Maybe... just MAYBE Blackmon has no intentions of reapplying for reinstatement.

I don't know why he wouldn't... but it is a theory not being tossed around.

Maybe he just isn't ready for the NFL spotlight.

And unfortunately for him, if he isn't ready now, he never will be.

I hope the best for him. And hope he returns to the Jags and can help us win.

But I pretty much forget about the guy until someone on this board or in Ozone brings him up.

What are you guys missing about him so much? The flashes in 8 games he showed? I'm pretty much ready to just move on with Lee, Arob, Hurns, Thomas... Lockette (or Cooper, or White... or Coates...)

Quote:If he's dealing with addiction issues, and that's what it certainly appears to be, drugs and alcohol are simply required for him to survive as far as he's concerned.  There are guys who have had similar problems who have been able to clean up and have good NFL careers.  Hopefully he winds up in that category, and not as another cautionary tale.
That I cannot argue with. Hopefully he has surrounded himself with a positive group and is working towards that. I must say the recent picture of him in the casino is a little alarming but hopefully he was there for a seminar or something. Nonetheless, his final recovery will be solely based on his desires and abilities to overcome. He will truly become a great redemption story if he does. It will be one I would remember.

This is my true thinking. It might not be his priority to be in the league.
Quote:that's a cell phone? Then I apologize and stand corrected.
... I just went back and double checked that photograph. I was referring to the hand that was pointing, not the hand that is obviously holding a cell phone. Anyway, I was mistaken; after looking more closely at the photo, it's just the way he's got his hand curled in front of his shirt pocket that at a glance looks like he's holding a glass. I'll be more careful in the future and try not to make such a fool of myself. Furthermore, I want to publicly apologize to FBT as he was the one I was specifically addressing in that rant.
Quote:Seems pretty argumentative but i'll play along..... I honestly don't have any idea if he had to or not. It is all speculation on my behalf. I'll say this though; there are tons of professional athletes that have made millions more than Blackmon ever will and are currently bankrupt and eating at soup kitchens. Blackmon has proven to me that he has very poor decision making skills.

As a guy who is playing under a new rookie contract, signed a contract that stated he would have to pay back some of his guaranteed money if he got in trouble, ended up getting in trouble, got suspended indefinitely, got a possion charge while suspended indefinitely, and hasn't seen a game check since November 1, 2013 I'm going to take a wild guess that he needed to sell his house to make sure he had some money to not end up completely broke.

Maybe he decided to sell it on his own but Justin doesn't strike me as the guy who is quite knowledgeable of the current real estate market trends. He can't make the simple decision to do drugs at his home or get a buddy to drive him home after a night or heavy drinking so I highly doubt he would make the calculated assumption of knowing the CMA, DTI or FMV of real estate.

I could be very wrong about this. I'm just stating my opinion with no inside knowledge. Nothing more nothing less.
of course there are others who are broke and in financial trouble. there are also who have gone on to having more money than they possibly dreamed of...My point is you have no earthly idea if he HAD to sell his house or if he sold it because he chose to...Believe it or not, he could very well have said, "I'm not using this house right now so why should I pay taxes on it when I'm not even living in the same state? I can always buy another house any time I need to."  People read too much into things...I remember when Wayne still owned the team and put one of his houses up for sale and some on this board jumped on the "Jags are moving to LA" because the Weavers put their house up for sale...

It's been said countless times by Dave Caldwell, Gus, and Mr Khan in and out of the Jags webpage, that the NFL DOES NOT ALLOW the status of players suspended for drugs who are serving time in rehab or participating in treatment programs to become public...People can't seem to grasp what that means, although it's pretty easy to understand...

I think this is it. He is not ready, mentally, or physically, and that it why he does not apply for reinstatement. He's been out of football so long, what else does he have to do? Spend his millions. Basically a kid in his early 20's, no job, no responsibilities, just a fistful of dollars, a little bit of fame, and the world for his taking. And as much I as I did not want to admit it, I think we have lost our 5th overall pick of the 2012 draft. We worked hard at all that losing, to get ourselves that 5th overall pick, and it profited us nothing. It's a hard pill to swallow, as he was suppose to be that pick that gave us that true number 1 receiver that we had long been missing. We had not been able to fill the void since Jimmy Smith retired. We tried with the Matt Jones experiment. Wait a second, didn't Jimmy and Matt both leave the franchise for similar issues such as Blackmon's issues? Why us?

All I did was google "Justin Blackmon Treatment" to find out that as of 10/1/14, Justin had completed nearly half of a 90 day treatment program. So much for all of this hippa and non-disclosure of his treatment status. We are in dark about Justin's current status because there is no status. I don't think there will ever be a status again. I was in denial, and wanted him to come back. I was unwilling to believe that we got stiffed again with another first round pick. We have done wonders with rebuilding our receivers corp. Now we just need the icing on the cake such as drafting Kevin White or Amari Cooper.
Quote:Even if they're using the arrest last summer as the line in the sand, that would make him eligible for reinstatement before training camp. He should be back on the field this season. He shouldn't receive more punishment. He's going to have to apply for reinstatement to see what the league will do. He hasn't taken that step yet.

I gotcha, but it is a strange system for him to still not know if he is being punished more.

except for we don't know if he has applied or not...sometimes no news is good news
Blackmon is 6-1, 210... the guy in the picture is like 5-10, 240.

Get your eyes checked.

Until he applies for reinstatement, he won't know if there's going to be any additional penalty.

I doubt there will be.

That information was released by the Blackmon camp.  So, keep swinging.  HIPAA laws do indeed prevent any information from being disclosed that the patient hasn't authorized in writing.  You're so good at Google, try searching on HIPAA laws and bone up.
wonder if he's working out in preparation of
Maybe Justin was at Vegas for some intensive rehab. He was probably in the lobby of that casino waiting for the Gamblers Anonymous meeting to finish using the grand ballroom. Cmon...

He's not in treatment right now. It would be leaked by the media, or even authorized to be released by his "camp". He could use some good PR. I mean, maybe he's somewhere undisclosed, with Bigfoot, sitting in a sauna and smoking a stogie, trying to shed a few pounds.

If I remember correctly, the photo of Justin in the casino was in Oklahoma, where he is from, and his treatment could be out patient...It could also be a combination of in patient and out patient

You may be right.."Wrong". Not sure about it being Vegas. The premise of the discussion is the same for me though, in that he is still in a casino environment.

so? he's not breaking any laws, nor would that be a violation of the nfl's rules, nor would that be a violation of his treatment plan unless he was consuming alcohol or using drugs...

when you have a problem, such as addiction, you shouldn't surround yourself with temptations...

but technically, yeah, I guess he isn't doing any wrong.
Hmmm

You have no idea where he is at or what his treatment is. None of this information has been released so you have no earthly idea of where he is and what the situation is....

See what I did there
