass of some kind of beverage in his hand in the photo... physical evidence?

If Blackmon wants to continue drinking that's his choice. As far as being a 'recluse'... if I had thrown away millions due to making terrible life choices, perhaps I might want to be a recluse too.

People are so desperate to find additional fault.

He's pointing at the guy with one hand and holding a cell phone with the other. The only "glass" he is holding is in your imagination.
