Quote:Some of these smaller schools need this stuff because good coaches will come and go within one year. See Freeze and Gus Malzahn.

Maybe Blake Anderson is available....
Quote:Oregon and TCU are in the top four...couldn't tell you boo about those teams either.

Gotcha. I just thought you were into college football so just a little surprised you wouldn't know or read about a your new coaches history.
Quote:I don't blame CSU.  There's a reason a buyout in written into a contract so why not stick to your guns.
They have every right to stick to their guns but IMO it would be smart to negotiate when the coach wants to move on.

Getting 4 or 5 million now when you're likely going to lose him in 3 years anyways is a smart move IMO. Is a mountain west championship really worth that risk? But who knows what amount FL is willing to pay anyways.

I love college football, but my knowledge pretty much stays with my conference and the others in the area that we play.
Being reported that it is a done deal and Mcelwain is the new Florida head coach.

Come on bunnie, you gotta look past that SEC horizon.

Just saw it as well.  You got your coach, now time to move up on the recruiting rankings (currently #71).  FSU #2 just in case you gator fans were wondering.

My Coach is George O'leary.  Where are we ranked?
Quote:Terrible job. He's three years in and you wanna add a buyout clause for 7.5mil at a college program outside the power 5? With no way of getting out of it? Jeeze.

Are you implying the buyout was put in by the agent?

The school was smart to add it, they have to protect itself.

And what was the agent to say? No, my client doesn't really want to be a head coach (even though he has no other offers). No thanks.

It appears to be a moot point. CSU knows schools like UF have very deep pockets (public and private). They knew what they were doing. It will be interesting to see the final numbers.

No, I really don't! Tongue I can enjoy the game, the atmosphere and rooting for the team of the school I attended without ever learning about a bunch of other schools that I have no interest in.

The buyout was included in his second contract with the school

#75 just 4 spots behind florida.

It was a contract extension done in august. The coach didn't have to sign it. In fact, if he didn't, he still would have got the job at Florida. So he wouldn't have been out of a job or offers.

I don't think you understand the situation. But the reason it falls on the agent is that having that clause in there was not beneficial to his client, Jim mcelwain.
Denver Post reporting that UF will pay $5mm now and $2mm at a later date with CSU coming to Gainesville for a game.

Pretty much the entire amount. That's a lot of money.
Quote:It seems that the Gators under Foley are always reluctant to play outside the State. Seems to be a long standing policy - especially if they won't be making a ton of money doing so (i.e., the possibility of playing in Dallas).

I know they want to retain as much advantage as possible but they seem a little insecure regarding their travel policy.

The best case would be to play a home and home with a 3rd matchup at a neutral site.

Now I'm hearing new numbers, but basically the same amount.

Buyout....$3M over 6 yrs from UF; $2M over time from McElwain, guarantee of $2M for game in Gville

Interesting that McElwain decided to chip in.

Guess Foley wasn't going to let that stop him from getting his guy.

I know. My point was that you can't blame the agent, as some on here were trying to do.

Agree to the buy out or you don't get the job.

Lo and behold - CSU gets $7 mil for losing their coach. Pretty smart on CSU's part.
Quote:Guess Foley wasn't going to let that stop him from getting his guy.

Pay Muschamp off, pay CSU off, pay McElwain a very large salary - no problem.

Hey, a few calls to a couple of Bull Gators, a wire transfer or two - done deal.

Money doesn't talk, it swears.

As long as we don't have to listen to any such silliness as "building character" "student-athlete" or "preparing young men for the future".
