Quote:No, they really aren't. You're just connecting dots that aren't actually tied together because of your dislike of Dave Caldwell.

But I'd say those dots are pretty easy to follow. TC ain't the powerless "figure head" kind of guy, not by a long shot, and this is great news for Jags fans.
Quote:You may love Caldwell, but the fact of the matter is, the organization doesn't make this move if they 100% trust Caldwell.

I think it has more to do with the value and the level Coughlin is on. With his credentials and his history with building this franchise from the ground up, having Coughlin aboard is a no brainer.

Absolutely true.

They wanted more input from an experienced source - which is understandable when you botch a coaching hire and possibly miss on a first round QB.

I like that Coughlin is on board, but it's silly to make a bunch of assumptions regarding Caldwell's role.

( Not to mention the complete absurdity of the thread title. LOL.)
RIP salary cap!

Connecting dots is fun.

I have friends that go on and on for hours about aliens, pyramids, illuminati and chem-trails being connectable dots - but I think that's absurd also.

Coughlin isn't dumb.

I bet he knows how he messed up last time and learns from it. Dave makes really good contracts so I wouldn't be shocked if he makes the contracts for the players Coughlin chooses.

Its already being talked about that he has the final say. Hicken just said he has final say.
Quote:Congratulations Tom Coughlin, he is now the eyes and ears of the front office. Anything Caldwell does has to get passed by the board (Coughlin). As of right now, Tom Coughlin is the new Jaguars GM. Not sure exactly how drafting and FA acquisitions will go, but be sure, any move Caldwell makes has to be okayed by Tom Coughlin.

But dave is still the GM....

I said it in jest but hopefully the duo can work hand in hand.

Yes he is, he just has the board(Tom Coughlin) to get things passed by.
Quote:Read above. I love you man, I respect you, just saying, this was a hire to get things turned around. Caldwell is still the GM, I'm not arguing that, he just has a boss now, thats all.
Love and respect, fellow fan.

I just found the thread title reeking of bitterness. It's all good. We don't have to agree on Caldwell.

No, no bitterness. I was just stating an opinion/kinda fact. Again, if Caldwell wasnt liked, he would be fired. This is just a move to get things speed up more quickly. Khan most likely wants another pair of eyes. He needs some wins, he wants some like Coughlin there to make sure things are working properly.

The title of the thread not "kinda' fact"  it's actually a direct falsehood.

The red bit up there - that's an opinion I agree with.

Quote:Yes I do. Your not living in reality. Tom Coughlin is THE guy. You dont hire that, nor would he accept a job without control. Caldwell will have a boss now, that he directly responds too and has to get everything approved.

I can tell from this that you're naive in the way organizations work.

Its already been proven as fact that Coughlin has the final say. Hicken has already tweeted it out. The GM and Coach will speak directly to the VP of Operations. Tom Coughlin now runs the Jaguars personnel department.

If they give Coughlin the check book we're [BLEEP].
Quote:If they give Coughlin the check book we're [BAD WORD REMOVED].
well, then you might be disappointed going forward.

He built a roster that took us to the playoffs 4 straight times including 2 afc championship games.  i will take it
Quote:Tom has the final say on draft picks and free agency signings. Caldwell has been demoted basically.
I read the article and nowhere does it say anything like that
Quote:RIP salary cap!
Coughlin doesnt do the salary cap that other guy does
