Quote:Well you had to have some idea of what he did with Utah before being hired by florida.
Trav, in all seriousness
, is this just your personal belief or was there something on twitter that this might not be coming together.
Gut feeling. Haven't been on twitter all day.

I feel the same way. Not sure of that is who Foley wants.
Quote:Ok. Well he wasn't exactly a secret when winning with utah. That was a pretty big story that year so just surprised you had no idea who he was.
Oregon and TCU are in the top four...couldn't tell you boo about those teams either.

I get the feeling this was Foley's top guy.
Quote:they beat BC by the same amount FSU did....
+1
Quote:Agree with this. Then again, is there a candidate like Urban available?
If you want to look at someone who has a credible track record of turning programs around, I would look at Jim Mora Jr. or Gundy.
Quote:Youre that thick to look at his record there? Like others on here. No surprise.
4-8, 8-6, 10-2. This after taking over a program with records of 3-9, 3-9, 3-9 the previous three seasons. Pretty proven coach and head coach, and resume. Proven in the SEC. Knows the conference.
You are beating that turnaround bush pretty hard already.
Again, I will acknowledge his progress he made turning around CSU, but he didnt take them to a BCS or undefeated season. Something Meyer did while at Utah.

So because he didn't take the team to a BCS bowl or go undefeated he won't be a good coach at UF?
McElwain turned around a program that was terrible at his arrival. Before that he won two rings calling the offensive plays. Pretty dang proven no matter how you try and spin it.
I called Foley and committed to contribute the following:
McElwain = $12
Gundy = $14
Rich Rod = $25
Harbaugh = $50
Saban = $100
Gus Bradley = $200 -- take him off our hands. j/k
Seems as if the CSU admin is sticking to the buyout. That puts CSU in a sticky situation too. I would have to think McElwain has let it be known that he wants to be the next HC at Florida. If UF decides to pass based on the buyout it makes for a bit of an awkward situation for the parties at CSU involved (CSU, McElwain, players, staff).
I think a deal will get reached, perhaps a buyout reached between the $3 and $7.5 million range.
I am also hearing that Foley doesn't want to play CSU in Denver. Doesn't want to play out west. I am not sure why, if true that would be the case if it would help reduce that buyout.
I don't blame CSU. There's a reason a buyout in written into a contract so why not stick to your guns. Also, CSU may need to buy out another coach so they'll need all the $$ they can get in search of their own replacement coach.
Kudos to CSU for making it a $7.5m buyout. I think the RichRod buyout years ago at WVU was only $4m. Teams are getting smarter as these coaches only stay for a few years.

I can't blame em either a bit.
Blame anybody, blame McElwain's agent.

Mcelwain's agent is a horrible horrible business person. You just negotiated a contract for the offensive coordinator for Bama and put in a $7.5 million dollar buy out?!

That buyout clause got added in the contract extension that mcelwain signed in august too.
I also don't blame CSU for wanting the whole thing but at this point, if mcelwain gets passed on by Florida because of all this, there are going to be a whole lot of sour grapes next season and that's not going to help CSU win any games.

Which is why I think a deal may get done now

Ahhh, didnt know that. Good job by CSU, bad job Mcelwain's agent. Thats a mammoth sized buy out.

It seems that the Gators under Foley are always reluctant to play outside the State. Seems to be a long standing policy - especially if they won't be making a ton of money doing so (i.e., the possibility of playing in Dallas).
I know they want to retain as much advantage as possible but they seem a little insecure regarding their travel policy.

Terrible job. He's three years in and you wanna add a buyout clause for 7.5mil at a college program outside the power 5? With no way of getting out of it? Jeeze.
Some of these smaller schools need this stuff because good coaches will come and go within one year. See Freeze and Gus Malzahn.
