"Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it"

This situation seems awfully familiar:

Quote:Absolutely. But you don't want your QB to be taking that sort of punishment on a daily basis. I also don't believe that Bortles would immediately come in and play a perfect game without causing any sacks himself, so we're realistically looking at more than five sacks.

Pocket Presence: either you have it or you don't. Bortles does, Henne does not.
Quote:I believe we'd see some improvement with Bortles, but that improvement would not be universal.

Moxie or not, the OL has some major deficiencies. Moxie or not, the receivers are having difficulty getting open. Moxie or not, Gerhart isn't getting the job done.

The first thing I would do is bench Toby Gerhart. I don't know if he's fighting thru an injury, or if its the fundmental run blocking or schemes failing but clearly its not obtaining the expected run yardage and repeating the same actions over and over again expecting a different result is usually defined as insanity! I would give the young rookie 7th round draft pick Storm Johnson a chance to take the load with runs to the outside and then use Toddman up the middle. If Toby isnt injured, hopefully being benched in week 3 will lite a fire under him.

The 2nd thing I would do is address the DB, primarily Saftey position. They need to review the film and figure out why coverages arent getting blown, and make the necessary changes prior to week 3's game. They need to focus practice on fundementals of tackling.

The 3rd thing I would do is practice screen passes with Chad Henne on blitzs (unless you do us a favor and start Bortles), and short slant or hook passes to avoid having another 10 sack game this week.

The 4th thing I would do is bench Brown, those dropped passes really annoyed me.

The 5th thing I would do which probably I shouldve had higher is figure out what to do at TE, maybe trade or sign a player if Clay Harbor cant step up in case Lewis is out this week...

An offensive line: either you have it or you don't. Henne does not. Bortles will not.
Consider this! Bortles played with our second and third string o-line! Ours! And he lived to tell about it.

Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck have survived behind bad offensive lines.
HAHA.. did someone from the Jags message board give him some of this material? Awesome..

Bortles and Gabbert don't compare. Gabbert was just a bad QB. Hopefully Bortles is a good QB, which we won't know until he's playing.
Quote:Apparently you can at some point, given all the complaints about the Hurns injury. Wink

The Hurns injury is different in that if you are blown away with not enough time to come back in the game its a lot like having a giant lead in a game with not enough time for the opposing team to come back, you put in backups at that point to get experience plus the throw wasnt even for enough yards to get the first down on 4th... which a lot of that would be Chad Henne to blame & Fisch for the play call...
Quote:It's sill a much more positive sign for Bortles than in the past. After the Eagles game I'm pretty sure he immediately said we're sticking with Chad. I think this is the time to make the change and he knows it without blatantly saying it yet. Of course he has to watch the film. But he knows as well as we do how poorly Henne performed.

Prior to the season starting in a thread where we were guessing when Bortles would start I figured around the 3week or after that game. I'm hoping my guess was right as I figure this season is already shot (not enough talent at key roles) so why not let the rookie learn this year so that the team may be a playoff contender next year (if we get a good draft)

I agree in that Blaine Gabbert folds under pressure whereas Bortles doesnt and I dont think a year of being blitzed will change that. One thing Ive noticed is that Rookie QBs get blitzed regardless by the opposing team what better way to learn how to deal with the blitz then on this team right now...
So far what I said weeks ago is turning out to be true.

0-2 and the "Henne is our guy" stuff has already turned into "we'll have to look at film"

I said after Henne "leads" us to an 0-3 or 0-4 start, Bortles would start. Many said "no he'll start when he's ready"

I suppose he'll magically be ready soon eh? LOL

Just start the kid and admit you made a mistake handing the keys to the Henne. I don't guarantee more wins... but I guarantee we'll have one less position to complain about.

The situation is a mirror image of what took place in 2011. Its very comparable.

in the fetal position in the pocket the way Blaine Gabbert did.

best line of the day....

I felt Chad was in the fetal position yesterday too..
Remember that bad colts team with that trash Oline before Luck got there. O wait that line is still trash. Put Luck on the bench and there 2-14 again. If you don't have a QB you don't have nothing. But Bortles in.

Gabbert and Bortles are nothing alike. Fans need to chill with that. Either you have it or you don't. Blake has it.

You're forgetting one big fact. Gabbert was a horrible QB. Blake has looked like nothing other than a good QB since he's been in a Jaguar uniform. There is a difference. To argue otherwise is to tote the front office line of "veteran presence", efficiency, and "getting into and out of plays" with Chad Jokke as QB.

It's ok to not agree with the coaches. You can still be a fan of the team and not like what they're doing.

You know this based off of a few preseason games? Gabbert is the all time preseason MVP.

That is such BS

No, not at all.
