Ufta! Billy Joel......
Quote:Now wait just a minute here. Did you actually get the sarcasm about the kitten??

I thought you didn't get sarcasm?

When someone tells me it is a joke, I believe it. I just can't figure out when a person is joking.
Quote:Yes...it stands for beach! Lol

Whatever happened to jagsbch? Speaking of people that take a beating, that guy was routinely clobbered. He was kind of like a TMD before there was a TMD.
In my head I was hearing.....

It's just a fan-ta-seee, whoa ooo o oooo, it's not the real thing.....or something like that. by BILLY JOEL.

EESH, WHY IS EVERYONE SO MEAN TO ME????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your mind went to an odd place, there.
Quote:I just made corrections to your post. Are you mad?

But on a lighter note, I never would have guessed "bch" is short for beach.
no I'm not mad...It doesn't bother me to have my grammar errors corrected...It does bother me however when someone tells me they won't take my comments serious because of grammar errors...I don't tend to write on an internet message board as if I am typing a business proposa, business letter, report, or some kind of college paper...I did all that while getting my Masters degree and I do all that enough at work with my reports and stuff on a daily basis...This message board is for fun, and I'm not about to make it less fun by making sure every rule of grammar is folllowed....
Still think the OP is the #1 Troll on this board. Gotta be.

Quote:Bingo. That happens all the time here because people don't understand my thoughts and feelings about jokes, sarcasm, etc. The opposite happens too: I try to be nice but for some reason people think I am not. It is a symptom of Asperger's. I was permanently banned from a pet loss support chat room for saying what moderators deemed inappropriate comments and all I was trying to do was help people who recently lost their cats and dogs.
some don't understand that a person with AS does not recognize sarcasm as other people do, and some jokes are also lost on people with AS as well because your brain doesn't really understand sarcasm and most "talk" text and conversations are all taken at face value...People with AS read things and they understand what they read and take it as they read it at face value and the same goes for what they hear...So when scarcasm is thrown at them, they don't catch it, all they understand is what the words say and mean without any premise behind them...
Quote:Now wait just a minute here. Did you actually get the sarcasm about the kitten??

I thought you didn't get sarcasm?
People with AS take everything at face value...They read word for word and understand what the words say and that's what they get out of it...whatever is said or read, is taken literally and processed by the brain as such

And what are people who are the opposite called? Those who don't take everything they read so literally? Or those who take everything they read with skepticism? Or those who take everything they read as a joke?

What is the medical term for them?

Fools? :-)

no clue...but that's what people with AS do...AS is actually a form of autism...she can't help how her brain interprets things...it's not like she can make a decision and say I want to be able to recognize sarcasm and find some way to do it...It's just the way her brain works and will always work

I think people can learn behaviors.  For example, someone who tends to be socially insensitive can learn to say the appropriate things in conversation to fit in better.  AS is a condition but shouldn't be used as a crutch in my opinion.
You have learned many things throughout your life; the English language, message boards, internet, bus schedules, et. al. then why is it you can not learn to disregard comments from anonymous posters?

That happened in the Message Board Survivor thread. I thought the OP meant, "How long have you been a board member?" and the word "survivor" had something to do with that.

Irony can be hard to recognize too. When Mom said it is ironic that the vet who recommended someone for my cat moved from Gainesville to Columbus (she is a Gator), I thought, "What is ironic about that?"

That is true, but I can't learn a certain behavior is bad without trying it first. For example, nobody could have prepared me for the time when I turned down a suggestion, thinking it was "take it or leave it" because I know that is what the word means. I had to make that mistake first, then later be told it was a soft way to tell me what to do in case it ever happens again.

That is like asking a man born blind why he can't learn what colors are.

Sarcasm?
Quote:Sarcasm?

You unwittingly arrived at the heart of the matter. Sarcasm is not recognized.
