Quote:Admittedly I have yet to read the article, so apologies in advance if it was covered here, but why would a RT necessarily have to be undrafted if you spend a top 5 pick on a LT?

just used that as our example because we've neglected that position with "good enough" Pasztor....

he's not good enough.

I'd be way more comfortable with a LT that was 3rd round pick as long as the RT is also a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Having the LT be the 2nd overall pick and then line him up with an undrafted guy on the other side is pointless IMO.

Teams can just move their best pass rusher to the right side and we are exposed yet again.

So then you would theoretically be happy with a top 5 LT and say a 3rd round RT?

If we hit on the players, I'd be thrilled with it.
Quote:I'm talking philosphy in general...
Well no need to exaggerate to make a point, I would've preferred Ansah too. But on the other hand, hard to argue that Joeckel was the best player on most teams' boards.
Quote:Joeckel has been bad all year. I've been on record since day one saying I disagreed with the Monroe trade and Joeckel selection. I still do.

Glad you're on record. Where do they keep these records, just incase tens of thousands would like to validate your point.

In concept - sure, but I still wouldn't like that.

a top 5 pick is too valuable.  You could trade back even without "a king's ransom" in return and get a few 2nd and 3rd rounders and still accomplish the same goal.

The whole "protect the QBs blindside" is an outdated way of looking at things.

The NFL will come around I believe and will not keep drafting these guys that high.
Joeckel was drafted too high because of the attention Manzeil got.

It's a bust... write it down.

I doubt it, it's hard to find guys that are 6'6' 300 lbs with quick feet. Those guys are always going to be coveted very highly as long as there's athletic pass rushers coming after your franchise QB.

I can't argue that at this point it looks as he was overdrafted but to say is was because of Manziel? Why was Fisher graded so high then?

The article you cited even concedes that LT is a very important position.

I would say the article argues not that LT is overvalued, but that RT is often undervalued.

Ever get a grade you didn't deserve?

Joe Staley?

What does Manziel have to do with Joeckel being drafted so high? Manziel himself was barely a first round pick.

Joeckel was graded high because he has the H/W/S to be a very good LT, he just hasn't put it together yet, hopefully he will.
I personally don't think Joeckel will ever live up to his draft pick, I can't see it happening.. I do however, think he's be a decent OT in this league.. But just decent..

@JohnOehser: Jaguars HC Gus Bradley said just three of seven sacks Sunday were really on offensive line. Two were on LT Luke Joeckel.

@JohnOehser: Jaguars HC Gus Bradley said Luke Joeckel's learning curve similar to a lot of young players on the team.

@ryanohalloran: i had 2 on Joeckel, 2 on Denard, 2 unblocked, 1 on Bowanko.

That is troubling.
I know Pierre Paul abused him pretty much all game with the speed rush.

Against miami he was mauled by Oliver and the bullrush.

There was also some ugly block misses on the outside pulling and on screens this past game as well. He seems to get lost in space.

Has he really had any signature moments or games where he clearly was in control of his man or gotten a big pancake block in the run game?

To be fair, JPP abuses a lot of OT's..

actually prior to yesterday, JPP only had 3.5 sacks all year

I was going to mention this.  He's be very inconsistent the past few years.
Luke "The JOKE" Joeckle needs to hit the weights hard this offseason.
