That's good! Glad to hear you had fun...even for a FSU fan! Tongue
Hey folks....This came across my Facebook timeline. Apparently The Jags organization sent a letter to a section of fans asking them to sit because of several complaints. Someone by the name of "Alfie" reported it to Bleacher Report. I have no idea who "Alfie" is, whether he's a fan, reporter, etc. Anyways, the article, plus all the comments below the article once again show all the ripping this city endures from the national media, plus all the ignorant NFL fans around the country. I was going to post a comment, but after hundreds of times trying to defend this franchise and fanbase I decided why bother. Who is "Alfie", btw? Here's the link to the Bleacher Report article. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/22084...n-at-games
I assume that is the same Alfie who used to post on this board for years and just a fan, not an unbiased reporter.

Of course it is OK to stand up when we score, get a turnover, etc. The complaint is people are standing all the time and blocking the views of those who sit.

Next weeks letter will be begging fans to show up.

They are behind the curve this season.

I used to sit in section 434. It's a really good, rowdy section. But of course out of all the people in the section there were 3 individuals who refused to sit down through the entire game and they just so happened to sit right in front of me. Now this was back before we had the new video boards that Im pretty sure people on the other side of the St. Johns river can see more clearly than if they were sitting in front of their TV in their living room. No, we still had the old crappy video boards that were barely more than an afterthought. So when they stood up, my view was completely blocked of the game. The people in the row behind me could still see the game (presumably) so my only two options were to A. Stand up and block THEIR view of the game so I could see or B. Try to watch the video boards to see what was happening. We had asked them to sit down and they would.. for about a play or two. Then they were back up on a 1st and 20 play that there really was no need to be standing to see. I'm not the type to get on my phone and text a complaint to the security team at the stadium. I mean, we're all trying to have fun and we were all season ticket holders who would have to see each other at every home game that year. So I completely understand what the Jags are doing. There's nothing wrong with standing up on 3rd downs for the defense, or on big plays where we score a TD or a long completion, or even when we get a sack or INT... that's to be expected. Everyone stands up for those moments. But to stand and block the view of the person behind you for a routine play is a bit ridiculous. The new video boards are nice, very nice. But I don't pay $400 a pop for season tickets to go to the stadium and watch the video boards because I can't see the field due to the boneheads in front of me feeling the need to stand for the entire game. The Jags aren't trying to sap the fun out or the experience of being at the game, they're simply trying to ensure that every fan who pays good money to go to the game actually gets the chance to see it. You don't want to stand up for big plays in the game? Fine, but you're going to miss it. That's to be expected.

I'm sorry but if you don't want to stand then you shouldn't be at a football game. The Jags look foolish telling people to sit when the media already believes we can't sell tickets. Now people think we can't sell tickets and when we do they can't even stand up.

I think you guys are blowing this out of proportion. They're not saying you can't stand AT ALL. They're simply saying don't stand for the entire game. I can't think of any other NFL stadium where they stand for the entire game. When the offense has the ball and it's 1st and 10, do you really need to stand?

My dad would stand the whole game if he could. He stands at home during away games too. Some people prefer to stand. Go to CenturyLink and tell someone to sit down there and see what happens.

You do realize they aren't saying that you can't stand at all, right? They just are asking people to be polite and not stand up the WHOLE time.

And please don't give me "it's football" crap...you're watching the game, not playing in it.

I imagine the same thing would happen there that happens here. There's a reason why NFL stadiums have seats instead of just concrete benches like college stadiums. It's general admission there, you pay for a spot somewhere on the row and you cram in there with a bunch of college students and you scream your head off for the entire game. The NFL isn't college, the atmosphere is totally different.

Yes it is...and unless you're in the game, it's entertainment.
Except the only problem with this is that, it's a FOOTBALL GAME! We are NOT attending the opera nor the local movie theatre. The folks who stand are paying good money to attend the FOOTBALL game and should be allowed to stand on their heads if that's how they choose to watch the game. This same rationale goes for concerts and many other similar GROUP experienced, socialized activities. If you are attending any sort of entertainment activity, which has a fan-base, and thus you identify and attend as one, then enjoy the experience in whatever manner makes you comfortable. People cheer for all sorts of reasons. Being allowed to stand, cheer, and be excited only during selective plays, of which ARE DEEMED APPROPRIATE NOT BY THE FAN HIMSELF, restricts people from self-expression; dictating their actions and thus, stripping away one's God given right to decide for themselves what qualifies as entertainment, in order to elicit a standing, cheering response.

Steeler fans have towels waving in everyone's faces and no one cares. Everyone in Green Bay has a big block of cheese on their head and everyone sitting behind them lives.

I mean, what's next?

"Hey, buddy. My kid sitting behind you can't see. I know you're sitting down so please get shorter."

If you go to a concert it's general admission. That gives you access to a space where you stand and dance and scream your head off. Unless you go to a concert with seats. Then if you stand and scream your head off during a time when most everybody else in the place is sitting because it's not warranted, you're asked to sit down or leave. No matter what way you slice it, in an NFL stadium, someone's right to either stand or sit is going to be violated. Since the NFL decided to cater to the fans who prefer to sit for parts of the game by putting chairs and wifi and cup holders in stadiums, they are going to side with the fans who DON'T want to stand for 3 hours straight to watch a football game.
