Who is detained right now?
One has to at least be curious as to the nature of travel for some that are here in the US based on asylum and go back to these same areas to visit. Why is it ok for a legal permanent resident to also go and come back from these areas that others are claiming is too dangerous to live? With or without this newer immigration EO, that seem like flags to me.

Agreed, and it shouldn't be. Green card holders should also be extensively vetted when returning from these nations. I also wouldn't object to citizens who visit these specific nations who
aren't sponsored by a business to get extensive vetting when returning.

They are most likely already put on some sort of watchlist by FBI or CIA, anyway. At least I believe the San Bernadino husband was.

I'm sure, I struggle with the idea that the government has a right to know where you as a citizen are traveling and why.

Customs already flags you before and upon entry. If you aren't tied to official government travel, expect the strong possibility of legal harassment.

They use your login credentials, legally. They don't even need probable cause. If you refuse they will confiscate and there is a strong possibility you aren't getting back. It's crazy.

They can't legally compel anyone to provide passwords (yet), though I do suppose they could confiscate your electronic device.

I agree with this exec. order...
but it's already a slippery slope before you tell American citizens "hey if you travel, expect Hell to get back in"
However... to the point you are making, I think, why would Joe America want to go travel to Iraq, Syria, or Yemen.......
if you want to be around all that right now, it certainly would raise some questions.
Now a lot of American citizens are Muslim and many want to travel back home to visit family or the Mecca or whatever... so this is why we couldn't do that. Then essentially you are ACTUALLY targeting Muslims, rather than the radical countries we've targeted now.

You driving down the street? They can see you.
Your information is no longer safe... unless you keep it off the phone, cpu, etc.
They'll tell you you can block this or do that...take out your battery, turn off GPS....
but once it's electronic it is never safe and never gone.

By the very nature of the DHS and border security, people from every category have been detained on a daily basis. This is not new. And guess what, people have been barred from entry on a permanent and temporary basis as well and once again, just about daily. In fact, in FY2016 over 800,000 were inadmissible or deported. Actual border arrest were over 400,000. Pretty sure there was a lot of detainment going on!
